I think there are 2 factors in why Elvis doesn't get the recognition in America like he should. One was the major F'up he did in 1979 with the Bonnie Brammlett and Steven Stills argument on tour when he refered to Ray Charles and James Brown as Ni##ers but not mean spirited, just to enrage his agitators and when Brammlett a has been, went to the press with it, and when he decided to write more music that suited himself as an artist instead ofradio friendly music. Regardless he still triumphs.
At the time, inanity was king of radio (now, it still is, arguably more so). Once in a while, a Police song or an Elvis Costello song would come on the radio, apparently by mistake, and your ears would stand up and pay attention. 'Wow! This is slightly different!' exclaimed your eardums. 'Let's tune in!'
Sting cannot sing. FACT.

That is what is so great. And it goes a long way.

Elvis played a Sting Tribute so I think you got some facts mixed up, a closed mouth bares no foot.

he said was repelled by Sting's evolution...
Me too by the way...
his farwell album was clearly "ten summoner's tales"-
no interferences anymore with what is going on in the world ,
just lay back and enjoy the gathered wealth and performing with the 'back street boys' (!!!)
-for all goodness sakes how could he ?!?!?!?!

he was an idol once standing up
for the good cause and in a sophisticated way!-
What has happened to THAT guy....

Yet another nail in the coffin of my Sting/ Police worship! Elvis, on the other hand, you are the MAN!

How great is that?
Especially since Elvis used to eviscerate Sting in interviews for using a "fake Jamaican accent."
I always thought they were working in the same genre: blue-eyed soul. Probably too alike not to be competitive.
