Of course, there are many great singer-songwriters. It would be a small world if there wasn't. I didn't know I was comparing him to anybody. I was just giving him a compliment .... that's all. I didn't know I stuck my nose up at the radio. Could you explain what I wrote to give you that idea?
This is good stuff, thank you kitschgirl, great video of Leonard. 74 years old now, and truly a legend. What a great memory from the IOW festival. This is the track to play, when the river has been run, and we depart to the great gig in the sky.
are we free? what would it mean? I say that we are...for those that say we are not, have expressed 'their' beliefs...freely...yet again there can be no scientific proof that we are not free, for if there were, it was determined to begin with, and hence is not can not be tested in any scientific way...we all but birds...
His performance won't sound good to many & today's world won't understand but the man is amazing & brilliant. Before he started singing he quoted "It's a large nation but it's still weak, still very weak. It needs to get a lot stronger before it can claim a right to land." That was 1970, doesn't matter what nation, the meaning was deep. He's a very deep thinker, he thinks each word he says or sings. His bio is worth reading. “Hallelujah” is his.
There are many many great singer-songwriters that you probably don't know about, carrying on the tradition.
Dan Mangan, Jenn Grant, Bonny Prince Billy, Phospherescent, Patrick Watson, Phospherescent, Timbre Timber... so, so many more. It's easy to stick your nose up at the radio, but you're pretty damn wrong.
What an amazing performance, particularly in light of the circumstances under which he came to the stage at the Isle of Wight, after the 600,000 people there had pretty much rioted and set stuff on fire.

I think Adam Sandler should play Leonard, if there is ever a movie about him!
