  • 1973 and Freeman was looking old even back then..

  • right!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the reason everyone only knows him as being old is because he was only a stage actor until he was 40

  • He looks like he was 69 years old

  • Has Morgan Freeman ever been young?

  • @mbatch92 nobody knows.....everyone who saw him young is long gone...if he ever was young

  • These guys are installing free cable for me

  • I feel like I just watched something racist...can't quite put my finger on what though...

  • @huhhhhhhhhhhhh09 That's just your 'liberal white guilt' acting up. Just watch a Tyler Perry marathon on BET and make a small donation to the NAACP and that annoying little feeling should go away.

  • @CambridgeHeights Okay, will do, thanks bro.

  • They cut out the part where his partner here breaks out of prison and crawls through a river of Listerine and came out smelling like shit on the other side. or somethin like that.

  • @j00jy LMAO, kudos, sir.

  • It's reverse psychology!! :O either that or the voice of God trick....

  • Hell ide buy it.

  • Ever since I was a little boy, people have enjoyed the sound of my voice. And I figured you either get busy talkin or you get busy dyin'. The work is really quite easy. Why even right now I'm just sitting in a chair, sipping some tea and reading from a script. The wall is covered in something that resembles egg crates except they're soft and spongy, like a twinkie...like a twinkie.

  • Why does he always look old?

  • God - I mean, Morgan Freeman - wants me to use Listerine...?

  • well at least it honest..

  • hmm something about morgan freemans voice is just inspiringg

  • Crappy marketing! This doesn't make any sense. He randomly has a bottle of listerine while on a telephone pole?

  • Wow, Marketing has come a long way. lol

  • MORGAN FREEMAN WAS AT MY SCHOOL TODAY FILMING A DOLPHINS TALE HIS LATEST MOVIE I GOT PICTURES WITH ME AND HIM WOOT.

  • BEST Commercial line EVER, LOL

  • Buckleys cough syrup commercials are even better.

  • It's got the taste people hate twice a day.

    Really???

  • Look how high they're above the ground, a hand just gives them the listerine xD

  • "Well lookee here" Should be written above the ingredients to everything.

  • @screamwriter1 Hahahahahaha! Totally agree!

  • Comment removed

  • use the listerine mr.Simms!

  • try Listerine, you jive talking turkey!

  • "I wish I could tell you that Listerine fought the good fight, and the plaque let him be. I wish I could tell you that - but hygiene is no fairy-tale world."

    -The Dental Redemption

  • @RowanLives LOL i quote that all the time!! well the original lines. your comment was the shit!

  • if Listerine is good enough for Joe Clark (free mr. Clark!! free mr. Clark!!), then by golly it's good enough for me..

  • @donthogtheremote Listerine is how he cleaned up that school lol

  • If God uses Listerine then I better go get some!

  • Yeah well, look what Listerine did to Morgan Freeman's teeth.

  • It would be wonderful if Mr. Freeman would go behind the camera again to direct some more films?

  • Reminds me of that Sean Connery frozen yogurt commercial: It takes a lot of inbuilt dignity not to look like a dumbass

  • god.... is telling me to brush rinse flase....

  • Oh shit...an honest commercial lol.

  • Morgan could hang lace curtains and still be cool while doing it.

  • LMAO! I love this commericial! Honestly and it kicks butt, I am going to buy some today!

  • Reminds me of buckleys..

  • the electric company!!!!!!! arc arc arc.

  • LMAO! Wow, if you don't hate the taste then don't use it, lol. Excellent ad campaign by the way Listerine.

  • He looks like a cross between Richard Pryor and Jimi Hendrix.. :D

  • Lookie here! Has Cosby seen this yet?

  • they should do commercials like this more often lol

  • "The taste people hate - Twice a day."

  • LOL This is like one of the adverts in the Dudley Moore film Crazy People!

  • i dont get it. LOL. but cool commercial. i love morgan freeman. he's coolness.

  • "well looka here"

  • The taste people hate, TWICE A DAY! Lol.... Is it me or does Morgan Freeman look like Jimi Hendrix in this commercial?.. Jus' sayin'

  • There's so much wrong with this commercial: The strange trombone-sounding noise held out for about ten seconds at the beginning, Morgan Freeman's partner appearing to be under the influence of narcotics, the product priding itself on how bad it tastes, and the entire concept behind two electricians talking about mouthwash while working on an electrical pole. Due to these and many other factors, I consider this to be the most effective commercial ever made.

  • @yesistasty That "trombone sound" at the beginning sounds like a 60 cycle hum from an overmodulated video signal, a common problem in early broadcasting.

  • @yesistasty // greatest. comment. ever //

  • @yesistasty But.... Morgan Freeman is the greatest God since George Burns so that MUST count for something? Besides, I've talked about stranger things while on an electric pole. Fishing with cattle prods. Nuff said.

  • @HimataGaan why were you on an electric pole talking about fishing with cattle prods?

  • @yesistasty of course it was the most effective comercial ever made morgan freeman is in it

  • watch :

Listerine Song New Spot 2009 (original long version song)

  • now, what product ad uses a similar campaign today?..... yes, thats right. Buckley's. u would think there might be some copyright infringement there. and here i thought Buckley's was the first to downtalk their product as a selling point

  • The taste people hate.

    GREAT selling point.

  • Judd Hirsch also appeared in one of these Listerine ads as a "motor-mouth" disc jockey; and, like Morgan Freeman, he was "paying the bills" acting in commercials before establishing himself as a "mainstream actor". Yes, the announcer at the end is veteran radio/TV voice-over Peter Thomas (his most recent credit was an ESPN promo) .

  • I guess Morgan Freeman still needed more money, since he was two years into doing "The Electric Company" and would be on for another four!

  • Years ago on Leno, Morgan was a guest and they showed him this commercial ( albeit a grainy , black and white kinoscope version)...he had forgotten he had done this spot. At first he denied it but then relented.

  • HE IS GOD,NOW IM SURE

  • The taste people hate

    TWICE a day.

Hmmm, what sounds wrong about this?

I can just see the little kids going "MOMMA LETS BUY IT! THE MAN ON THE TV SAID IT TASTE NAAAAAAAH-STAY!"

  • Awesome ad!

  • very funny

  • HAHAHA. This type of honest marketing would never work these days.

  • at least its honest. im alot more likly to buy stuff if the fellas selling it are honest. (looks at game developers and there inability to not talk a bunch of lies)

  • @Econ666 ... Buckleys?

  • @Econ666 buckleys cough syrup copied this kinda logo i remember.

  • it is funny how they advertise how bad it taste, it doesn't taste bad to me tho

  • this might of been before it had a minty taste. it would be the original (that u can still get today) its a few pennies cheaper. it tastes like cod liver oil

  • What year was this in?

  • 1973

  • ....I want to go buy some Listerine now...

  • The tag VO is read by veteran Peter Thomas.

  • Wow. I thought this was a spoof at first, but apparently it's for real. Unbelievable.

I remember some commercials from the 80s that would say things like, "This product may cost more than other brands, but it's worth it!" but I never saw anything this blatantly honest about a product's bad points.

  • And that A&E investigative reporter guy is the announcer at the end!

  • ... and as I'm just finding out, he shouts at the beginning! You NEVER hear this guy shout!

  • Do you see them in real life too?

9 out of 10 times you see cool cars, i bet you dont see them in it.

  • OMG!! That's so awesome!! Thank God he's going to be alright from his car wreck!

  • wow freeman still looks old even 30 years ago.Well nobody cares how he looks just how he talks. He has the ultimate grandpa voice!

  • That was back in the days when you could use a negative claim in an ad and make it work for you. Only Buckley's Mixture does this now.

  • Damn, even the commercials were racist back then. Dont let me start about the cartoons...

  • how was it racists?

  • Obviously because its a hygene product, and it subliminally implies that black people should use it. Whites often stereotype and cast prejudice towards blacks as unclean subhumans to serve as a racial slur. Why dont you ever see/saw a black person in something classy like a Mercedes commercial for example? In fact, how come 90% of the time you see white people in commercials. Lets not kid ourselves shall we.

  • Not really. This was the 1970s so this was actually getting _more_ black folks on TV, and it has them wanting the same products anyone else would. Even linemen care about their breath, etc.... could have been two white dudes or a white dude and a black dude too. 1973... very good year! :)

  • "Lets not kid ourselves shall we."

Whilst you actually enjoy doing so.

  • Wow... Not since Spam has a product successfully made light of itself. Not that Spam is particularly successful. Or good...

    God, I hate spam.

  • That's a bizarre ad.

  • thats a bizzare youtube username

  • Quit tossin' salad.

  • In this commercial, Morgan Freeman looks like Hendrix.

  • damn he does! lol

  • might be "chronic halitosis"

  • Haha, Morgan Freeman is in everything. EVERYTHING.

  • Usually, he's NARRATING everything. XD

  • Well lookahere.

  • rofl!

  • LOL That man is awesome =). This was cool..rookie card Morgan Freeman vid. nice!

  • listerine it,s got the taste people hate. twice a day.

  • wait...

    i don't get it

he hate it so he use it

but if he'll love listerne he'll never use it

    WTF????

  • If you think about it to much,Morgan Freeman punches you in the face for over thinking it.

  • I miss the days when commercials could admit downsides to their product as long as their pitch made sense.

  • LOL!

  • It's got the taste that you hate?

  • Truly a great man

  • Lookie here! No wonder he denied making that commercial on Jay Leno.

  • Cool. Young Morgan...awesome. If he only knew his fame was comin.....

  • oh god Morgan Freeman is so cute!

  • uh lookie here

  • I miss listerine in a glass bottle. Cant find it anywhere. Not as strong as the plastic bottles in my opinion.

  • very smart! slogon!!!

  • There's some reversed psychology fer ya! What do they do now to advertise orange listerine? "Tastes great so you have to take our word for it that it's working"?

  • lol at "lookahere"

  • Don't you just love how black folks were portrayed on TV and in the movies in the 70's? I was half expecting them to throw out a "Jive turkey" or "Jack" in their dialog.

They should have added one of these at the end:"Say,man, could I try some your Listerine?" Nah,my brotha, you got ta get ya own."

  • Whatchu talkin' bout you Jive Turkey Sucka?? sorry they arent being portrayed in any politically incorrect manner here. here they are just acting within the times. it sounds a little silly but this is to appeal to the modern age. look at commercials now and youll see.

  • XDDDD Man, this is sooo true.. I use listerine just cause it makes my mouth feel like it's melting, feels like it's actually DOING SOMTHING except tasting good. Great commercial!

  • Right on!!

  • It tastes like crap, so go buy it!

  • An honest commercial?

  • gatorsfan4ever, if it was from 1973, I figure it was either during Morgan's 2nd or 3rd season Of TEC

  • Morgan still had that Easy Reader persona, dig the way he reads the bottle.

  • wow! Such honesty. I tried the original when i wasa kid and it made me want to puke. Didnt try it again unitl they started putting mint in. But it still dries out your mouth.

  • i think its so funny how they mention the bad taste, but nowadays they're telling you to buy it because it doesnt ahve the bad taste.

    silly. =]

  • lol, I love the fact that their slogan is "The taste people hate". Well at least they're trying to use it in their favor.

  • was this before during or after freeman did the elctric company

  • "Listerine Commercial " is a featured video on The Video Blog, the best videos on YouTube and More:

    http://thevideosblog.blogspot

  • Its true though isnt it

  • I aknowledged that also! Love it!

  • Hahaha what a tagline!

  • what year was this commercial done?

  • Come to recently find out that alcohol your tasting is an inactive ingredent. So that nasty taste is not what's making it work. I use it though just because it feels like it's making it work. lol

  • Actually alcohol by it's nature is very destructive to mouth bacteria because alcohol destroys anything with a cell wall. The alcohol and the other ingredients work together to give your mouth that "just gargled with witch hazel" feeling.

  • Haha atleast their marketing team embraced the truth.

  • Not nearly as effective as his role of "Easy Reader" (of which he heardly wants to talk about these days). :-)

  • . . . . i remember that one, . . . .

  • anyone know who the other guy is?

  • i'm just a lineman for the county....

  • funny stuff!
