Question, did an oil leak accompany this problem, and did it lessen somewhat if you added oil. People always say "lifter tick" but what I'm hearing is a rattle. Almost like something is loose. I ask, because I'm hearing the same thing on a '97 Suzuki Esteem.
your engine got so hot it warped the heads... thats why it had white smoke head gaskets are gone. sounds like you still drove it after that... plan on a new engine, although by now i am sure you know that
does it have loss of power when you accelerate? sounds to me like a bearing since my engine made the same noise before it blew. sorry to say it but your engines fucked.
Def not a lifter.possible rod or piston splap, def engine has to be inspected. amust. to proper diagnose. and anyway u r looking into a mayor repair. If u are mech experience, check clearances with plastigage and tolarance all the way around the block and internals.
Been there with my N/A. Its a rod bearing. Remove the oil pan and physically check for play where the connecting rod meets the crankshaft journal. Its easy to check but a pain to fix. Sorry.
ur spark plugs cover is blue mines is red! ahaha i noe it might sound nonesense but i just wanted to said that and im happy that u fixed ur car i love 3000gt's its my dirst car and i love it!!!
yea i fixed it i only had about $300 into it because i found another just motor i took the stuff out of and just had it all checked and put that stuff in and now i have other extra parts to sell or keep for later problems
@oxj0kerxo that's not the wisest thing to do. if you already have a spare motor, throw that in. no one can asure you old and used components that you recycled will wear properly after.
Thats not lifters... Spun bearing... see if ur oil pan is dented, if so then its most likley spun bearing. lifter tick has a less "deep" tone to the ticking sound
I know that this noise in my own was the Crank Bearing! the oil pickup tube is too short from the factory, causing poor oiling when the oil is distributed throughout the motor during higher RPMs.....get it fixed NOW before it costs you 3800.00 like it did me 2months ago!!!
it was a spun bearing i havent been on here in a long time to update but thats what it was and i bought the car with that sound so i never knew what was wrong with it but i tore it apart all the bearings needed replaced but just the one was bad so i changed them all but the crank was a little uneven so thats where im at now in need of a crank i believe
Oh, and another thing... travvy130 has his theory exactly backwards. If your lifters are bad, the car will lack power, due to the valves aren't opening enough. If your rod bearings are bad, then that sucker will run powerful and fine and then "bang!" that fucker will throw a rod right through the side of the engine block!
With that kind of racket, I'd certainly check my rod bearings at the crankshaft! Sounds to me like she's about ready to come apart. You can check the cam lifters too, but I doubt that's what that is. Do you have any oil pressure? How often have you been changing the oil? Geeze man... Good luck. I think you are on your way to an engine overhaul.
My car makes the same noise. If you drive it and you still have power then its prolly just the lifters but if your hesistating and losing power its prolly bearing
Need a stethoscope to isolate that sound. Might even have been a bad wiper arm.

My Dad's Stealth just started knocking today and sounds quite similar to this. The oilpan being dented leads me to believe it's a bearing. :(

it sounds like a rod bering bc a rod would have a high pitch noise
MrHellokitty5 2 years ago
all I know is when my spun a rod bearing it lost all power. the truck would't go past 35mph.

thats a lifter, 100% sure, and head gasket wouldn't make that noise, it'd just leak oil
adhdkid918 4 years ago
if it was lifter the noise would go away when raving. but bearings noise gets even louder.
