wasnt this the fastest plane ever built? i live in kalamazoo michigan and they have one on display in the air zoo and it says it can fly around the world in just 45 minutes..... i cant even fly from michigan to florida in 45 minutes... more like 2 hours
@STKhero lol, no, it can't fly around the world in 45 minutes. It can fly at over 3 times the speed of sound, though. I believe the record for a long flight was set in a New York - London flight - the average speed was over 2000mph, and the flight took 1 hour and 55 minutes.
To set the record straight the SR-71 is a spy plane and was used only to spy on other counties it had only a camera and did not have guns on board and was able at that time to out run any hostile force such as missiles or SAM
SAMTOMAS...during 1984 thru early 1989 the SR-71 made its living working thru SAC/INSAC FOR NavalIntel tracking Soviet SSBNs- Delta 1,2&3's, sailing out of Balaklava..flying out of (DET 1)Kadena & (DET 4)RAF Mildenhall doing reconn missions off Norway & Greenland and Sea of Japan and the Kamchatka Peninsula..

Excuse me? What was that? The SR-71 did enter service.
And those stupid MIGS didn't even make so much as a scratch in the 72 war. The Israeli Air Force eliminated all opposing air forces and their bases (most of the Egyptian Airforce was still on the ground when they were hit.) And the Syrian MIGS went down so easily. Not a single Israeli fighter was even shot down in the first day of the air war... After the first day Israel had shot down 85 Syrian MIGS, without loosing a single plane.
No. I was not saying that the Israelis used the SR-71 to shoot at anything. It is a spy plane, high altitude pictures and whatnot.
The Israelis use the F-14D, F-15, F-16, and soon the F-22. And the Israeli airforce has always dominated the middle east.
And yes, during the first day of the air war in '72 the score was Israel: 85, Arabs: 0 (Not a single Israeli jet was shot down. And over the whole of the war not many were.)
Where did you study? Not in any western country, I'd wager.

No, you are forgetting about the standard of training. If you gave the Ethiopian Airforce (there isn't really one) an F-22, they wouldn't know what to do with it... You need advanced training to fly those types of planes... training the Ethiopians don't have.

Well Dick, anti-semitism is a stinky cologne... And you STINK to high-heaven, sir. Why is that? In between the drunken beatings your redneck father gives you, he is probably spouting all sorts of anti-Jewish garbage... Hate the Jews just to hate them, eh? We killed Jesus? We are descended from the Devil Himself? I'm betting you've heard all of those statments flung around your home. It's sad, really... But a little funny, because it's a stereotype... And so are you.
You didn't have to say the words "I don't like Jews", you comments convey that message. It is an issue of tone, syntax, context, verbage and all that. I can see through your statements to the ant-semitism. It's normal that you would back-pedal when called on it... In the modern world most anti-semites won't publically admit to being anti-Jewish. It leaves a bad taste in most people's mouths these days, unless you are Arab. Then you quite like the taste, I'd imagine. Sorry I jumped on you.
Tribal folk can be tought sure... But it will take a lot longer, cost a lot more money, and generally be more difficult than it would be if you were training someone from an advanced nation. These were the two stupidest comments I've ever gotten on youtube.
Nothing you said was even close to right.

The conclusions you made based on my comments are literally the most mindlessly reactionary stupidity I've ever encountered.
Yes, I am saying that Ethopians cannot be tought to fly American planes as well as Israelis, and others from more developed countries. The Ethopians live in a much older, much simpler society. They are not advanced enough in terms of education and whatnot to lend themselves to training on advanced hardware as easily as others from more advanced countries. If you have never seen a warship before, how can you expect to become as good at using one as someone who has grown up with them?
The MiG 25's designed purpose was to intercept the SR-71 and it wasn't even close. During it's service life the Sled outran (yes, OUTRAN) over 1400 Soviet SAMs. On the last run, the last Blackbird flew from Pt. Mugu, CA to DC in 1 hour and 46 minutes.
outran...as in fuel burn and the bird would make a last ditch turn at the last sec. so it could not make a correction to target, as to fuel burn. most missles were MUCH faster. without a computer/warning system on board, many 71,s would have shot down.
Yeah, I guess I don't what I'm talking about. And neither does a retired sled driver that I happen to know. Coming out of Lybia many years ago he OUTRAN an SA-2. He pulled the throttles back to idle just south of Sicily and still overshot his tanker at the straits of Gibraltar. Yeah, maniac, I'm clueless.
sheeeesh...mello out. most sa-2 were history by mid 60,s. they were designed for 3000kph aircraft. velocity, mach is, 4.0 B/C/D, 4.5 E/F Mach. SAID..most, and being a I.G.I.C.U.(information gathering iconaclast carbon unit) and engineer of many hats, i love to share, as it looks like you do too. check with your friend...im talking about on board systems, many 'modern' sams do over mach 4
Too bad you don't have a U S military top secret clearance. The sled's max speed is still classified, I shall say no more. And yes, I know how the exponentials of velocity vs. induced pressure at altitude works, regardless of "on board systems."
Has a sled ever been shot down? No? Since 1963? I rest my case.
Sorry, maniac, it's all cool. Actually their ESM system sucked, it was designed for high RF/PRF intercept radars. If you hear the scream in the headset, RUN AWAY!!!! lol!

The music seems a little... off. SR-71s weren't designed to kill or bomb anything. They're reconnaissance planes. And awesome ones too. Of course, we've got satellites now... which are probably way more fuel efficient. Heh.
thanks for making this video about the habu. "Warbird" works here, because if the habu spotted you, the next thing you got was an airstrike! her sister plane the yf-12 was supposed to carry missiles, but the missiles were slower than the aircraft. The SR-71 is the only operational aircraft i know of that was too fast to fly armed. btw, i appreciate russian equipment, too, like the su-37.
The habu airspeed was computed using (1)T.A.S. was read out on the DAFICS computer (2) wind dir. + speed = T.G.S.(3) these values compared to DP & control pts + fixed pts readout from the A.N.S. computer to obtained a true M#.....Thanks
While I am completely with Militaryvideo, that the Foxbat is not capable of reaching 4000km/h, it may be possible for it to reach mach 4. Its service ceiling is 68,000ft. Bearing in mind that the Mach Number is a function of both air temperature and aircraft speed, it can be seen that if the max speed of the aircraft is 3300km/h at 40,000ft, then it could probably top mach 4 at 69,000. Even thought the engine efficiency changes at those altitudes.
most people don't understand things like that i'm studying to be a pilot so i know what your talking about generaly the exact same thing happens to any other engine from the lack of oxygen thus less horsepower about 1/2 as much at 12,000 feet on land vehicals it sugnifigantly less since oxygen is being forced in a high velocties so the effects aren't nearly as severe in the air
The SR-71 didn't use a pitot-static system to find true airspeed, the RSO used a combination of compressor inlet temperature and pressure alitude from the DAFICS computer readout with values form the NAV system..thanks
you ar both right in a way because the SR71 as made fast to avoid trracking and missiles but also is designed for slow because if you throttle idle in a vertical climb of dive e.t.c. it will always automatically recover
It leaks fuel because the plane has engineered gaps in the fuselage. This is due to the thermal expansion that takes place at the extreme speeds. The plane can "grow" in length by several inches. Fuel leaks on the ground but gets sealed as it gains speed. No other fluids leak out. The most awesome airplane ever!
Yes, the density of the plane is different when it is on the ground makes it leak fuel. When it "goes up there" the aircrafts density changes because of the massive heat created by friction from the airflow - and probably the heat from the engines too.
The SR-71 is purposely made loosely while on the ground. It does leak JP-7. I used get it on my uniform all the time while I did maintenance on it. The fuel ballasts expand as the Blackbird reaches altitude, making everything tight.
dee dee dee. 4000km/h. U on crack or somethin. give me a link for that claim. Also, the Foxbat has a range of maybe 500 miles supersonic. Try that against 2900 miles.
But unfortunatlly these beautiful heroes of Cold War era Sr-71 and MiG-25 are not in service. so sad, i like both of them. they were deserved opponents
your military knows it is true. happened in the cold war. of course it is not in the internet. so sorry. the mig is not like the sr71. sr71 is designed to go at slow speeds while taking pics. foxbat is designed to go at high altitudes and high speed while taking pics. here is a claim that i have a link for. in 1973 a isreli radar clocked a mig 25r going at mach 3.2. if u want to see this, go to google and type mig 25. it will be one of the links. forgot which one
lol. SR-71 designed to go at slow speeds. keep dreamin. ur probably one of those russians that thinks your equipment is better than american equipment. Oh ya, after it went mach 3.2, it's engines had to be replaced. SR-71 cruised at that speed for hours on end.
i am not that kind of a racist russian. american stuff are pretty good, but it is extremly expensive. that is how your country is in billions of dollars in debt.
Russia steals from its people to fund its military machine. Which of course, isn't anything anymore. You're still using tubes instead of transistors. That's ancient crap.
Wrong again. The SR-71 was designed to go at fast speeds at high altitude to take pictures. The different camera systems were capable of taking pictures of 150,000 sq miles per hour. On the other hand, the U-2/TR-1 was designed to go slow at high altitudes to linger in an area and take pictures
A Mig-25 Foxbat never approached Mach 4. A Mig-25 attempted to chase an SR-71 over Israel and FODed its engines out when the compressor blades melted. The SR-71 was at Mach 3.1 and pulling away. The Mig-25 isn't capable of that speed because of the inferior materials used to build it.........plywood floors.

dee dee dee. 4000km/h. U on crack or somethin. give me a link for that claim. Also, the Foxbat has a range of maybe 500 miles supersonic. Try that against 2900 miles.

i don't belive that Mig-25 could fly 4000 km/h.

SR-71 cruised at that speed for hours on end.

i am not that kind of a racist russian. american stuff are pretty good, but it is extremly expensive. that is how your country is in billions of dollars in debt.

we still can fund our arm forces unlike Russia

russia can fund their military. if they couldnt fund, then how could they be mass producing mig 35s and pak fa's right now?

Too bad it sodens't fly anymore..now the MiG-31 is the fastest plane still flying.

Since the "HABU" didn't carry any weapons ,the music seems a little out of place , but it was a 3.50 mach haulin' ass machine.
