And those stupid MIGS didn't even make so much as a scratch in the 72 war. The Israeli Air Force eliminated all opposing air forces and their bases (most of the Egyptian Airforce was still on the ground when they were hit.) And the Syrian MIGS went down so easily. Not a single Israeli fighter was even shot down in the first day of the air war... After the first day Israel had shot down 85 Syrian MIGS, without loosing a single plane.

No. I was not saying that the Israelis used the SR-71 to shoot at anything. It is a spy plane, high altitude pictures and whatnot.

The Israelis use the F-14D, F-15, F-16, and soon the F-22. And the Israeli airforce has always dominated the middle east.

And yes, during the first day of the air war in '72 the score was Israel: 85, Arabs: 0 (Not a single Israeli jet was shot down. And over the whole of the war not many were.)

During Oct/73 SR-71 overflights of Siani&goldlds Heights recorded Isreali equipment losses..both sides tried tracking Habu ,with Eqypt&Syria engaging the SR with SA4's ,,,during this period the legend of Habu out running S/A missls started..one Habu sortie, did use Max Q=110% power settings to out turn/outrun a battery of SA4s when it was fired upon...I imagine the RSO had Habu's ECM systems really screaming during the engagement.......

No, you are forgetting about the standard of training. If you gave the Ethiopian Airforce (there isn't really one) an F-22, they wouldn't know what to do with it... You need advanced training to fly those types of planes... training the Ethiopians don't have.

The tech is great, don't get me wrong , but don't discount the training it takes to use the stuff. That's why Israel dominates the region, better gear and better training.

Tribal folk can be tought sure... But it will take a lot longer, cost a lot more money, and generally be more difficult than it would be if you were training someone from an advanced nation. This is probably why you don't see many (if any) Ethopian pilots in the I.A.F. It's not racism that keeps them out, it's all the advanced testing that weeds them out. You have to be the cream of the crop to make it into the I.A.F., and the Ethopians aren't so creamy yet... Give them time.

Yes, I am saying that Ethopians cannot be tought to fly American planes as well as Israelis, and others from more developed countries. The Ethopians live in a much older, much simpler society. They are not advanced enough in terms of education and whatnot to lend themselves to training on advanced hardware as easily as others from more advanced countries. The MiG 25's designed purpose was to intercept the SR-71 and it wasn't even close. During it's service life the Sled outran (yes, OUTRAN) over 1400 Soviet SAMs. On the last run, the last Blackbird flew from Pt. Mugu, CA to DC in 1 hour and 46 minutes.

"Warbird" works here, because if the habu spotted you, the next thing you got was an airstrike! her sister plane the yf-12 was supposed to carry missiles, but the missiles were slower than the aircraft. The SR-71 is the only operational aircraft i know of that was too fast to fly armed. btw, i appreciate russian equipment, too, like the su-37.

While I am completely with Militaryvideo, that the Foxbat is not capable of reaching 4000km/h, it may be possible for it to reach mach 4. Its service ceiling is 68,000ft. Bearing in mind that the Mach Number is a function of both air temperature and aircraft speed, it can be seen that if the max speed of the aircraft is 3300km/h at 40,000ft, then it could probably top mach 4 at 69,000. Even thought the engine efficiency changes at those altitudes.

most people don't understand things like that i'm studying to be a pilot so i know what your talking about generaly the exact same thing happens to any other engine from the lack of oxygen thus less horsepower about 1/2 as much at 12,000 feet on land vehicals it sugnifigantly less since oxygen is being forced in a high velocties so the effects aren't nearly as severe in the air

The SR-71 didn't use a pitot-static system to find true airspeed, the RSO used a combination of compressor inlet temperature and pressure alitude from the DAFICS computer readout with values form the NAV system..thanks

It leaks fuel because the plane has engineered gaps in the fuselage. This is due to the thermal expansion that takes place at the extreme speeds.The plane can "grow" in length by several inches. Fuel leaks on the ground but gets sealed as it gains speed. No other fluids leak out. The most awesome airplane ever!

Sorry xxwzaebd... the MiG-31 isn't the fastest plane now. It's the U.S. X-43A, which flew Mach 7 (nearly 5,000 mph) on March 27, 2004.

However, the fastest air-breathing (and manned) plane is still the SR-71.

Yes, the density of the plane is different when it is on the ground makes it leak fuel. When it "goes up there" the aircrafts density changes because of the massive heat created by friction from the airflow - and probably the heat from the engines too.

The SR-71 is purposely made loosely while on the ground. It does leak JP-7. I used get it on my uniform all the time while I did maintenance on it.  The fuel ballasts expand as the Blackbird reaches altitude, making everything tight.

Wrong again. The SR-71 was designed to go at fast speeds at high altitude to take pictures. The different camera systems were capable of taking pictures of 150,000 sq miles per hour. On the other hand, the U-2/TR-1 was designed to go slow at high altitudes to linger in an area and take pictures

A Mig-25 Foxbat never approached Mach 4. A Mig-25 attempted to chase an SR-71 over Israel and FODed its engines out when the compressor blades melted. The SR-71 was at Mach 3.1 and pulling away.
