I dont understand why people are offended by the king comments. I would understand if these monarchies actually did something to protect their own people or help the middle-east in general, but with all of their oil wealth their economies and education systems remain grossly underdeveloped. How can Islam reconcile with democracy when the Hadiths or Quoran, clearly and absolutely outline right vs wrong as universal constants without bothering to make further investigations, whereas democracy is self discovery borne by a greater sense of personal choice ?

james the information u r giving is very one sided and out of context firstly a women does not have to fight for the mans attention as the man needs to give all 4 wives equal attention otherwise he is not allowed to have them. Secondly a beating does not mean whipping the women it actually says a light hit which does not leave a mark and that is the last resolution to the problem. Lastly the woman is not abandoned withe the children the man has to provide for them!!!

it still counts as a Monarchy, we have Sheikhs, which are equivalent to Princes. And parliament doesn't add to or take away from the fact that we have a Constitutional Monarchy, just as there was a British Parliament back when they had Kings. There was always a House of Lords, and a House of Commons. So that's why i found it insulting that this guy is bashing us.

I studied Advanced Government & Politics at a Cambridge University level. I think I know the difference between one and the other. And almost every Monarchy existing today is a respectable one. Name me ONE 1st or 2nd World country that has a "totalitarian monarchy" nowadays..? :) yea just as I thought, there aren't any. He is insulting "Kings" in the larger sense, not necessarily TOTALITARIAN ones.
