The reason sonic is in a kart is because the drift mechanics wouldnt work with any of the characters if they were using there legs for racing instead. As such the developers decided ALL characters had to be in a vehicle to the game to work properly... having played the demo i gotta admit sonics kart looks awesome and i didnt mind one bit he was using it for transport.

And as far as how different and better it is goes, to me, all the difference I see is Characters, Overall design of the game, and possibly powerups are different. Mario Kart is guilty of recently using Vehicles as 'karts', they're not the first to use "Vehicle Karts" or bikes. This game is pretty much taking different elements and putting it's own original twist to it. That's just my thought, not everyone's going to agree and I don't expect everyone to agree either.

True that, but if those aren't Karts then technically Mario Kart Wii and DS, everyone only has one "Kart" and a choice of other cars depending on Weight Class. The Standard Karts are the only Karts in the game, all the other 'karts' are cars just like the 'cars' in this game. If Tails has a Plane Car, Bowser had one in Mario Kart DS. What I'm saying is, just because it's Mario "Kart" doesn't mean all vehicles in the game are Karts, But you're right Sonic doesn't have a single kart in the game.

There is no obsession about the word "kart". Because Mario Kart influenced a new kind of racing genre, we call it a kart racer because that's how it started as. If it involves weapons and battling out as you race cartoon style, it's going to be described in the gaming world as a Kart Racer regardless of what kind of vehicles the game is using.

I guess it has to do with the fact Sonic and Mario have a huge rivalry those who have, supposedly, ripped off Mario Kart, swept past without and criticism drawn to them, I never thought of Crash Team Racing being a ripoff of Mario Kart, never even occurred to me when the game came out. but this war so to speak and fans love to rowdy a Mario and Sonic comparison battle, it gets huge attention due to those two have been rivals for so long, few minors are put in the limelight of rip off.

Dude, I have a bunch of reasons this isn't a knock off. First, this doesn't have "karts". see any karts in there? No. Just purebred racing machines built to kick ass. Second, it's more mature. it may look as kiddish as Mario Kart but the controls of it r as complicated as Gran Turismo and if u paid any attention to the vid at all, there's a House of the Dead track. Full of zombies! And lastly, this is more about racing than anything else. It's like Forza Motorsports mixed with Sonic!

1) Sonic is faster than the others...

2) Sonic is too speedy!!! Difficult to steer like a flash car.

3) Sonic is not motor engine may be exhausted for too long,

4) With the upgrade of the mobile, Sonic would be race against one another.

Just to recap, the reason Sonic's in a car (as well as Beat from Jet Set Radio) is because of issues concerning collission detection. Plus the hedgehog's on a frikking road with loads of cars on it. Any brit will tell you what conclusion that'll end with.
