Wish they were out when I was looking at a .22 DA a while ago seem like a nice stop between taurus and smiths, would love to get to shoot one some time. I ended up getting the taurus model 94 which started with an atrociously heavy and pretty rough trigger pull which has really lightened and smoothed up and I really like the gun now
@nutnfancy I love mine, only problems are the shot placement is quite odd, and mine is only single-action. The hammer will be stiff out of the box, lubricate the action so it moves smoothly, unless you want to skin your thumb on it like me.
Anyone else notice the cylinder pin was out on the single 10. Hope the next reviewer doesn't come along, cock it, and have the cylinder drop out of timing. "This things a piece of crap!"
My carry gun is a 3" sp101, and I love it. If they made the 22 in 3" with the same sights as the 357 I'd buy it in a second, and use cheap 22s to play with, while still getting the same feel of my everyday gun... That'd be in a perfect world. In the world we live in, I'm still really really tempted by this 4" 22.
@TacticalDoodle Cool, thanks for the quick reply. Probably around your age, would be nice to see a channel run like TNP, by someone around my age. but this is good too ;)
At the gun shop I work at in CA, these have been impossible to keep in stock! By contrast, almost no one is buying the 617 except for die hard S&W fans and a few people that want a DA .22 revolver and don't mind the extra cost. Once we actually receive a significant enough inventory of these to keep one on display, I am sure that the few 617 sales we get will vanish and turn into SP101 .22 sales.
Ruger is hitting homerun after homerun with their new products.
You and Doodle have an awesome father and son dynamic that should be the envy of all parents (and kids). He won the lottery with tactical dad, but that's another story. Not all dads need to be uber tactical to have great rapport with their kids. And I'm not talking supplicating to their kids, making them their "buddies". I'm talking old school bring them in early, raise them right, the way the tribe use to do it back in the day. PS. LOVE pussification video, you nailed it spot on.
This is actually the second time they have released the sp-101 in .22lr. The original back in the early 90's was highly sought after by collectors and got to be pretty pricey. But since the re-release the value of the original has gone down.
@conanswordman yes they were, SHOT Show was last week and I also attended. Saw NutnFancy but we were both too busy to talk to each other. Maybe next year!
Also, having a butt-load of chambers affects the durability of the timing cams on the back of the cylinder. Messed up on on a 10-shot 617. Fixed it and sold it. Would have kept it if it were the 6-shot with bigger cams. (They need to be smaller with more shots--less room.)
Thanks for the mini review. Sorry to hear about the stiff trigger. I've always liked the Ruger DA grips. For .22 revolver, prefer fewer chambers for cleaning reasons. Load more often, but less of a PITA each time, especially in that Single 6/10.
I like my GP100s trigger, that two stage I feel as I pull the trigger makes going double action easier for me, though the single action could be lighter.
Hey nutn, did you get a chance to ask Ruger what happened to all the cool Stainless, Fluted barrel etc 22/45 models? They've all disappeared from the Ruger website, I hope they're not discontinued as I really wanted one!
we had a this thing at are range were we got to test new firearms and my 10 year old brother could not pull the double and had a hard time with the single action as well. If you buy this for a child as like a first .22 pistol you need trigger work
@Rprecision I'm sure the TNP is a capitalistic one. Intended or otherwise. The adds you speak of contribute to the piggy bank just like any other. Just don't pay attention. There are plenty of non republicans who are nutn fans and many more who believe in 2nd amendment, own firearms, train with them and appreciate anything that can be learned by this channel.
@Rprecision relax nutn doesnt cherry pick the ads google + sometimes your browser history does, besides why are you trying to polarize people? not cool dude. I could care less what anyone in here is political or otherwise, we all enjoy the channel / our hobbies represented here.
Hmm If you believe this is a great trainer for the .357 version then I am surprised you have not looked at the M&P .22 that is the same size as the M&P9. Made by Walter but is a great transition gun and a fun plinker ;)
Hmm, looks cool. I would definitely shoot one. Don't know if I would initiate and buy the .22 version. Interesting vid. The single 10 looks more my style for fun and plinking. Thanks Nutn!
Maybe I haven't studies S&W's closely enough, but I've always preferred Rugers. Something about the heft and feel, and value, always make me like Ruger better. Still don't own either... but the SP101 has been on my list for a long time.
The trigger is very stiff...I'm going to take mine to the gunsmith soon to get it done. This is a very accurate revolver and it's built like a SP101...built like a tank! The 4.20" is great to generate enough power out of the .22lr. It's a pricy revolver, but for what your getting compared to it's competitors I think it's well worth it. I'm excited you covered this one Nutn...keep it up!
nice looking revolver, may have to get one at some point. Ruger markets it as a wilderness kit gun, but for the weight I say, no way. but in the POU of recreational gun, trainer for a centerfire revolver, it will rock, and probably for a good price too. Thanks Nutn, keep the SHOT videos coming!
Looking at a superblackhawk in 44. They look like squared away revolvers. shot a few taurus revolvers-I will not buy another Taurus, 41 mag is a joke. TCP 738 fail, even after a trip to the factory.
I'd like to see a video on a 327mag. I want something small, easy to carry and the 5 shot set up just isn't enough. with the 327 you get an extra shot maybe more in some apps....for my wife of course!!
@rammsteinlover1337 old school all the way!! really, do you need "recoil absorbing" grips on a classic .22 relvolver? maybe shooting ++++++p+++++ loads they would be nice, along the lines of a 22-250 revolver, but seriously.
@rammsteinlover1337 right on, how are the gun laws in Sweden? here in Canada it kinda sucks, no ak's, need special licence to get ar's and handguns (and authorization to transport), other licence to get normal rifles/shotguns, no full auto's, sbr's, sbs's suppressors, ect, ect. my cousin just finished a exchange trip to Sweden, she loved it.
@Ready2Run1 yeah kind of sucks here too, its very hard to get an AK, AR, but hunting rifles isnt that hard, you need a gunlicense and and then a hunting license, pistols are easier, you will need a license and you must have a reason to own one, you cant own one for self defense but you can own one if you compete in pistol shooting, and in every license you will have to be active in a local shooting association and have to be active with that association and gun, or the police can take the gun!!
@Ready2Run1 Swedish gun laws is about as tought I suppose. you can own full auto if you are military or has a very specific need for it, also if you are a gun collector but you need special permit to fire the gun each time. also you are limited to a set number of guns depending on their characteristics. this includes bolt action guns. oh and you need a licens for silencers. also an airgun over 10 juel and crossbows both require licens some are impossible to get.
@Ready2Run1 oh yes almost forgot, for a hand gun licens you need to aquire a green card. and be a member of a handgun club for 6 months. and first licens has to be a .22 simular with rifles unless you intend to hunt, which require "jägar examen" and if you have a licens for hunting you can also sport with it but you can not use a rifle with a sport licens for hunting.
@Dechthem kind of strange but i guess the .22 first thing makes sense-to make sure people are good with their guns and don't have to pay a bundle to practice the basics. the slingshot thing i think is ridicules but what can you do? makes Canada seem pretty lax compared to some of the oversees country's. here we can technically get a licence to obtain full autos and suppressors but it is very specific and each has to be issued by the provincial firearms officer, virtually NONE are approved, like 0
