Jan Evensmo thinks those are two different tenor soloists, not Forrest on both, and I agree that once you consider that possibility, it's pretty obvious. I think Forrest on the first and John Harrington or J.D. King on the second. The funny thing about the first half of the trumpet is that around this time there were two people on Earth who could play like that, on pitch (unlike Diz), and they were in the same band.
Yes this is off the chain....! However, this is the same tpt for 1st 16 bars, not 8 (the 1st 2 A sections), and then another tpt for the bridge and last 8 section of tpt solo...Fats was really playing so much like Maggie back then, its really hard to tell, but i think Oddo is right below, Fats is the 2nd one, cutting his mentor, and coming in a bunch higher than him....go Fats!!!!! thanks again, this track is so dope!!!!

@deejaymushone
I thank for comment from you.
You admired that the profound knowledge was deep for a performance of Fats.
I am glad that you were able to give useful information to me.

It depends on the time signiture if it is 8 or 16 bars-I'd have to see the chart to tell the count.
Thank you my friends! ; )

I think the first 8 bars of trumpet solo was Howard, and the later was Fats :D

Wonderful music from one of my favourite bands. Do you have Andy Kirk's version of "What Can I Tell My Heart"?
Thank you for sharing.
