  • its a shame you dont have way more views. youre so much more talented than most musicians i see on youtube. smh

  • OMG YES Thank you so much for these samples and the pdf! yes yes yes yessss!!!! VESPERS! :D

  • cantalupe island?!?!

  • you are my friggin idol man!

  • Hey Vespers! A nice modern take on a classic! I'm a drummer and rate Joe Morello as one of the best :0)

What's the reason you played in 4/4?

    Cheers

  • you are fucking insane!

  • your the sickest dude! love this to fucking death.

  • OMG the WOBBLE !!

  • sir, you are an inspiration, and fucking awesome. i saw on another video that you live in Vancouver..same here, and i would totally pay to watch you perform..do you have any regular gigs somewhere in the city?

  • BY the way i meant abelton's multi band dynamics

  • Nothing to do with this video but i have a quick ?'s. first off is it o.k. to apply reverb to multiband dynamics lets just say for example i make a group solo out the highs the mids and the lows to there own channel and i apply reverb to the mids. on the master track is that bad?

  • @ventura805666 put your reverb on a return and always highpass what you put into a reverb. There are some exceptions to that highpass rule in sound design but unless you're master of sound design i'd high pass them for sure to remove the low end, the phasing and blowing your headroom being a few reasons

Vespers made a default template he talks about in another video, you should def check it out, his website is down right now but you can contact him on here and purchase it, def worth it.

  • WOBBLESAX!

  • you are an inspiration! haha my friend and I are just starting out with the same set up, minus the sax and the kaos pad. Thank you for sharing!

  • Good stuff dude... Nice!!!

  • Great!

  • The thing is, you changed 'take 5' to 'take 4' (the point is that take 5 had 5 beats to a bar)

    but otherwise VERY cool!

  • @planetNS Yes, I realize this ;) I played the original in 5/4 time. I just wanted to keep the title as take 5 so people would find it in searches. No one looks for "take 4" LOL Thanks for watching!

  • @DJVespers kkkkkoool

it's just i'm a music nerd (I also play sax, yay!) and I really like take 5 and all that other jazzy stuff but...

    I'm GOING INTO DUBSTEP/GLITCH-HOP/DNB/GENERAL-TECHNO

    so I like everything

  • @DJVespers WHACK-ASS-INTRO

  • @DJVespers How do you make that sound on the ewi, what layers do yalll use.

  • hey you, can you find me a nice high quality external usb soundcard for my lenovo?

  • @AeonFlexMusic Hey mate. Not sure what a lenovo is, but check out the MOTU Microbook. I just got one, it's awesome.

  • @AeonFlexMusic look on ebay for the old motu 828 firewire, not mk or mkII just the motu 828, sounds amazing and wont set you back more than 250. and they're built like technics you could use them to fend off an angry mob and then plug it in and start playign. haha. :D something bout solid steel rackmount equipment just feels good. the new motu's are good too if you got the money. If you want some killer pre-amps though i'd reccomend sinking the money on an apogee setup though to start.

  • @joeblack949 MOTU gear is sick! The 828 is badass. I want one for my studio too. Good call.

  • Great innovation bro! I'm not so sure the DJ applies to your name anymore! hahah!

.. at least in this case ;)

Great use of your gear and talents. I only had one small criticism, I think the piano sound didn't fit with that nasty nice grimey wobble you had, plus its such an overused synth piano sound. I think a slightly more dirty synth sound might fit in there much nicer or throw some effects on that piano maybe?

Might take it to an 11 if ya know what i mean. Regardless, awesome bro!

  • @SeanMontie Thanks Sean. It's kind of pseudo-live PA I guess. Good call on the piano, it's just a scratch track. The final will have acoustic piano with some dirt.

  • good work! can i download this from somewhere?

  • Hey I must say, this is really impressive. Do you have tracks on Itunes, because Ive played some of your youtube songs on my college radio station, and Ive had people ask me where to get them.

Also, I use Ableton too, and I was just wondering, how do you get something that you play on a midi instrument or something to loop in real time without having to stop? I was just wondering because this has been bugging me for a while. Keep up the good work man.

  • @thedude6123 most ppl who want to record and loop live like this punch in and out with foot pedals, the punch out might even be dictated by the size of the clip in advance, have overdub turned on, turn it off when youre practicing then on when you wnt to record midi data, he might actually have the overdub button itself mapped to a pedal for this one, im not sure never asked him. Also consider the default record quantization and metranome intro and make your midiclips with the length set already

  • Can this make a sound similar of daft punk's harder better faster stonger. Like a talk box?

  • @PedroMagao Nope. To sound like a talk box you...er...need a talk box. No substitute as far as I know. Sorry ;)

  • @DJVespers

i dunno if its a talk box but im pretty sure the microkorg has a function that gives a talkbox feel.

  • @slickshooter5 For sure. That's likely a vocoder. Similar kinda sound. Cheers!

  • You're the boss, you must show this to international music companys. the dubstep world needs you!

  • @PedroMagao Thanks mate. Got any label contacts?

  • @DJVespers nope, and im from portugal. but Im sharing this because people deserve to listen to your songs man!

  • @PedroMagao Thanks Pedro. Cheers!

  • Great video really really really good. THis is MUSIC!

What the name of the grey vocal instrument?

  • @PedroMagao Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed. The instrument is an Akai EWI 4000S wind synth.

  • nice remix :) I like how you've adapted the time signature. Ohhh and btw just as a fellow alto player, don't you get creases in your reeds when you have your ligature facing screws downward? That's why I switched to a leather one (I think it sounds nicer too) thanks for all the tuts and interesting vids man xx

  • @fluffjelly Thanks bro! I've never had problems with creased reeds, but I'm sure a leather one would sound warmer. The metal one is a bit harsh, especially if tightened at all. Cheers!

  • Hey Vespers, im sure Paul Desmond would dig this ;) great work man!

  • @vpmitchell Thanks mate! Much appreciated.

  • legend!

great video and performance/ over again you made a hit!!!

PS: look at the shadow on the wall, it moves with the flow :)

  • Is that an Alto or Tenor?

  • @jneb748 Alto :)

  • @DJVespers Also could you explain to me what your mapping is for your Kaoss Pad on the left mainly at the beginning.

  • @jneb748 It's running audio out to Live through my soundcard and I'm using of the KP's drum synth settings. I'm just moving around the drum synth patch. Cheers!

  • Truly inspirational! I've just started to enter the realm of Ableton, and your videos make it so much easier to grasp some of the concepts and this is so original! Mad props mate!

  • @italiazn Thanks for the kind words. Glad my videos have helped you learn the program faster. Cheers!

  • Very original!! :-)

  • @izanmarvel I love fusion music, and technology. Thanks!

  • what's the name of the istrument that you use from 34 to 47??

  • @seppele5000 It's an Akai MPD32. It's actually just a midi controller, mapped out to Ableton Drum Racks. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers a ok thx =D

  • I gotta get hip the the pedals eventually.

  • @gnattychad Yea mate. The pedals make it so much easier with looper. Hands free operation.

  • Vespers, I am seriously inspired by you. I'm a sax player also, but have been more interested in electronic music and hip-hop. I was in a musical rut and once I saw how the EWI could interface with electronic music, I was like, hmmmm, that's gotta happen. One question, what are the odds you'd be willing to share your settings to get that gnarly bass for the EWI. I have the 4000, live 8, and the apc40. gnattychad@gmail.com, thanks bro and keep doing what you are doing

  • @gnattychad Hey bro. I'd suggest learning how to build up your own patches in Sampler. If I just gave you all mine, I wouldn't be encouraging you to learn. I'd rather teach you to fish than give you a fish, you know? Start by watching some tutorials on Sampler, and use the EWI's breath pressure (aftertouch in midi) to automate parameters. Let me know if you need help along the way. Cheers!

  • damn that was sick!

  • monster man

  • CANT BELIEVE YOU ONLY HAD THIS MANY VIEWS - PLEASE CHECK OUT MY VIDEOS OR SOUNDCLOUD - YOUR COMMENTS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED :)

    SOUNDCLOUD((dot))com/MAJORTRIADZ

  • Take five in two-step? Thats awesome but maybe you should have done two-and-a-half-step :)

  • @AhhThatGuy LOL, yeah. The 5/4 to 4/4 conversion was a bit of a test. But, it's dance music. It's gotta be 4/4.

  • @DJVespers Or we have to make a new dance :)

I mean waltzes worked, so if we can take out a beat who's to say we can't put one in

  • @AhhThatGuy LOL. I have a friend who runs a burlesque dancing school. Maybe we'll do a music video to this one.

  • @DJVespers now you're talking haha

By the way how did you make the 5/4 to 4/4 conversion? Warp? or did you chop up the sample? Im new to abelton

  • @AhhThatGuy Oh, I didn't use any samples. I just rewrote it and played each element. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers Ah I see :) In that case, nice piano sound, very vintage!

  • @AhhThatGuy It's Native Instruments Akoustic Piano. I love that plugin. I used to play classical piano and it sounds totally real. Cheers!

  • holy hell! that bass warble is so nasty!

  • Hey, you seem like you have it together. I'm trying to get myself started in electronic music and whatnot.

What would you say motivates you?

  • @55555bob Passion for sure. I've always had a burning desire to write and perform music. I couldn't possibly stop myself from doing it. Motivation isn't even in the equation. I'm compelled to do it, just wired that way. Cheers!

  • Dude that is sick, can't stop listening to it

  • @uuLeimaJ Thanks mate. Glad you dig. Cheers.

  • you suck man you know your not playing that horn.. just stick to pushing buttens..

  • @macgregor60 Yaaaaaa, that's right...I just pose with the horn and find meticulously cut samples to match with my fingers.... That would take more talent than I have. Easier just to play the damn thing, LOL.

  • @macgregor60 Do you even know what's going on?!?....lol....lil' heads up....thing's are changing....it's refreshing to see someone take the current technology and put their own stamp on things....cmon, music drives most of us....isn't that what lead you to this post?

  • @macgregor60 Don't hate my friend....shit's changing...Props to Vesper for utilizing current technology and putting his own stamp on it.....Music is what drives creative people...if it isn't your cup of tea or your just not keeping up with technology then you will be left behind.

  • @macgregor60 What's a butten? what ever it is push them privately and quietly and the f^*% away from here.

  • lovin it! Is it the korg kaoss the saxes are going into?

  • @jcwilkes524 Thanks! The sax is going into Ableton's looper.

  • verry mad

  • @TwickenStep Thanks bro!

  • Comment removed

  • it isn't "take 5" if it's not in 5/4 signature :) but still very very cool

  • @jahzzzz Yeah, very true. Adapted the take 5 to the take 4 for the dance music version. Cheers!

  • thats the good stuff.

  • The sax playing in this is awesome!!! More talent there than most DJs I have seen. Nice linup of gear. I have the MPD32 and launchpad/live but I just play keyboard. Awesome work.

  • 1:45 - sick!

  • killer...

  • This is one of the sickest things I've ever seen on youtube. Pure talent, musical genius...Amazing. I'm a beatmaker myself but I'd like to start getting more sax and wind instruments into my stuff.

  • @kryogenix Thanks for watching the vid my friend. I appreciate the comment!

  • damn!!! is there an mp3 download for this???

  • @05endless There will be a mastered version of this on my upcoming album. Jump on my Facebook fan page to make sure you hear about it first. Cheers!

  • @05endless if you have firefox download, downloadhelper, you'll be able to download the video. if you want it as an mp3 download anyvideoconverter as well and i'll convert it to 320kbs mp3. hopw that helps

  • Good stuff.

    But hey,

you have too much money. Nice equipment:)

  • Just watched this again. This is absolutely sick!

  • ....are you running sugarbytes through the mpd?

  • @Juiceboxdubstep Yep, you got it. Sugar Bytes Artillery II is running via the MPD. But I also have the FCB1010 (foot controller) mapped to play dummy midi clips that play Artillery for when I'm playing the sax. I can glitch hands free that way while playin the horn.

  • fuckkk glitched out jazzy dubstep.. 3 of my favorite genres all in one.. your studio continues to amaze me and you throw the fuck down to back it up. i loooove that ewi.. dope you can play a dubstep bass on it... do you just like play it harder and the lfo goes faster? doope nasty sauce. this is like my new favorite song. love the saxxy break down towards the end.

  • @Juiceboxdubstep Yeah, I've mapped wind velocity to LFO tempo and LFO to filter amount so the harder I blow the more wobbly and intense the sound gets. This is wickedly easy in Ableton's Sampler. Check out my other vid entitled "Vespers introduces his live music setup" to see details. I walk you through it.

  • @DJVespers whats next to the mpk25?

  • @ch33secake88 The gear up there from left to right is a Korg Kaoss Pad 3, Akai MPD32 and Akai APC40. Cheers!

  • Damn Beeeeeeeach!

    You are soooooo freakin INSPIRATIONAL!!!

And you're willing to share your knowledge with the masses-sheer benevolence!!!!!

    Thank YOU!!!

  • @any1particular Wow. You're like my new #1 favourite subscriber. Thanks for the kind words and subscribing.

  • You are sic sic sic bro. Killer vid. Just blasted your vampire beats last night for everyone here in Chile.

  • @thetaycon Dude, nice one! Vampire Sunrise hits Chile! Thanks for the support. Subscribe for more updates soon. Cheers!

  • are you using a foot controller...looks like you are... :-)

  • @squidskunk Yep, I'm using a Behringer FCB1010. I run it into Ableton through Bome's Midi Translator Pro and map each of the foot pedals to functions on multiple loopers and dummy midi clips mapped out to Sugar Bytes Artillery II for hands free glitch edits. I like the FCB1010 because it has lots of pedals and several pedal bank layers for lots of control.

  • awesome!

  • " AKAI everything!! I'm jealous, I only have the MPK49 so far....

How do those Rokit 5's sound? I was thinking the 8's for myself but your vids make it seem like the 5's are plenty!

    5*s for the performance!! "

  • Akai is the bomb. I love their gear. The audio on this vid is recorded direct from Ableton so the sound you hear isn't actually coming from the Rockits. The 5's are pretty good, but lack proper bass response without a sub. I'd still get the 8's if I were you. I use Mackie HR824's in my production studio and I still want a sub.

  • i recognize that sax line from Dave Brubeck's Tave Five ...might just be a coincidence : )

  • Yep, that is indeed where it's from. I basically took the tune and converted it from 5/4 to 4/4 then glitched it up ;) Thanks for watching!

  • Amazing video mate! loving it!

  • I love your live setup. Very performance friendly.

Where did you get those wobbly basslines from?

This is quality stuff! keep at it!

  • Hey, the wobble is a patch I created custom in Ableton's sampler. I explain it more in my video titled Vespers Live Performance Setup with Ableton Live 8. Check it. Cheers!

  • Amazing!

  • I love the fact that you have a mirror in your home studio. You can admire yourself while playing that FONKY music.

  • The narcissist in me says YES, the Youtuber in me says it's also good so you can see what I'm doing ;)

  • Nice ! You should be performing in front of a BIG audience ! 5* no doubt.

  • Word! Many thanks mate. Coming soon I hope.

  • yes mate! v cool

  • Congratulations

  • FUCKIN TITE!

  • U gotta like BigGigantic to right??

  • Hmmm, never heard of them. I'll check em out. Cheers!

  • oman...so much winsauce

hope i get to see it live one day!

  • big one!

  • nice work!

  • I really love the wobble bass ableton EWI thing you set up. really good foresight, i want tp get the ewi usb, but i hear its quite rubbish compared to the EWI you have any advice!?

  • The USB is cheaper I think and it comes with a pretty good sound library. I like the 4000s though because I can use it wirelessly withe m-audio midair system. I don't like cords in a live performance. The build quality on the 4000s is awesome too. Not too sure about the USB as I don't have one.

  • @DJVespers can ewi akai 4000 be played silently with earphones so not to disturb neighbours? and how close it comes in sound of real saxophone, i would really practise in peace in my apartment to get better then move along to real saxophone and practise with others, what do you think?.

  • Yes, the EWI can be played through headphones using the internal sound module, but it sounds nothing like a real sax. The built in sounds are cheap. Best to get a tone generator like the Yamaha VLM70 with the Patchman Music turbo chip in it. Also, the octave fingerings and ombuchure are totally different on an EWI. It's much, much easier to play than a real sax. Keep that in mind. Cheers!

  • Awesome groove! I need to do more with my EWI.

  • Yeaaah! Sweet...

  • You turned Take 5 into Take 4

  • Yeah, glad someone noticed! Haha. 5/4 time doesn't mix with dance music so I had to convert it ;)

  • ....though I would like to hear it happen. I managed a song in 15 that actually flows, and I think there is all sorts of possibility in this arena.

    Sick song though, fo sure.

  • F*CKING SMOKING!

  • very cool!

  • Way to go Vespers! You really know how to groove.

  • Sweet track, V. Super tight :)

  • great performance!
