  • What about the idea that we keep reliving the same life over and over again. Anthony Peake is a British writer who puts forward the hypothesis of Eternal Recurrence and in his books he shows how phenomena like Deja vu is us remembering the future.

As for Randi his million dollar challenge is a joke and nothing more than a publicity stunt. He rubbished Sheldrake's research on telepathy in animals and claimed he had done his own research which was untrue.

  • see my fate theory

  • The last thing she says in the video:

"If you don't understand the definition of God, you shouldn't understand the definition of free will either."

I guess she really means that both God and the soul are supernatural fictitious entities. So if (perhaps because of biology or physics) you don't believe in supernatural entities, especially not in supernatural entities that INTERVENE in the affairs of the universe -- then besides not believing in God, you should also not believe in free will.

  • I think the point she was making has more to do with trying to understand by what people mean when they call God "supernatural." It's like what they mean by "free." They mean it doesn't follow 'science' but they can't tell you what it does follow, what it is like.

  • hehe, well I was actually talking about Phoenix not the video. But after reading my comment I can see how you could have thought that.

  • donkeyjune - HAHAHA.. oops, I did read that the wrong way. Phoenix is good and bad. The weather is superb (bear in mind I'm in the Arctic every July/Aug so I miss the 120 fahrenheit weather), but the people are sometimes more shallow than East Coasters.. took me a while to get used to.

  • yargg this will be my first Arizona summer. Let us pray: Dear God, please bless this air conditioner will all your awesome grace...

  • I'll chat you from the Arctic and send you some cool "vibes". Maybe that will help!! Although, blessing your air conditioner isn't such a bad idea. Actually, you'll need to bless your wallet because electric bills get really high around here that time of year.

  • I've never been chatted from the Arctic before.

  • Gary, not only will I chat you from the Arctic.. I will VIDEO Skype you from the office tent, in my sexy little snowsuit with two layers of thermals. I hope you can handle that.

  • who is she?

did you have sex with her after the interview? she offered :/

  • I live in Phoenix! so far... a little lame here.

  • Do you really comment before you finish a video? If I think a video is lame.... SO FAR... I just turn it off. I thought Fight Club was lame too, until I got to the part where I realized how brilliant it was.

  • I only have one complaint about this video and that is she is quite wrong about her ability to speak to theists, I understood her perspective loud and clear. She needs to recalculate her pie ratios. Were not all that difficult to reach and you can consider one theory while simutaneously embracing another. She's an outside of the box kinda gal. Does she not realize this? Talk to the other half.

  • I'm not really sure what you're trying to say.. I've spoken to many theists. Family and friends and acquaintances. ???

  • I'm sorry, you just said someting like "if you're atheist or agnostic, you have hope..I don't even know how to talk to the other half" I was assuming you meant theists in regards to explaining the concept of determinism. So I got the impression that you were implying we wouldn't be able to grasp the idea but we do or can even if we don't fully embrace it. However, I could have misiterpreted the entire thing..lol...so sorry if that was the case. Either way I enjoyed the video :)

  • cymbell - LOL. Yeah, some of that kinda sounded rude on my part. Please keep in mind that I had JUST flown that day from Berlin to London to Baltimore.. then rented a car and drove to meet Gary, then I was instantly on camera! There was some jet lag involved. I just meant that it's WAY easier to explain determinism to atheists because they think along those lines to begin with. And I had NO brain power at that moment. Hell, it took me 9 minutes to even start!!! I was sooo out of it. :P

  • Its no biggie ;D I'm more envious of your journeys..lol..I'm strapped to my chair and reading glasses and bogged down with a 24 hour semester. Speaking of determinism one of our presentations is on determinism in relation to "Maggie" You're probably right. I would imagine more atheists would be able to grasp the mere concept. It is still an abstract mind set and the mainstream christian would reject the idea without a speck of consideration but I'm not mainstream lol..in case you haven't noticed

  • James Randi pointed out that Uri Geller has fooled scientists on several occasions. Randi knew the tricks of the trade and wasn't fooled. Research has shown memory isn't a steel trap. Witnesses often misremember or misinterpret events. In the "First Nat'l Determinist Meeting" vid Elaine stated, "I don't believe in any psychic abilities other than that one lady." Are you saying she didn't say that? Why does she seem insistent her memory is a perfect recording of events that happened 21 years ago?

  • No one is saying she didn't say it. The problem is that people read internet shit without the normal facetiousness filter that they would apply to a normal conversation.

  • Facetious filters would only activate in cases where the speaker was well known to the listener and previous experience indicated the filter was required. Or the speaker's message was so sarcastic that a facetious filter would obviously be necessary. Elaine seemed sincere. Elaine seemed quick to defend the lady's "psychic" powers rather than to seriously consider the skeptical possibilities I offered. Take a business communication course to see who is at fault when a message is misunderstood.

  • More to the point: Does she care what you think? I posted the video because I found it amusing. If you want to argue with every off handed comment someone makes, you can take your perceptions and shove them up your business communication course.

  • You brought the subject up again in this video. You are the one who seem obsessed with the comments I made. I thought the whole matter was over. Dropped. Now because I defend the comments I made in the other video, and remember, you are the one who brought it up again, you get snotty and accuse me of being argumentative. Obviously you are guilty of what you accuse me of. I don't care what manner of videos you make. Just don't blame me because your videos are unclear and confusing. Naturalism Org

  • In what context could it EVER be taken seriously that a person would believe that ONLY ONE SINGLE HUMAN ON EARTH has physic abilities, and the all rest are fakes? Jesus. Get a grip, pendant.

  • So I guess at this point I ought to now ask, "in what context could it EVER be taken seriously that a person would believe that ONLY ONE SINGLE HUMAN ON EARTH was God incarnate, and the all rest are fakes?" Apparently this conversation has degraded down to petty bickering. So I beg your leave sir. Take care my fellow determinist/naturalist.

  • We were having a silly conversation on our way to go drinking.. or maybe it was just after drinking.. in any case, I'm pretty sure drinking was involved. Of course I don't believe in psychic ability. But this lady sure was impressive, so I made a facetious comment "I don't believe in any psychic abilities other than that one lady." It's hilarious that she was so impressive, and that still to this day I have no explanation for it. I wish to bring joy to people with my dry humor, not bickering!

  • I was joking when I said that.

Can we really not ever say anything that isn't completely literal on youtube... ever? help!

  • Wow, you made that comment at 2:46am, according to the email I received from YouTube. I sure hope my comments haven't caused you any sleepless nights. And I would like to apologize and express my deepest regrets if such is the case. Anyway, whenever you stated, "I don't believe in any psychic abilities other than that one lady" I thought you were serious. And I realized other YouTubers might get the same impression; so I responded in an effort to offer natural explanations for your experience.

  • By the way, did you ever watch QualiaSoup's video, "The problem with anecdotes"? (watch?v=NPqerbz8KDc) He also has another I'm impressed with titled, "It *could* just be coincidence" (watch?v=98OTsYfTt-c). And have you ever watched any of the videos by Derren Brown? jenningh's "Suggested memories" (watch?v=ILIYDDESXSI) indicates your memory is not a steel trap. Bear in mind that these videos are good even if you don't believe in psychic powers. But my comments are mainly directed to believers.

  • watch?v=98OTsYfTt-c is especially good. Of course I was raised by math professors.. my dad is a statistician so he drilled certain things into our heads at a young age. My mom always said that it would be surprising if there WEREN'T coincidences, considering how many things happen at every moment to every person on the planet. :)

  • I just Favored a video from YouTube User Cugel2006 titled, Derren Brown applies the psychology of memory (EUA4Q5aoG74). I recall experiments in which pictures of Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse were placed in a lobby of a building where the experiments were to take place. Later interviews asking respondents to describe a childhood trip to Disney resulted in the memory of Bugs Bunny and Mickey standing together. Bugs Bunny is a Warner Brothers character, not Disney. Brown applied a similar technique.

  • Interesting! Oh hell, I'm sure I could think of all kinds of examples where I've gotten my wires crossed.

  • Wires crossed is an adage I've heard many times but never really thought deeply about. At 62 I can use the excuse that I had a "senior moment." My deceased cousin's widow uses the term brain fart. As in, "Whoops, pardon me but I had a brain fart!" LOL

By the way, YouTube User, richarddawkinsdotnet has a Playlist of Richard Dawkins' interviews of Derren Brown, youtube com/view_play_list?p=55A986E56B106611&playnext=1 (In case you are any reader may be interested). Thanks Elaine;-)

  • Dude, seriously. Who are you talking to? Nothing you say makes any sense. I've never bashed Germans, I'm part German. Are you simply a robot that puts random words together to waste people's time?

  • well all the parts of you that are even remotly southern should be burt to a crisp.... and your mother hade her glory hole penetrated by many objects at her family reunion and thats what lead to your birth.

  • Southern? I suppose I am if you are actually Canadian.

  • your one lame ass american piggy.... anything in the south is at least 100 years obstilete

  • Mark Twain was once accused of being Anti-Semitic. He replied that man is the lowest animal. And even though Jews are men too, he (Twain) is not any more prejudice against them than he is towards man in general. As a naturalist, I realize hosehead29's present perception developed as a result of natural processes beyond his conscious control. Still, his attitude and opinions help me come to grips as to why Twain felt the way he did. Maybe the cold North hindered blood flow to hosehead29's brain.

  • I just ate a vegearian taco. Does that count?

But wait... We talk about how great Germany is in this video. who? huh? what?

  • lol my pie made a cameo

  • HAHA. We were just showing you some love, Randy. ;)

    OK, still listening...

  • That was very surreal..

  • BTW - The most popular food in England (and the best) is Indian curry. It appears colonialism has come full circle.
