Michael Ball's acting at the end of "Little Fall of Rain" is amazing. He's trying so hard to encourage her to get well, and when he realizes she's dead, he looks so crushed. Such a believable performance in addition to being vocally great.
@Aidan702 Why would he? I don't think Marius ever met Javert, did he? It's been a few years since I saw the musical, so I might be wrong on that, though.
@skillmurt I tend to separate book!verse and musical!verse - as skillmurt said, Marius wasn't there. He makes the connection later, and was going to try and intervene to save Javert, but then he hears Valjean's gunshot and thinks it's too late. Thought you were talking strictly musical. :)

I haven't read the book yet (it's arriving next week!), but I couldn't agree more. Although it's important to try to incorporate some of the brick (after all, it IS based on the novel), it's as equally important to view the plot/characters etc in the context of the musical.
It's about the balance.

why is it eponine with marius is more interesting to watch than cossete with marius? is it just because Lea Salonga's performance is really exceptional.
@jobaytube Also because the character of Cosette was really badly written in this adaptation. After she grows up, she is granted zero personality, while Éponine is made to look more symphathetic than she was in the novel. I feel bad for Cosette.
Lea Salonga should not play Éponine :D Éponine was ugly, Lea is so pretty, when I am watching the musical, I would recommend Marius to choose Éponine rather than the ugly Cossette!
@EponineKim1 She is wonderful as Eponine! Who says she's ugly?? She had a very hard life and even though was strong and had a very big heart. You can't say she's ugly. She is amazing as Eponine.

my favourite rendition of a little fall of rain--I never thought it possible to feel so heartbroken and content at the same time.
On another note: "You at the barricade, listen to this [...]" = dream role (if only I were a dude...)

I had the opportunity to sing with Lea Salonga this past weekend (October 7-9) in Indianapolis (I was in the choir). She has such an amazing voice.
