Not entirely true, but almost entirely beside the point of the drill.
It is a bit easier to judge where a shot is going side to side when using the puck shooting machine, but it is difficult at best to judge the height of the shot. The purpose of this drill is two-fold:
1. Work on reflexes/quick hands. Most goalies will tell you, it isn't the speed of a shot that makes it hard to stop, but rather the speed of the release. The machine releases shots very fast.
Preference of the goalie. In this instance though, there is no traffic in front, so no chance of a deflection. Both these goalies use some variation of a half pad when appropriate. In many cases, it can be a more efficient save selection than a full butterfly.
these kids clearly know where the shots are going.... that's retarded.

2. The second point of the drill is to work on rebound control. Average goalies stop the puck, good goalies control the puck.
Thanks for your insightful comment, though.

@ShieldsGoaltending Ok, that makes sense. My bad. Haha, you should put that in the info though, that's a good thing to know.

There actually are a few different kinds. I will see if I can't find out what kind it is we are using, as the facility is not ours.
