In July and august there is about +20-25 deg C, but usually 13 - 15 and steady rain. Vegetables grows only in special greenhouses. All the food is imported from other regions by air in winter (and by river water during July – September) so any kind of goods are very expensive.
@nehorosshev That's not good that ordinary people cannot grow something to store for winter. Perhaps people have to hunt for wild animals and fish to supplement their diet. I would imagine there is a high level of ownership of shotguns/hunting rifles for this purpose
This must be the most depressing city in the world. Coldest city, one of the most polluted and with an architecture that makes every 60s politician jizz in their pants. That's why I want to visit it!
@kazimann those are people who make places depressing-one may be depressed in Paris, but happy at remoute station in Antarctida-if you ask any English speaking person WHO are the most depresing people-they would say - Irish-so, no surprise about your question-depression is problem of yours, not of Norilsk, which is awesome if to think where it is situated and how big it is at this latitude-there are no other such precedents in the world- in NorthAmerica they got tiny villages at such latitudes
@Ura293 The Irish are the most depressing people? That's laughable! Have you ever been to Ireland? Go to Temple Bar in Dublin city on a Saturday night and you'll be hard pressed to find any 'depression' there.
my father used to work in Norilsk, his company (from Croatia) built several of biggest buuldings in town
it was i think from 1986-1990 or something like this
he talked about city a lot, but most of talks were about how people are friendly, and like to drink in every social occasion
I recognised the city name today reading about most poluted places in the world, he did mention some huge factory there, but I had no idea is was that bad
Incredible place; what year was this taken? and in what month? Just looks quite deserted doesnt it? Are there shopping precincts? And nightclubs, etc??
Video was made occasionally in december 2006 (by cheap photocamera :-) By the way it was midday, so you can see here real "polar night", when there is no sun at all during few winter months. December and January temperature usually falls to -55 degr C (-67 degr F). Industrial outskirts is shown, so in the center of the city there is some shopping, theaters and clubs of course.
Norilsk. Well it doesn't look like the most fantastic place to live in the world it must be said. But the mere fact that it is out in the middle of northernmost Siberia and is CLOSED to foreigners makes it an attractive destination for the more adventurous traveller. Not that there would be a lot there for them I fear. I'd like to go but for several reasons I prob won't, one of them being I can't speak Russian. Probably too cold for me too. In Ireland we love our mild temperatures.:P
Norilsk is considered as the fourht most polluted city in the world. It`s hard for me to understand how can people be "kind, cheerful and very sympathetic" in this freezing wasteland
Whether most of all I am am amazed with people which ask there is at us there an Internet, news, cars and whether we live with bears?! Children, there are ALL. There there are night clubs, cinemas, the bars, expensive restaurants, bowling, cars, the Internet and all all all that is in any other city and with bears we do not live, but they is not far from a city:)
Novosibirsk - though also Siberia but temperatures here small. Norilsk is an especial place who there did not live, that never will understand in what feature of this city, and to explain it difficult.
В норильске есть большой горно-обогатительный комбинат, который очень загрязняет воздух в городе, помимо этого там еще и холодно постоянно, практически нет лета, очень далеко от остальной россии...
i love siberian tundra and taiga, and i feel bad for norilsk..people dying here from cancer and other dises..the forest near norilsk is dead..ecological is here a katastrophe...WAKE UP and stop that.
To give you an idea polluted water and air make life expectancy in this city around just 40 years. Within 30 miles of the city, there is not a single living tree.Average temperature is about 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 Celcius). The city is covered with snow for about 250-270 days a year, with snow storms for about 110-130 days
I like Norilsk! You can feel the elements, you can look at the horizon, and knowing that hundreds of thousands of miles around there is nobody - only tundra. The polar lights, polar night, polar day in summer, aromas that surround you in the tundra (away from the plant and the city), all these numerous lakes, rivers, hills, mountains...
don' t worry just came in Canada and you 'll se how ofull are all the cities , and the house are just in wood and paer and burn in 2 minutes they are not able to build such a town in north In for ex Calgary is what wok-sleep-work thats all! and polution too so Norilsk is not the only town sad on the planet
It´s a nice video. I´m not russian but it{s makes me have a lot of melancholy and a bit sad for the people who were forced to live there. It´s like another world, another civilization, a zombies city, just a place to work ! from home to work and work to home, worst than dead, in the middle of nobody, cold, polution and snow almost every year :O. ... I guess they even have not access to media in soviet times. I repeat I´m sad for the people there, they live worst than animals.
I was born and have grown in Norilsk. As everything was not strange at us, we what never to itself refused, even in heavy 80-90 years we had ALL. Believe all children there live better animals. I consider, I had the happiest childhood which only can be. At us all that was necessary for the child. Coldly speak? Gaza is a lot of? So same also there is a city highlight. I have left from Norilsk 4 years ago. Now I live in Novosibirsk. Here very much there is no gas and frosts.
Norilsk, well inside the Arctic Circle, one of the coldest and polluted cities in the world. The music is Pink Floyd"One of these days"from the album "Meddle"
You guys don't even know what norilsk is. norilisk is one of the most polluted place around the world. It used to be a slave labour camp. Living there is like a death sentence. Infact, its closed to all public from outside countries.
Living in Norilsk is not as exciting as you think. It is very cold, gloomy, and generally unpleasant.
However, like one of gusgorilla76 said peole from Norilsk used to be a real contrast to how th place looks and feels. Rough environment brought out the best in people.
Not anymore, from what I've heard that generation is almost out of Norilsk, and now more people are vicious an gloomy like the place itself.
"The city is covered with snow for about 250-270 days a year, with snow storms for about 110-130 days. The polar night lasts from December through mid-January, so that Norilsk inhabitants do not see the sun at all for about six weeks.

Fascinating to see this place after hearing so much about it. I once went out with a girl from Norilsk and her beauty and gentleness was an amazing contrast to this bleak, industrial and cold city. toy2day, the music is "One of These Days" from Pink Floyd's "Meddle" Album.

-33C, pero aqui en norilsk -55C es una locura.
igual me gustaria visitar norilsk, tengo un compañero ruso de universidad, le preguntare mas sobre su pais.
