  • 10 peoples were laughing at this video. . .

  • Ever sat through a lecture on CAG repeats and its relationship on dynamic mutations such as Huntington's SCA? Of course you haven't because you would appreciate a "break" in lecture to see cute mice fall off a wheel.

  • i just watch 1 Litre of Tears... and so i research spinocerebellar degenaration disease.... and its not funny.. even in animals.... ;(

  • Lectures, particularly in a field of science, can be quite dry and students will react more readily to a rat falling off a rotating beam in slow motion...its funny and cute. Obviously spinocerebellar ataxia isn't funny and cute. Christ - some of you need to get over yourselves particularly those that thumbed up skanemermai's silly comment

  • @Davesimo1 it's cute to see a mouse falling off of a beam because his cerebellum is deteriorating? i wonder how cute and funny it is to see a 15 month old stumble around because he has a degenerative brain disorder. no matter how dry a lecture is, the situation is sad. i totally agree with skanemermaid

  • @EatSleepGlee firstly i have said that SCA is clearly NOT funny. Also i'm almost certain nobody in that room had SCA. They were students. I'm sure they were also unaware at the time that the video would be posted on YT and be seen by people with SCA or who know someone that does. So should medical or biomedical students be morosely wandering through their lives being sad about everything they ever do? Being offended does not grant your opinion any special considerations. It's still moronic

  • @Davesimo1 who's talking about them walking through life being sad? we're talking about their reactions to this video, not being solemn their entire lives because they are students. that's nonsense. more important, how are you equating tact to morosity. THAT'S moronic. we're talking about their reactions to THIS video. i never said you claimed SCA was funny. within the context of the subject matter, laughing at someone (human/nonhuman) afflicted with SCA fall isn't an appropriate response.

  • @EatSleepGlee Sorry are we talking about them being "f-ing numb" or lacking in a little tact? Either way their response is not inappropriate. I'm afraid you're the one whos taken the reaction way out of context. This is a lecture hall not a room full of patients. Every single thing biomed students learn about involves a health problem that affects peoples lives. Thats my point. I found this vid for revision purposes and it angered me to see such a ridiculous statement getting so much support.

  • people are laughing at the MOUSE not staying on the rotarod i fail to see how that is remotely the same thing as laughing at people with spinocerebellar ataxia given that rotarod isn't confined to testing motor function in that disease.

  • Hi,

    I'm doing a Bio project,

I'm using and cited this video.

    Thanks.

  • Ermmm, i think they are laughing at the cute little mice, how it falls... nothing to do with the disease.

  • Yeah, I'm sure everyone complaining about the laughing never themself have laughed at someone geting hurt in a stupid way. They're aware of the terrible condition that is Ataxia but I can't blame them for laughing at the cute, funny, desperate mouse.

  • These people are laughing at the way the mouse fell, being all cute and adorable in that slo-mo. They aren't laughing at the fact that the mouse has ataxia. Granted it's not that funny, but geez people, loosen up. I know ataxia is a terrible disease, but that doesn't mean people who research on possible cure has to be depressed and gloomy all the time.

  • laughing? unbelievable.

  • wow these doctors..are very rude! even for a mouse, they need to respect it just like they respect those who are human and sick.

  • @PowerGenerator1 callate hippie !!!

  • I can't believe the level of ignorance in the room!! Even the lecturer found it amusing!!

My son has advanced SCA type 17, should we all have a good laugh when he stumbles and falls!???

  • The people laughing at that mouse deserve an instant cerebellar stroke. So maybe they will notice that spinocerebellar ataxia isn't funny at all.

  • How can someone actually LAUGH at something like this?!

    It also makes me angry.

I would've kicked their disgusting buds!!

I also know aya kito's story and I absolutely can't understand how this is considered to be funny!!

I feel sorry for that mouse. I can't even agree with testing rducts on mice, but it seems like there's really no better choice..

Still makes me sad thinking like this.

...If i ever meet a moron laughing about this I SWEAR i won't bear with him..!

  • This is not funny

  • wasnt laughing you moron..hense the idiots part!!!!!!!!!!? name one..just one other species that tortures another for its own benefit!!!!!!!!!!!!!...thats what i tought

  • What the heck is this? If I was the woman talking about the mice I would yell at these idiots laughing. I'm being serious that pisses me off!!

Use them as the experiment and inject them with the disease. Then who will be laughing? Gosh....unbelievable!

  • @animelover823 yea i know it's sad, watched ichi rittoru, but maybe it's just a crowd's reaction...mm no need to get upset

  • the world is bad

  • ha ha they gave a mouse a disease and now his motor functions are gone...how funny.....IDIOTS!!!

  • there was a girl called Aya Kito she was 14 and diagnosed with the disease that funny mouse has. she was reduced to crwling when she could longer walk, eating food put her life in danger, she could never make it to the toilet and she was outcast ny many people. i guess you find tht pretty funny too huh? well if you can read her diary, watch the tv dram made about her or the film first i can garantee the next time you see this clip you won't think it's funny.

  • I agree wth storrisi45--it's nothing to be laughed at, but without the mice, the doctors would have no choice but to do these tests on real humans.

  • poor mouse T_T

  • I felt sorry to the rat T_T

  • so sad that people can laugh at the mouse... what if the one's who are laughing are future doctors? how serious are they if they have a patient that have the same disease like the mouse? sometimes humans are heartless...

  • i know!

  • i agree aya kito had that diseas and was treated badly, people assumed becuase she walked funny or eventually because she talked funny, that she was stupid and mental. she had a perfect mind trapped in a body she couldnt control for 9 years.

  • @phantomays

They ARE future doctors/neurologists in the audience. This is Dr. Huda Zoghbi giving a lecture to students The entire lecture is pretty good (it is 2-3 hours).

I have SCA1 (this disease), and cannot walk/speak very well. But I even chuckled a bit at that poor mouse. Laughter is one way we deal with this disease. She says later, that treatments are promising soon.

  • i hope that there is a cure or that thhey find one im intrested in this but afraid of it

  • Uhhhh...How the F*** is that funny at ALL???

I feel so bad for the mouse that they were making fun of...geez...

  • wtf's so funny? people are so cruel.

  • how is that funny?

they think that the poor little mouse's life is nothing compare to ours?

    how cruel and heartless!

  • not funny at all. this is a serious technique used in neurology labs for comparing motor activity, motor coordination, and stamina of different mice models ("normal", huntington, SCA, etc) and it's the best way to do so without harming any test subjects... although there's better way of picking up mice than by its tail. when i pick up my pet gerbil, i scoop it up with my hand rather than pick it up and let it hang from my fingers

  • Yuck, the laughter was disgusting. I wonder how any people in the room who have spinocerebellar ataxia must have felt.

I admire the research, but God people are f-ing numb.

  • why the hell are they laughing? O_O

  • I also wondered...

    It wasnt so funny :\

  • @mlor023 Experiments are never funny. That's why we don't do "direct" experiments on humans.

  • who the fuck is laughing? What the fuck is their problem? Spinocerebellar degeneration disease is one of the worst thing sthat can ever happen to anyone, be it a mice or human. It's not a laughing matter.

  • I don't understand! Can't stem cell research also help reverse SCD

  • No this is not funny at all I know a person who has ataxia and its a crual disease I just hope they find a cure soon I really do.

  • Yeah, it's not funny at all. :((.

  • It's not funny at all. :(

  • It's not funny anymore once they have it.

  • this is animal abuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • it isn't really animal abuse even though this disease is a cruel disease...

  • the stupid ppl keep laughing at the mice

the mice is such a poor thing..

  • I guess they're laughing at the mouse....it's not funny, though...I guess they just don't understand until they deal with it.

  • fcking ppl shouldnt be laughing i saw this movie and drama about this it was soooo sad

  • not funny at all!!

  • okay...that was soo not funny -_-

  • so not damn funny!! its sad not funny!!

  • Seriously. Not funny at all, mofos.

  • Seriously. Not funny at all, mofos.

  • =( is not funny

  • it's funny cuz it's cute and stupid.

  • the audience is probably laughing because the mouse fell , its called sense of humor. and anyways the video is actually useful.

  • what is soo funny.?.

  • yeah why are they laughing????

  • Why is the audience laughing? They're so cruel. Spinocerebellar ataxia is a very serious matter.
