you're talking about banks as money holders - banks as funds. let more altruistic institutions hold the funds and they won't find it profitable to cause instability in the economy, because when the banks gave funds to some homeowners they knew wouldn't be able to pay them back, and they used insidious contracts to drive up interest on their loans, and this caused rises in the prices of homes which speculators profited on. we have the option to use or not use bankers as our primary money holders.

What about foreclosures? There should have been a suspension of banks' ability to foreclose on someone's mortgage. If this was put into the economic stimulus plan which was passed, more people would still be in their homes. Find some other incentive for those who still have jobs to make payments (like making payments tax deductible up to a specific value).

Making the full value of the payments go to principle (and not interest) for a time would be a slap in the face of bank exec's bonuses.

on your first point Imposing tarrifs is nothing new and therefore wouldn't be change. They have been tried and tested and don't work to create more goods and services but tend to resist it(i'm thinking of fish tarrifs in Scotland for my example in fact jobs were cut due to the tariffs) You seem to be completely forgetting what the global market is and how it works. An Economy that is limited to custom inside the United States has no prospect of reasonable growth and is not sustainable.
