Marvin Gaye would not record in the same studio with Diane!
'Ain't No Mountain High Enough" remains and will always be MARVIN GAYE & TAMMY TERRELL's signature song, the fact that Motown Berry Gordy at this point was willing to put in jeopardy Motown for the superstardom of his "sex muse starlet Diane Ross did not rubbed Marvin or any Motown artist well, including THE SUPREMES (Jean Terrell, Lynda Laurence) who decided to leave when it became obvious THE SUPREMES have become spendable as they did
Marvin Gaye didn't even want to record with Diana Ross, because at the time, when Diana was riding high from "Lady Sings the Blues", Marvin felt that he was being ignored by Berry and by Motown-
I went to one of Diana's concerts in the eighties not expecting all that much but ended up being blown away by her show. She does not have a technically great voice but she is an excellent musician in how she uses it and she knows how to command a stage and interpret a song.
It's about listenability, not chops. Diana had a lovely, lithesome voice, natural phrasing and was sooooo sexy sounding. Keep your Whitneys and other histrionics and I'll keep this
Diana Ross ! sang with greatest male vocalist ever! she was the soft ,weak sound and the guys , Very strong and very POWERFUL! Voices!! David Ruffin blows her out the water,Tempts and Diana,i'm losing you, Marvin Gaye on anything with them together,Lionel Ritchie. To be truthful all the other Motown female artist coulnd sing circles around Diana! Gladys knight, Marvelletes, Martha reeves, Tammi terrell, Mary wells, Kim weston, velvelletes, Syretta wright..Florence ballad.. Diana had presence!
the chemistry is here, indeed...Diana solo, on the other hand, was a limited singer...with great promotion from the corporate machine...Gladys Knight and Martha Reeves could sing rings around her though....just my opinion, however...

Bad record by two greats.
Marvin sings against her......not to her as all great duets should be.
Listen to Marvin & Ms Tammi or with Kim Weston, you'll know what I mean.
Hatin' on Diana for being such a prissy by the late Prince of Soul.
