@brightlights456X red dragon and silence of the lambs are absolute classics but hannibal and hannibal rising are definitely not as good. i was cerainly disappointed. so if you were going to read any, i'd recommend the first two.
The facial expression Hector makes while beating the shit out of a guard is exceptional. It shows the release of agony accumulated from his imprisonment, contempt for the guards for holding him, joy of freedom he has now secured, fun from the reversal of the positions, and pure sadistic pleasure. One of the most brilliant countenances in movie history.
The best film ever. Everytime I watch this scene, my heart begins to beat faster and faster, you know what will happen, but still it's like you're watching it for the first time and it surprises you, it's brutal yet captivating. Dr Lecter, his face is menacing, the brutality he uses and the pleasure is there to see as he bludgeons Pembrys head!
Such evil, yet so calm and collective, I LOVE HIM!
The Goldberg Variations, firstly the Aria, then the 7th Variation, by J. S. Bach (Lecter loves this piece, he listens to it several times throughout the books as well as the movies) : )
The real part that got me was the look on his face after he bit the guys face and was killing Lt. Boyle and then went after Sgt. Pembry so casually after what he did to him, More proof that Hopkins is a great #$%$%^ actor LOL
This scene and the ones after it where it explains the rest of his actions to escape is simply GENIOUS! It makes me wonder what goes on in the head of the writer.
@jessehardy Thomas Harris was asked by a reporter in an interview he gave in the 1980's roughly what you have just said yourself. Along the lines of "Does it take a monster to know one?" And guess what? He did not answer the question and has not did an interview since.......Whether the reporter is still alive, I could not say lol
Throughout the film Hopkins came across as so intelligent, sophisticated, and gentlemanly that you ask yourself "what is HE doing in THERE?" You forget the horrible crimes the characters describe because he is so charming and engrossing. Then this scene totally jolts you and you see the true monster that lurks beneath. You never know who is next to you on the bus.
Genuinely horrifying scene. Sense of dread and impending violence is almost unbearable. I think the movie would make my all-time top 5. But then again, there are so many great movies that to narrow it down to five would be impossible
@limwang75 This "moive" is not fake. People with mental illnesses are not executed or put into prisons. Acctually do think about your comment before writing it.
Yoh, he is magic, ey? He's the perfect villain, so chilled with what he does. If someone is infinately faster than him, it's like no stress cuz he's a ninja. He everywhere!
Hear the way he was breathing when he was smashing the guard with the knight stick? You could tell he was letting out his withdrawls of not killing for so long.
bacsilly oh well calyspo has returned well its geeral warthog the hog for the flesh well cna lte you at so here is your dakrest fish cant survie them bun in ell forever ty for playing twisted metla 2 .. hope you had a fun ride.. bye bye anhtong hopkins hope hell will be a good palce for
@TheSimmus the guard was probably right handed and his right hand was chained to to the bar. plus the shock would have clouded his judgement (thats what i think)
why was jimmy just standing there not fighting back. yes the cage door hit u in the face. u fall back not stand there. someone bites ur face and u stand there. lector sprays you with mace and u stand there. WTF why are u STANDING THERE.
@heyitshorse One guard got handcuffed to the bars, the other one got got off-guard and took a can of mace to the face. It's no wonder Hannibal won, under those circumstances.
@37yen Yup, you can easily follow the mistakes they made: Boyle puts the tray on the floor when he should've handed it to Pembry - drew him too close to Hannibal. Pembry, around 2:20 is standing around TOO casually after pulling the key out of the lock, he should've been MUCH more alert & watching Hannibal the entire time. Both men had little respect for the mad genius they were dealing with.
@tommyt1971 ... quite right ! Barney held Hannibal for 6 years and never made a mistake. (Thre nurse incident happened when Barney was off duty) These two managed - nearly - 3 days. Barney told Dr. Chilton what would happen. When Dr. Chilton mentioned the transfer to Hannibal, the latter realized immediately he would be able to escape. "The police are used to criminals," Hannibal tought to himself, "they're not as smart as Barney."
@oceanchick101 They never thought he had a means to escape his Cuffs, in Truth I blame Chilton for all those who were killed by Lecter when he mad his escape (Ironic since he broke the one rule that he told Starling never to break and thats bringing anything and I mean anything with you when your speaking to him especially in his Bloody #@##$% cell for goodness sake) Who else Agrees with me
This part scared the shit out of me. Imagine if you were that guard. You don't know what a man like Lecter is capable of or what he's going to do to you.
Interesting, the music seems to help him focus and maintain a relaxed composure while pick-locking the cuffs, and evidently after dispatching of the officers.
i remember thinking this was the badest most awesomest movie ever till my mom told me hes real then she had her bf dress up like him and scare me at 3 am what great parents i have ey?
@juggalettetillidie1 As long as you realize he isnt real.. the real Hannibal wasnt a cannibal like this but an Ancient ruler of the Cathanigian empire way back when.
This psychiatrist had dealt with many psychopaths. None were intelligent ,sophisticated, urbane and droll. For reality, look at Early Grace(Brad Pitt in ''Kalifornia'') and the Knoxxes(''Natural Born Killers'') and even Glenn Close's character in ''Fatal Attraction.'' The world,he maintained, would be a far more dangerous place if guys like Lecter actually existed. Real ones commit atrocities out of simple need, ignoring who might be in the way. Early kills a guy to get money for gas. Nothing fancy.
Wonderful movie and Hopkins is great;however, when ''Red Dragon'',the remake of ''Manhunter', was released,I think in 2001 or 2002,our local paper ran a story on an interview with a local forensic psychiatrist(I live in Halifax,Nova Scotia,Canada) who knew, obviously, what psychopaths and sociopaths were really like. Lecter,he pointed out,is pure fantasy. Such killers don't really exist. The real ones,he countered, were like Brad PItt's Early Grace, from ''Kalifornia,'' motivated by need, not madness.
You'd think a cannibalistic madman who is a complete genius would at the very LEAST be under constant camera surveillance. And, just a question, how did he get that pen when he was completely restrained when Dr. Chilton dropped it?
@blodbotina I honestly hope you're joking. Hopkins' performance as Lecter is unmatched and just because your half-wit brain can't comprehend that doesn't mean you should complain about it.

Thanks for posting the single most laughable escape scene in the history of film making. Why people still value this pathetic movie is beyond me... And this guy being a good actor? Not that he has the same stupid facial expression throughout the whole movie, but his whole shitty career as well.
@TheFaisalano I'd rather watch a slasher than this quasi-intelligent excuse of a movie. This movie's targetted audience are 15 year olds, they ought to be enthralled by this sick character Hannibal Lecter.
@Gitts96 Oh I guess it's a part of his whole "weird" career then too? Or is he just a fat shitty actor. Especially in that film where he lives with gorillas and has "supernatural" strength and stuff, I hate that one the most...
He's an incredible actor in my eyes and many others, I don't think you could've got a better actor for this film in my opinion! But hey think what you want, he's done pretty well seeing as he's a ''shitty actor'', being a famous millionaire and all that! If that's all it takes to get a star role in a film then why don't you give that a go and see if you can get as far as he has with his career (Y)
@blodbotina jesus. did you really go online on youtube and search hannibal lecter just so you could type these cruel things in. and hopkins is not fat. hes just small. and he is not a bad actor. thats just you who cant get it thru your head that not every single villan is supposed to be a skinny guy with 8packs. thats just a slasher. this movie is about sociopathic and psychopathic people.. and lecter is a carrecter who is supposed to be gentile and has a good manar. hopkins is perfect for this
I would love for the filmmakers to admit to the existence of that deleted scene where the guards all sit in the back room and draw straws to see who has to bring Lecter his dinner.
Hannibal Lectar. Not even 20 minutes on screen the entire movie and is terrified of by everyone. That is great acting. Anthony Hopkins was the perfect choice
@029Mhelz Remember earlier on when the psychiatrist is telling Dr. Lecter that he's been tricked and that there was no offer. The camera focuses quickly on the pen and then the psychiatrist later can't find his pen. I wondered at the time what the significance of that was and it was probably that he took something out of it to conceal it in his throat.
Conquer your fears and scroll the fuck up again!

Thanks for posting the single most laughable escape scene in the history of film making. Why people still value this pathetic movie is beyond me... And this guy being a good actor? Not that he has the same stupid facial expression throughout the whole movie, but his whole shitty career as well.

@blodbotina Go back too watching you're lame ass predictable slashers.
TheFaisalano 7 months ago
@TheFaisalano I'd rather watch a slasher than this quasi-intelligent excuse of a movie. This movie's targetted audience are 15 year olds, they ought to be enthralled by this sick character Hannibal Lecter.
lmao

@blodbotina Let me tell you, how many horror movies have such a unique villian?
TheFaisalano 7 months ago
@TheFaisalano Scream has a pretty unique villain as well, and it sucks.. I don't see a problem here. In fact, this is even worse.. much worse

@blodbotina
he's supposed to have the same facial expression, its part of the weird part he plays in this film.
Gitts96 7 months ago
@Gitts96 Oh I guess it's a part of his whole "weird" career then too? Or is he just a fat shitty actor. Especially in that film where he lives with gorillas and has "supernatural" strength and stuff, I hate that one the most...

@blodbotina

@Gitts96 Sure I will, I'll let you know when I get famous

How was he able to hide that thing on his mouth?!
029Mhelz 7 months ago
@029Mhelz Remember earlier on when the psychiatrist is telling Dr. Lecter that he's been tricked and that there was no offer. The camera focuses quickly on the pen and then the psychiatrist later can't find his pen. I wondered at the time what the significance of that was and it was probably that he took something out of it to conceal it in his throat.
