Oh God, They really made her say "beez" and "theyz" and "pacifics"?
Also, she sounds like one of the white male developers tried doing his best (read: worst) Sassy Black Woman(tm) impression with a dash of minstrel show-style c**nery.
@Fankas2000 there can be it's just her dialect, like, why? Why sound like a slave, what was the point? do you know any poor black ppl that sound like a slave cuz i don't....
@Fankas2000 and its not even an African-american woman speaking! wtf kinda shit is that!? did ju honestly think that that was okay? i'm not heated at you but at the fact that it's not even a woman voicing the character, smh so fuckin pisst rite now....
Okay i've read like a million comments on this and i now have an opinion. I know what the problem is here.... Adam isn't black. If he was black and the hero that would be okay. What black people here are saying is that they want to be the hero for a change, it's not enough that they dominate in nearly every sport and they are top the charts as some of the most highest paid actors and singers/performers... nope that's not enough they even want the lead roles in video games. I dont blame them.
@MrTSquared Yes, because EVERYTHING is racist against blacks. Hey, how come you don't point out the Chinese in the game always call Adam gwailo, which is about the same as calling him "whitey". Or Sanders and others saying chink or spics. Or how about Adam once telling a Chinese that they all look alike. How come you're not crying a river that could be construed as racism?
If it's true, it's not racist. Call a spade a spade. Stereotypes had to come from somewhere. Get over it.
@FortitudeOfHeaven Don't be daft fortitude. 1) We're talking about Laetitia in this case 2) you can't be racist against white people. When are white people going to understand this? You whites have institutional power over every single race on the planet. Of course those other moments where the white person (Adam, Sanders) insults other races IS RACIST. Christ, it's assholes like you that perpetuate racial stereotypes and allow racism to live on to this day
@MrTSquared Did you hear that everyone? This asshole, believes you can't possibly be racist against white people. Hate crimes against whites, even if it explicitly included racial epithets, don't exist according to him. A great number of blacks don't know the definition of racism and define racism ONLY as discrimination against blacks. They even often use racial slurs in the same sentence against who he accuses of being racist. Please use a dictionary and stop being a racemonger.
@FortitudeOfHeaven LOL, reverse racism is a whole lot of baloney. White people have every single advantage in the world. I'm not a racemonger, but stop being such a dumb whitey.
@MrTSquared And just for the record, it's so ironic you have the nerve to call me dumb. Considering your average IQ is ~70-85, practically retards. My people invented the telephone, light bulb, automobile, the airplane, and even...the computer you're writing on! Meanwhile your people ancestral land is still in the stone age.
@FortitudeOfHeaven "my people" really? What gives your low life scum the right to act as if you deserve even the tiniest fraction of credit for what those people invented? You must be really pathetic in life if all you've got to say for yourself is that you happen to have the same skin color as some great inventors.
Hell, all you're proving is that you were given a lot more oppertunities and still amounted to nothing.
Oh, and for the record: That dumbass who believed genetics predisposes everything is still coming to terms with back-tracking on his stance in private messages.
@dsbnh Are you so butthurt by my private messages that you had to go whine in comments again? Truly amusing, continue. Show everyone how much of an egotistical child you are.
@Vengrence Butthurt? That is awfully silly of you to say. You sound like some 13 year-old on World of Warcraft. I can't imagine what I would be "butthurt" about. Hey, now that you're here: Look down the comments and see if you can spot where you declare that all behavior is predisposed by genetics! *eagerly awaits some comeback about my belief in 'magic' or some such nonsense*
Yes, their correctness is very obvious to you, you arrogant fuck. Obviously they're going to be obvious to the person CLAIMING THEM. Religious people claim their beliefs are obvious too. Are you some kind of zealot? Oh hohohohoho, now you're a physics student. This is good. Are you also 7 feet tall and have an IQ of 36251? You don't speak like a physics student whatsoever, you speak like a deranged religious nutcase who's escaped from the penitentiary. You're an affront to logic itself.
Racist my arse. There are actual people in this world who talk and act like that, and believe it or not some of them happen to be black. Sure, if all the black characters in the game acted like that, it'd be pretty damn racist. But they don't. What's next, calling developers sexist because they dared to make a game in which a woman uses a cooker? Fuck off.
@ThePsychoToaster Are you too intellectually bankrupt to see how this is simply a stereotype? I am sure there are is someone out there who is just like this, it doesn't stop it from being a stereotype when one of the few black characters in the game talks exactly like a well-known cartoonish depiction of black people. Let's stop with the excuses. I am sick of seeing this type of rationalization from people too uncomfortable with touching on the topic.
@ThePsychoToaster To be able to acknowledge that it is a stereotype, yet not see how it is racist, displays a tremendous amount of cognitive dissonance. A stereotype is a simplified and standardized conception of a group. The group being simplified here have traditionally been African Americans, and this simplification is based entirely on that perception.
I am sure you know a diverse group who speak like that, but you completely missed the point. Perhaps due to some more cognitive dissonance.
@ThePsychoToaster I don't need to guess. Everything I described in that second post is evident in your own posts. Claiming something isn't racist while agreeing that it is a stereotype (which can only be based on race in this case, if we're being intellectually honest) is the epitome of cognitive dissonance.
Someone pointed out that you didn't think things through and arrived at a contradiction as a result. Learn from the experience and realize your mistake rather than fight about it.
@dsbnh But my whole point was that just because it's a stereotype doesn't mean it's inherently offensive. Stop looking at this in such a black and white fashion. Groundskeeper Wullie from The Simpsons is incredibly stereotypical, but I'm Scottish and couldn't give less of a shit. I think the character is hilarious.
@ThePsychoToaster Actually, the fact it is a stereotype does mean it is inherently offensive. That is, unless you're so clueless as to the harm that stereotypes cause that you just don't see it. It is a black and white issue and I don't appreciate this idea of those of us bothered by it as simply being uptight. The fact that you, as a privileged white male, find a stereotype concerning your people inoffensive in no way invalidates the harm stereotypes cause. Congratulations, you have..
@ThePsychoToaster ... the luxury to ignore this in regards to The Simpsons because it is unlikely you will be discriminated against IN SCOTLAND for being a White SCOTTISH male. Some people actually have to deal with the negative consequences of reenforcing stereotypes like this one on a regular basis. The best part is the people who think they aren't affected by it.
@ThePsychoToaster Oh, and if you have suffered some discrimination for being a white Scottish male, then you shouldn't have a hard time seeing how negative stereotypes have a harmful impact on our real lives.
@ThePsychoToaster By the way, your initial point was that it was not racist. Even if it were the case that not all stereotypes are inherently offensive (they are), it is still clear that this is racist due to the nature of the portrayal. This is offensive regardless of whether stereotypes are inherently offensive or not, so let's not change the topic. Many try to argue this stereotype has nothing to do with negative perceptions of a group of people in order to be able to defend it. Ridiculous.
@sirhelmet I would be offended (as they are inherently offensive), although I doubt I would as angry given the hardships faced by one group are not nearly as tremendous as the hardships faced by another (this) group. Are we pretending white privileged doesn't exist at every point? Are we pretending this isn't the case and that claiming otherwise makes one a hypocrite? That is utterly idiotic, but a typical talking point against anyone who speaks out on the subject.
@Vengrence Not being sarcastic at all. The points are salient and I am surprised you dismiss them given your stated interests in your profile. You'd think someone interested in philosophy would care about a conversation concerning race issues and the ethical questions surrounding it. Or at least not dismiss such concerns as "whining". Then again, some people merely claim to be interested in such things because it makes them look intelligent. Perhaps you are one... Who knows?
@Vengrence Perhaps your reaction should instead be: "Maybe caring about these things doesn't make someone a dumb fool after all. If an intelligent, articulate person can care about them, then perhaps there is some truth to them." Although, honestly, I'd prefer it if you simply had the intelligence to see the truth in the points themselves rather than through your opinions of the person presenting them. It is sad that you think these points are dumb. Here's hoping you educate yourself a bit.
@Vengrence Please stop. This comment reads like your typical comment from someone whose ego has apparently been bruised. I told you to go educate yourself once. I didn't repeat myself and I am certainly not projecting. I misjudged you. You're not a particularly intelligent person, as evidenced by the fact that you saw my post as a challenge rather than a recommendation in good faith. You have presented no counter-points and simply dismissed these serious points about race as "amusing". Go away.
@dsbnh Alright, now I'm sure you're trolling. If you call your obviously humorous statements as serious, what else can you be?
"given the hardships faced by one group are not nearly as tremendous as the hardships faced by another (this) group"
Anyone who makes such a statement is obviously joking. Collective group hardships make no sense. If no hardships have happened to you personally, I don't care if you feel sorry for yourself because centuries ago, something happened to some random guy.
@Vengrence Collective group hardships make no sense? Why? Now I know that those interests listed in your profile are merely for show. Collective group hardships are experienced by minority groups of all types all over the world on a regular basis. This is so obvious I hardly know where to begin to educate you on the subject. I also enjoy the whiff of a just-world fallacy coming off your posts.
That comment you just made is the most ignorant thing I've ever read and you should be embarrassed.
@dsbnh You're a very funny guy. Alright, I demand reparations for the murders, rapes, muggings, and other assorted crimes "minority groups" committed against my people. Pay up, I don't have all day.
@Vengrence You're attacking a straw man. Discrimination based on race, gender and sexual orientation takes place in our society. These are collective hardships for the groups being discriminated against. How you equate a desire for such things to stop with demands for reparations I will never know. The demand/goal is that it stops happening. Period. Being mugged is not a group hardship, for it probably didn't happen to you because you belong to any particular group. Think before you write.
@Vengrence Oh God! I just saw the videos you've added to your Favorites. You apparently have some silly views on race/politics and I know enough not to argue with someone like that. Previously I merely glanced at your profile and thought "This is someone who probably isn't very familiar with this stuff, but can be reasoned with." Your recent posts made me curious, so I checked. It seems you already have some pretty strong, malformed views on this subject. I am sorry I wasted my time trying.
@dsbnh You can't respond to my query so you go off on a tangent? You believe in the concept of collective hardships, punishments, etc. As such, I am liable for reparations everytime anything bad happens to anyone sharing my genotype, right? I do find it amusing that you think anyone who doesn't follow your view of politics and life is wrong. Narrow-minded much? I suppose it makes sense, people like you are usually zealots, just not the religious type. Throwing around bigot like the word heretic.
@Vengrence I knew you'd accuse me of dodging the question. Read both responses again. I responded to your silly query on the first one. The concept of collective hardships is not as you describe it. At least, no definition I am familiar with applies it to all instances of suffering. It refers to any group suffering due to their membership in said group. Of course it sounds ridiculous in your interpretation, you've conveniently picked a ridiculous interpretation. Yes, you are wrong.
@Vengrence In regards to my "tangent": You miss the point. The things you believe are so warped, and you believe them so deeply, that there is no point in engaging you in this discussion. You won't listen. You will change the meaning of things and apply them universally so as to not deal with the real points made. You will expect others to question their points while giving no real reasons to, and never question your own. That is no way to have a discussion, so I have to walk away. Sorry.
@dsbnh That is extraordinarily ironic of you to say. Literally, everything you said, can be said right back to you. This is the 21st century, this is not the 17 or 18th century where people are enslaved. The more you keep focusing on imaginary issues, the more you keep us in the mindset of centuries ago. Congratulations, you do more to harm your supposed cause than anyone.
@Vengrence None of those things can be said right back to me by anyone who is even remotely grounded in reality. Of course, if you aren't grounded in reality and think discrimination doesn't exist in the modern age then you could say every single one of those things back to me. I've done no harm to "my cause". I enjoyed your attempt to redefine 'collective hardship' to such an absurd thing. Also, I never claimed you were liable for reparations. That is something you made up. Have a nice day!
@dsbnh Pray tell, where is this so called discrimination that we have in modern times? Welfare checks? Affirmative action?(which itself is literal racism as you're separating people in racial groups and giving benefits to one but not the other). Or is it alright if it's discrimination against whites?
@Vengrence I think you are so out of your fucking mind that nothing I could possibly say could answer that question to your satisfaction. Let's say I point out that, while you can discriminate against whites as you can any other race, affirmative action is not discrimination because whites are already privileged in the areas where affirmative action occurs? Well, you'd just deny whites are privileged.
And that privilege goes much further back than the admissions/hiring process.
@dsbnh Right, right, I definitely feel privileged. Tell me, where do I go to get this magical privilege. I'm not very rich, so do I have to like go to some place and pick up my privilege? See, I don't have the benefit of affirmative action to help me out, but hey, I still have some form of magical privilege, right? Too bad it's absolutely worthless. Honestly, modern society completely disfavors whites, so your whole spiel of me having privilege is a century too late.
@Vengrence The very fact you're white (I presume) gives you countless privileges in society. You don't need the benefit of affirmative action, because a poor white man is better off than a poor black man. You're less likely to be discriminated against during a job interview, you're more likely to go to a better school than a black boy of similar economic status, and you have more upward mobility. You live in a fantasy world, so kindly fuck off into your delusional white victim fantasy.
@dsbnh Oh yes, I'M the one who lives in a fantasy, not the one who claims all kinds of magical fantastic things and the one who claims I'm privileged. I don't fucking feel privileged at all. Discrimination in the job markets doesn't exist anymore, but you sure try to keep it alive. Is it my fault my parents want me to get into better schools than the parents of some black kid? That's not privilege, that's fucking reality. Perhaps this privilege you're talking about is magic, then it makes sense.
@Vengrence It isn't that your parents want you to get in and therefore you will have an easier time getting in. It is that you can get into those schools more easily than the black kid for reasons that have nothing to do with what your parents want or your hard work. What makes you think the parents of the black kid don't want him to go to a better school? That is awfully stupid of you to say.
I am sure you don't feel privileged at all. It is all you know, after all.
@dsbnh You really do like insulting people, don't you? No substantial arguments, just fantastical hilarity and ad hominems. So everything that any white man has done is due to his privilege, not his hard work? My parents worked themselves half to death for me to have a future, but you dare to fucking consign it to some kind of magical privilege? You're a fucking disgusting person. Explain the fact that the children of wealthy black parents do worse than the children of poor whites. You can't.
@Vengrence You have no right to be offended because you started this conversation by insulting me and calling me a troll. I have given plenty of substantial arguments and you simply deny them. That does not make my argument insubstantial.
Privilege helps, but it is not everything. Don't try that straw man you baffoon. Fuck you for being outraged at someone pointing out that black families work just as hard and have less to show for it. Also, back up this "fact" you just threw out. Now. Asshole.
@Vengrence Also, explain how discrimination is a myth in today's job market when women get paid less than men for doing the same jobs. Explain it whenever it is convenient. And just to make it extra clear, so your mongoloid brain can process it, when I say "privilege is not everything, but is not everything" I mean that not everything a white accomplishes can be credited to privilege. However, we cannot deny they had an advantage in the form of privilege.
@Vengrence I've given you examples that you can readily confirm on your own. The fact you look at the examples I give and scoff does not mean I have provided no proof of these things.
@Vengrence You know, I wrote a comment explaining how discrimination still existed in the job market and how white privileged is promoted by a school system that assigns poor black children to poorly funded schools and wealthier white families (their success partly helped by said privileged) of roughly the same social strata to better funded schools (whether to intentionally promote white privilege or not is irrelevant). Then I asked myself: What is your goal here? You don't even make arguments.
@dsbnh I cannot fucking link websites and sources in YouTube comments, and we are limited to a short amount of characters. I know you're afraid of me listing sources, but calm down.
@Vengrence You just sent me a message that contained no links and simply claimed the same thing you did in your comment. This isn't an example one can easily verify through Google. These are specific claims that require pretty specific data to support them. And from a reliable source! Present it here. You can simply name the document and I will gladly look it up. If you need to send a specific URL then do so through PMs, but keep the conversation here.
And I did send you sources. You have not given me any sources that prove your claim of white privilege. As such, it is an invalid claim until you do. I know you won't give me it, you'll just keep ignoring what I'm saying and then I say you where it is again, you'll say I never asked. I know your type.
@Vengrence "I know your type" Ha! Three of the sources you gave me actually supported the notion of white privilege, and two even had someone explicitly say as much. The reason I didn't link you to anything is because I gave you examples instead. You denied them despite the fact these are commonly known facts. No matter though, the very links you sent supported my points and I explained why in the reply. How embarrassing.
This racist shit believes IQ differences are genetic, by the way.
@dsbnh Your examples are as valid as me claiming faeries exist. I want sourced claims. And you must do some hardcore drugs to think any of my examples support your braindead view of white privilege, something you still haven't shown me in sourced data exists yet. Until you do, don't bother commenting, tired of you avoiding it.
And IQ is quite literally genetic, what do you think the brain is? The brain is entirely dictated by your genetic code. As is the rest of your body.
@Vengrence I don't think you understand what IQ is trying to measure. It is a test which creates an arbitrary set of standards for intelligence and tries to quantify it. If you don't see how that is not testing genetics then you probably scored in the double digits. Anyway, the two links I specified in my message as supporting my point explicitly state that social and historical reasons are at the heart of the achievement gap. I am not sure how much more explicit they can be.
@dsbnh I know exactly what IQ tries to measure. And tell me, where does intellect stem from? The brain. And what is the brain? Part of our body. And how is our body's development structured? By genetics. Very simple stuff. And no, they're didn't specify that at all. We can sit around blaming people that are long dead forever, the fact of the matter is the present. In short,
GIVE
ME
SOURCED
DATA
I don't care if you believe in some magical white privilege, I want you to show me proof of it.
@Vengrence One of the proofs is the achievement gap. That is exactly what I was thinking about when I brought up the topic, or did you forget I brought up the topic? The proof of white privilege lies in all of those inequalities, which are social rather than genetic. Racism doesn’t occur only in "demonstrable instances," but is, rather, a system that is maintained by the attitudes and actions of everyday life. One which is supported by the very data you linked.
@dsbnh No, that is not proof. If someone does better than someone else, how is that automatically proof of that person being privileged? If someone does math equations faster than me, does that mean he is privileged or some shit? No, it's means he is better solving equations than I am. And once again, you claim something with no proof behind it. You claim everything is due to social factors, but forget that social factors is AFFECTED and AFFECTS genetics.
@Vengrence It is when it so widespread and the evidence for genetics being the deciding factor is so thin. I don't see how genetics affects social factors in this particular instance. Someone may just be naturally better at mathematics than you, but if it isn't just someone.. If it is an entire population, then it is far more likely social factors are a part of it. Genetics affect social aspects, but you haven't shown an inherent inferiority with the data you linked.
@dsbnh Thin... really? Are you literally ignorant of the entire field of genetics? Do you honestly think a genetic diversion of more than a hundred thousand years would cause no evolutionary/genetics changes? Or do you think they all stopped at the neck and never affected the brain?
@Vengrence I am not ignorant of the entire field of genetics, but evolutionary psychology is a laughing stock for a reason. Stop trying to school people when you yourself have no clue what you're saying. Every thought we think is not based off of genetics. That is a ridiculous over-statement on the face of it. Genetics has an influence on our basic drives, but our basic drives don't influence every single thing we do and how we behave. You're going too far to excuse your dumb beliefs.
@dsbnh That's very ironic of you to say. You yourself have no clue what the hell you're trying to convey, but still make comments saying others don't. Every thought is the byproduct of neurons. All neurons are tied to the brain. The brain is ENTIRELY structured by genetics. You do know what genes are right? They dictate how every fucking thing is structured and developed in our body.
@Vengrence I have been pretty clear on what I am trying to convey. If you can't understand it, then that is not my problem. I am not really sure how the fact every thought is tied to neurons ties back into the notion that the gaps we are looking at are all genetic. Or the notion that every thought we have is based off of genetics. You do realize that neural activity does not mean every thought is based off of genetics, correct? Some thoughts have nothing to do with genetic drives.
@dsbnh You haven't been clear at all. You claim things, then take their correctness as granted. That's fucking retarded. If every thought is tied to the neurons, that means our brain dictates all thoughts. And what in the hell do you mean by genetic drives. Genetics aren't just neurochemicals, a gene is the basic building block of our entire body. Everything is based off of them. Honestly, I can't believe I'm explaining such a basic scientific fact to you. Have you never been to school?
@Vengrence Their correctness is very obvious. Of course, someone coming from your point-of-view won't see as such. That's not exactly my problem though. Stop talking about genetics, I am actually getting quite bothered by your treatment of DNA as if it has a mind of its own. Not only are you insulting me as a scientist (Physics PhD student), but you're insulting me as a person who thinks things through and has basic critical thinking skills. You're an affront to those who value education.
@Vengrence Obvious to anyone with a brain, you gigantic moron. What does "speaking like a physics student" entail? Also, I am an atheist and not religious in the least. You keep dragging this argument into unrelated areas. I am guessing you can't comprehend some of the more nuanced points so you just interpret it in the best way you can. "Doesn't think genetics determines everything about our behavior? Religious!" Not sure how you got there, but it makes no sense.
@dsbnh Starting off with an insult? Nothing new. Speaking like a physics student would entail actual understanding science, something you're having an enormous amount of trouble with. If you're an atheist, I'm calling bullshit. You're claiming that some kind of mystical forces affect intellect, and that it's not all based down to genes. To believe genetics doesn't entirely determine behavior is to be ignorant of science. Everything we know passes through the brain, which is structured by genes.
@Vengrence Aw, you're insulted after saying truckloads of stupid shit? That's a shame. You're lucky I don't throw more insults your way, with all the time you're wasting. Anyway, I am not claiming any of those things and I understand the sciences (at least the ones related to our discussion and my field) just fine. Stop repeating that genetics completely determines behavior. It makes me cringe every time you say it, because I know how geneticists would laugh at such a claim.
@dsbnh The time I'm wasting? I'm 3 comments ahead in this whole conversation, keep up. I'm saying what every geneticist I know would say. You clearly have no clue what a geneticist would or would not do, but arrogantly claim they would agree with you despite not knowing any. I'm quite sure you live in your mother's basement, so it'd be quite hard for you to know anyone.
@Vengrence You're three comments ahead because you're responding to me. Would you like me to get ahead of the conversation by responding to things you've yet to write? Not that this is a competition, but of course you're going to be "ahead" if I have to wait for you to respond. That makes no sense. Also, I study at Caltech and our biology department is pretty nice. I know a few geneticists here, although mostly professionally.
@dsbnh Wait for me to respond. I've already responded with 3 comments that you've yet to read, genius. Hence why I said speed up. The comment I'm responding to right now is your newest one, the comment you responded to us my comment from around 8 mins ago. Oh you do? Good, go tell them that the brain(something determined by genes) doesn't determine behavior. Enjoy being laughed at.
@Vengrence I am not seeing 8 minutes on my end. I respond to your comment within an average of two minutes. A bit more on this one because I responded to something else you wrote after this comment before hitting post.
@Vengrence Also, I am not really sure how you establish what I've "yet to read". I read all 3 when you posted them and responded to each in order. Of course it will take 8 minutes to get to your latest one.
@Vengrence Holy shit, is your derail into religion actually related to dualism? Do you think that, because I don't think genetics dictate our every thought, I believe in magic/Cartesian dualism? Haha! You dipshit, my view on the influence of genetics in the way we think is perfectly compatible with materialism. There is no magic involved whatsoever.
@dsbnh No, your view on the influence on genetics is most definitely not compatible with materialism. Considering how genes dictate our entire body, including the BRAIN, the only other thing that can make intellect would have to be some kind of mystical voodoo that you believe in.
@Vengrence It seems to me that you need to either familiarize yourself with materialism some more, or familiarize yourself with genetics. You are telling me our genes dictate every aspect of our thought process. I am telling you they don't. This is not incompatible with the notion that the human mind as a thing is simply a series of neurological processes. That the information is contained in our neurological processes does not mean it is due to genetic imperatives.
@dsbnh What you are telling me is your religious belief then. Genes structure every fiber of our being, and our thought process is clearly of our being, UNLESS, you believe it is a metaphysical and immaterial force. Do you understand what I am saying, it's not that difficult? On the point of your last sentence, neurological processes don't contain information nor do they make it, they pass it between the brain for it to interpret. This is something very well known.
@Vengrence Being affected by society and it dictating certain behaviors is not metaphysical. Neurons change as new information is obtained, and this has been shown quite conclusively. The influence on behavior there is very much physical (the brain), but not genetic (the new information that now affects behavior is not a biological imperative or passed on through genes). Knowing anything about neurology would help in this conversation. That's compatible with materialism.
@dsbnh No shit sherlock, but when you are affected by society, all of that information passes through the brain. I'm tired of having to explain the same basic shit to you, I've wasted an hour on this crap. Not everything has time to listen to someone spamming shit from their mother's basement. And FOGHIGWHIPGHWG"H"IW, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE BRAIN IS IF NOT BASED ON GENETICS? For fucks sakes, do you even know what genes are?
@Vengrence Do you know what "determined by your genetics" means? It doesn't mean that anything which "passes" through your brain is determined by your genetics. Nor does it mean that how you interpret such information is solely determined by genetics, because you may have a few "layers" of social influence in there influencing the thought process more. Being influenced by genetics would mean there is a biological predisposition to all behavior. There isn't.
@dsbnh "Being influenced by genetics would mean there is a biological predisposition to all behavior. There isn't."
OH MY FUCEGJIWPGWGJW"WPIHGWP
I give up. You don't even know basic science, yet claim you're a physics student with many many geneticist as acquaintances? I'm done, I don't see the point to continue arguing with such an arrogant ignorant fuck, as you're not even capable of basic scientific understanding.
@Vengrence I am glad you give up. I don't get to hear any more stupid shit from you now. Thank god. Anyway, good luck showing that there is a biological predisposition to all behavior and no behaviors complex enough to be the product of only social influences exist.
@Vengrence Enjoy knowing there is no genetic predisposition to learning any particular language (a behavior if there ever was one). I never said "no behavior is based on biological factors", just that not all behaviors are based on biological factors. Way to read.
@dsbnh Yes, yes, good day sir. There's no part of the brain used for linguistics whatsoever, clearly not a biological factor. You're a genius mate, how could I not have seen it.
@Vengrence That's not what I said. Good job being illiterate. There is no biological factor in predisposing someone to learning any particular language. You need to (and I repeat myself here) educate yourself.
@dsbnh Mate I said you're a genius, what are you going on about? I AGREED with you. Are you telling me to educate myself because I agreed with you. You're wrong then?
In all seriousness, yes there is. It's called your wants. If someone wants to learn a language, he will. That want is dictated by his personality, which itself is dictated by the brain.
@Vengrence I can study for my quantum mechanics class and knock your silly arguments down all at once. Shame you can't study for... What is you do? Computer science at some junior college? Anyway, shame you can't do that and debate someone at the same time. Then again, you can barely do it when that is all you are doing.
@dsbnh Nice assumptions, but no, I had to go take a shower. And now I have to go out. You know, OUTSIDE. Wonderful place really, lots of fresh air. I'm afraid I'd rather breathe some fresh air than talk to you. Shocking, right? You're such a wonderful conversationalist.
@Vengrence Maybe you should spend a little bit more time inside, reading and educating yourself. I know fresh air is wonderful, but when your words have as much weight to them as said air it becomes obvious that your should re-prioritize.
@dsbnh I do spend quite a bit of time reading, mostly writing code and such. I know I don't spend as much time inside as you, but can you blame me for not wanting to sit in my mom's basement 24/7?
@Vengrence I don't know, can I? I did not know you lived in your mom's basement. I don't think writing code counts as educating yourself. Good to know you're a code monkey. Computer scientist sounds so much better.
@Vengrence No, I am telling you you're a glorified code monkey. Telling people you're a "computer scientist" just sounds nicer than "code monkey" I guess. I wonder what actual computational theorists think of kids learning how to write code in a particular language calling themselves computer scientists. Anyway, fuck off.
@dsbnh Considering I work on artificial intelligence and what not, I doubt it. Thank you for assuming what I am though, clearly anyone who has a bit of fun with code only knows coding. You have a fine mind on you sir, you'll go very far. And I'm sure computational theorists wouldn't care if someone played around with code. Now you on the other hand, I'm pretty sure actual physicists are face-palming over retards like you calling themselves physicists.
@Vengrence You don't do any work on artificial intelligence. I have gone very far, actually. I don't suppose you are a code monkey because you have a bit of fun with coding and therefore only do coding. I suppose you're a lowly code monkey because you're not intelligent enough to be anything else. No one who has said the stupid things you've said about the brain is working on anything substantial in the field of AI. That is not how AI researchers view the human brain and behavior.
@dsbnh Actually, I can tell you from experience that's exactly how AI researcher's view the brain. They certainly don't think our behavior runs on magic like you do. I know you're desperately trying to prove you're some kind of physicist or scientist by claiming random shit, but atleast say shit that makes sense.
@Vengrence No it isn't. I don't think our behavior runs on magic either. I've explained how most people think about behavior a million times now. AI researchers don't think all behavior is controlled by genetics. That is the very antithesis of AI, which focuses on creating intelligence that can learn new behaviors it has not been programmed to do. You literally claim they believe the exact opposite is true of the brain.
I am not trying to prove anything. I don't have to.
@dsbnh Yes, you have explained it. You believe that behavior is somehow not predisposed by biological means, but by magic. There's no other explanation unless you involve metaphysics in it. Or if not that, you believe that the social factors we are influenced by do not involve the brain at all(as that would be a biological predisposition). And once again you show your ignorance. Yes, AI must be able to create new data based on the interpretation it's "brain" sees of outside factors.
Oh God, They really made her say "beez" and "theyz" and "pacifics"?

Christ, it's assholes like you that perpetuate racial stereotypes and allow racism to live on to this day

@MrTSquared Did you hear that everyone? This asshole, believes you can't possibly be racist against white people. Hate crimes against whites, even if it explicitly included racial epithets, don't exist according to him. They even often use racial slurs in the same sentence against who he accuses of being racist. Please use a dictionary and stop being a racemonger.

Fuck off.
ThePsychoToaster 4 months ago
@ThePsychoToaster Are you too intellectually bankrupt to see how this is simply a stereotype? I am sure there are is someone out there who is just like this, it doesn't stop it from being a stereotype when one of the few black characters in the game talks exactly like a well-known cartoonish depiction of black people. Let's stop with the excuses. I am sick of seeing this type of rationalization from people too uncomfortable with touching on the topic.
dsbnh 4 months ago
@dsbnh I never said it wasn't a stereotype.
ThePsychoToaster 4 months ago
@ThePsychoToaster To be able to acknowledge that it is a stereotype, yet not see how it is racist, displays a tremendous amount of cognitive dissonance. A stereotype is a simplified and standardized conception of a group. The group being simplified here have traditionally been African Americans, and this simplification is based entirely on that perception.
I am sure you know a diverse group who speak like that, but you completely missed the point. Perhaps due to some more cognitive dissonance.
dsbnh 4 months ago
@dsbnh Ah, learned a couple of big words have you? I like how you think you know what's going on in my head from two comments.
ThePsychoToaster 4 months ago
@ThePsychoToaster I don't need to guess. Everything I described in that second post is evident in your own posts. Claiming something isn't racist while agreeing that it is a stereotype (which can only be based on race in this case, if we're being intellectually honest) is the epitome of cognitive dissonance.
Someone pointed out that you didn't think things through and arrived at a contradiction as a result. Learn from the experience and realize your mistake rather than fight about it.
dsbnh 4 months ago
@dsbnh But my whole point was that just because it's a stereotype doesn't mean it's inherently offensive. Stop looking at this in such a black and white fashion. Groundskeeper Wullie from The Simpsons is incredibly stereotypical, but I'm Scottish and couldn't give less of a shit. I think the character is hilarious.

dsbnh 4 months ago
@ThePsychoToaster Actually, the fact it is a stereotype does mean it is inherently offensive. That is, unless you're so clueless as to the harm that stereotypes cause that you just don't see it. It is a black and white issue and I don't appreciate this idea of those of us bothered by it as simply being uptight. The fact that you, as a privileged white male, find a stereotype concerning your people inoffensive in no way invalidates the harm stereotypes cause. Congratulations, you have..
dsbnh 4 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@ThePsychoToaster ... the luxury to ignore this in regards to The Simpsons because it is unlikely you will be discriminated against IN SCOTLAND for being a White SCOTTISH male. Some people actually have to deal with the negative consequences of reenforcing stereotypes like this one on a regular basis. The best part is the people who think they aren't affected by it.
dsbnh 4 months ago
@ThePsychoToaster Oh, and if you have suffered some discrimination for being a white Scottish male, then you shouldn't have a hard time seeing how negative stereotypes have a harmful impact on our real lives.
dsbnh 4 months ago

dsbnh 4 months ago
@ThePsychoToaster By the way, your initial point was that it was not racist. Even if it were the case that not all stereotypes are inherently offensive (they are), it is still clear that this is racist due to the nature of the portrayal. This is offensive regardless of whether stereotypes are inherently offensive or not, so let's not change the topic. Many try to argue this stereotype has nothing to do with negative perceptions of a group of people in order to be able to defend it. Ridiculous.
dsbnh 4 months ago
@dsbnh so if it was a white bum with a drawl you would be equally offended?
sirhelmet 3 months ago
@sirhelmet I would be offended (as they are inherently offensive), although I doubt I would as angry given the hardships faced by one group are not nearly as tremendous as the hardships faced by another (this) group. Are we pretending white privileged doesn't exist at every point? Are we pretending this isn't the case and that claiming otherwise makes one a hypocrite? That is utterly idiotic, but a typical talking point against anyone who speaks out on the subject.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Are you being sarcastic? Your whining is just too stereotypical.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Not being sarcastic at all. The points are salient and I am surprised you dismiss them given your stated interests in your profile. You'd think someone interested in philosophy would care about a conversation concerning race issues and the ethical questions surrounding it. Or at least not dismiss such concerns as "whining". Then again, some people merely claim to be interested in such things because it makes them look intelligent. Perhaps you are one... Who knows?
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh No, it's just that you sound like a troll. Sure, there's dumb fools, but no dumb fool is this articulate, so I'm claiming troll.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Perhaps your reaction should instead be: "Maybe caring about these things doesn't make someone a dumb fool after all. If an intelligent, articulate person can care about them, then perhaps there is some truth to them." Although, honestly, I'd prefer it if you simply had the intelligence to see the truth in the points themselves rather than through your opinions of the person presenting them. It is sad that you think these points are dumb. Here's hoping you educate yourself a bit.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh What points? All you've said is some rather amusing things and you keep repeating something about me educating myself. Projecting much?
Vengrence 3 months ago

dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence Please stop. This comment reads like your typical comment from someone whose ego has apparently been bruised. I told you to go educate yourself once. I didn't repeat myself and I am certainly not projecting. I misjudged you. You're not a particularly intelligent person, as evidenced by the fact that you saw my post as a challenge rather than a recommendation in good faith. You have presented no counter-points and simply dismissed these serious points about race as "amusing". Go away.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Alright, now I'm sure you're trolling. If you call your obviously humorous statements as serious, what else can you be?
"given the hardships faced by one group are not nearly as tremendous as the hardships faced by another (this) group"
Anyone who makes such a statement is obviously joking. Collective group hardships make no sense. If no hardships have happened to you personally, I don't care if you feel sorry for yourself because centuries ago, something happened to some random guy.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Collective group hardships make no sense? Why? Now I know that those interests listed in your profile are merely for show. Collective group hardships are experienced by minority groups of all types all over the world on a regular basis. This is so obvious I hardly know where to begin to educate you on the subject. I also enjoy the whiff of a just-world fallacy coming off your posts.
That comment you just made is the most ignorant thing I've ever read and you should be embarrassed.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh You're a very funny guy. Alright, I demand reparations for the murders, rapes, muggings, and other assorted crimes "minority groups" committed against my people. Pay up, I don't have all day.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence You're attacking a straw man. Discrimination based on race, gender and sexual orientation takes place in our society. These are collective hardships for the groups being discriminated against. How you equate a desire for such things to stop with demands for reparations I will never know. The demand/goal is that it stops happening. Period. Being mugged is not a group hardship, for it probably didn't happen to you because you belong to any particular group. Think before you write.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence Oh God! I just saw the videos you've added to your Favorites. You apparently have some silly views on race/politics and I know enough not to argue with someone like that. Previously I merely glanced at your profile and thought "This is someone who probably isn't very familiar with this stuff, but can be reasoned with." Your recent posts made me curious, so I checked. It seems you already have some pretty strong, malformed views on this subject. I am sorry I wasted my time trying.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh You can't respond to my query so you go off on a tangent? You believe in the concept of collective hardships, punishments, etc. As such, I am liable for reparations everytime anything bad happens to anyone sharing my genotype, right? I do find it amusing that you think anyone who doesn't follow your view of politics and life is wrong. Narrow-minded much? I suppose it makes sense, people like you are usually zealots, just not the religious type. Throwing around bigot like the word heretic.
Vengrence 3 months ago

dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence I knew you'd accuse me of dodging the question. Read both responses again. I responded to your silly query on the first one. The concept of collective hardships is not as you describe it. At least, no definition I am familiar with applies it to all instances of suffering. It refers to any group suffering due to their membership in said group. Of course it sounds ridiculous in your interpretation, you've conveniently picked a ridiculous interpretation. Yes, you are wrong.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence In regards to my "tangent": You miss the point. The things you believe are so warped, and you believe them so deeply, that there is no point in engaging you in this discussion. You won't listen. You will change the meaning of things and apply them universally so as to not deal with the real points made. You will expect others to question their points while giving no real reasons to, and never question your own. That is no way to have a discussion, so I have to walk away. Sorry.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh That is extraordinarily ironic of you to say. Literally, everything you said, can be said right back to you. This is the 21st century, this is not the 17 or 18th century where people are enslaved. The more you keep focusing on imaginary issues, the more you keep us in the mindset of centuries ago. Congratulations, you do more to harm your supposed cause than anyone.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence None of those things can be said right back to me by anyone who is even remotely grounded in reality. Of course, if you aren't grounded in reality and think discrimination doesn't exist in the modern age then you could say every single one of those things back to me. I've done no harm to "my cause". I enjoyed your attempt to redefine 'collective hardship' to such an absurd thing. Also, I never claimed you were liable for reparations. That is something you made up. Have a nice day!
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Pray tell, where is this so called discrimination that we have in modern times? Welfare checks? Affirmative action?(which itself is literal racism as you're separating people in racial groups and giving benefits to one but not the other). Or is it alright if it's discrimination against whites?
Vengrence 3 months ago
Comment removed
dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence I think you are so out of your fucking mind that nothing I could possibly say could answer that question to your satisfaction. Let's say I point out that, while you can discriminate against whites as you can any other race, affirmative action is not discrimination because whites are already privileged in the areas where affirmative action occurs? Well, you'd just deny whites are privileged.
And that privilege goes much further back than the admissions/hiring process.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Right, right, I definitely feel privileged. Tell me, where do I go to get this magical privilege. I'm not very rich, so do I have to like go to some place and pick up my privilege? See, I don't have the benefit of affirmative action to help me out, but hey, I still have some form of magical privilege, right? Too bad it's absolutely worthless. Honestly, modern society completely disfavors whites, so your whole spiel of me having privilege is a century too late.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence The very fact you're white (I presume) gives you countless privileges in society. You don't need the benefit of affirmative action, because a poor white man is better off than a poor black man. You're less likely to be discriminated against during a job interview, you're more likely to go to a better school than a black boy of similar economic status, and you have more upward mobility. You live in a fantasy world, so kindly fuck off into your delusional white victim fantasy.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Oh yes, I'M the one who lives in a fantasy, not the one who claims all kinds of magical fantastic things and the one who claims I'm privileged. I don't fucking feel privileged at all. Discrimination in the job markets doesn't exist anymore, but you sure try to keep it alive. Is it my fault my parents want me to get into better schools than the parents of some black kid? That's not privilege, that's fucking reality. Perhaps this privilege you're talking about is magic, then it makes sense.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence It isn't that your parents want you to get in and therefore you will have an easier time getting in. It is that you can get into those schools more easily than the black kid for reasons that have nothing to do with what your parents want or your hard work. What makes you think the parents of the black kid don't want him to go to a better school? That is awfully stupid of you to say.
I am sure you don't feel privileged at all. It is all you know, after all.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh You really do like insulting people, don't you? No substantial arguments, just fantastical hilarity and ad hominems. So everything that any white man has done is due to his privilege, not his hard work? My parents worked themselves half to death for me to have a future, but you dare to fucking consign it to some kind of magical privilege? You're a fucking disgusting person. Explain the fact that the children of wealthy black parents do worse than the children of poor whites. You can't.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence You have no right to be offended because you started this conversation by insulting me and calling me a troll. I have given plenty of substantial arguments and you simply deny them. That does not make my argument insubstantial.
Privilege helps, but it is not everything. Don't try that straw man you baffoon. Fuck you for being outraged at someone pointing out that black families work just as hard and have less to show for it. Also, back up this "fact" you just threw out. Now. Asshole.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh I'll answer this in message.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Also, explain how discrimination is a myth in today's job market when women get paid less than men for doing the same jobs. Explain it whenever it is convenient. And just to make it extra clear, so your mongoloid brain can process it, when I say "privilege is not everything, but is not everything" I mean that not everything a white accomplishes can be credited to privilege. However, we cannot deny they had an advantage in the form of privilege.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh We can deny that, as you have given no proof of any kind of privilege other than your own fantastical claims.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I've given you examples that you can readily confirm on your own. The fact you look at the examples I give and scoff does not mean I have provided no proof of these things.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence You know, I wrote a comment explaining how discrimination still existed in the job market and how white privileged is promoted by a school system that assigns poor black children to poorly funded schools and wealthier white families (their success partly helped by said privileged) of roughly the same social strata to better funded schools (whether to intentionally promote white privilege or not is irrelevant). Then I asked myself: What is your goal here? You don't even make arguments.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Already answered your other comment, let's move this ridiculous argument to messages, we're wasting space on comments.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence No, keep it here and keep it in public. I want people to see the things you say.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh I cannot fucking link websites and sources in YouTube comments, and we are limited to a short amount of characters. I know you're afraid of me listing sources, but calm down.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence You just sent me a message that contained no links and simply claimed the same thing you did in your comment. This isn't an example one can easily verify through Google. These are specific claims that require pretty specific data to support them. And from a reliable source! Present it here. You can simply name the document and I will gladly look it up. If you need to send a specific URL then do so through PMs, but keep the conversation here.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh *Continued
And I did send you sources. You have not given me any sources that prove your claim of white privilege. As such, it is an invalid claim until you do. I know you won't give me it, you'll just keep ignoring what I'm saying and then I say you where it is again, you'll say I never asked. I know your type.
Vengrence 3 months ago

Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I don't think you understand what IQ is trying to measure. It is a test which creates an arbitrary set of standards for intelligence and tries to quantify it. If you don't see how that is not testing genetics then you probably scored in the double digits. Anyway, the two links I specified in my message as supporting my point explicitly state that social and historical reasons are at the heart of the achievement gap. I am not sure how much more explicit they can be.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh I know exactly what IQ tries to measure. And tell me, where does intellect stem from? The brain. And what is the brain? Part of our body. And how is our body's development structured? By genetics. Very simple stuff. And no, they're didn't specify that at all. We can sit around blaming people that are long dead forever, the fact of the matter is the present. In short,
GIVE
ME
SOURCED
DATA
I don't care if you believe in some magical white privilege, I want you to show me proof of it.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence One of the proofs is the achievement gap. That is exactly what I was thinking about when I brought up the topic, or did you forget I brought up the topic? The proof of white privilege lies in all of those inequalities, which are social rather than genetic. Racism doesn’t occur only in "demonstrable instances," but is, rather, a system that is maintained by the attitudes and actions of everyday life. One which is supported by the very data you linked.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh No, that is not proof. If someone does better than someone else, how is that automatically proof of that person being privileged? If someone does math equations faster than me, does that mean he is privileged or some shit? No, it's means he is better solving equations than I am. And once again, you claim something with no proof behind it. You claim everything is due to social factors, but forget that social factors is AFFECTED and AFFECTS genetics.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence It is when it so widespread and the evidence for genetics being the deciding factor is so thin. I don't see how genetics affects social factors in this particular instance. Someone may just be naturally better at mathematics than you, but if it isn't just someone.. If it is an entire population, then it is far more likely social factors are a part of it. Genetics affect social aspects, but you haven't shown an inherent inferiority with the data you linked.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Thin... really? Are you literally ignorant of the entire field of genetics? Do you honestly think a genetic diversion of more than a hundred thousand years would cause no evolutionary/genetics changes? Or do you think they all stopped at the neck and never affected the brain?
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I am not ignorant of the entire field of genetics, but evolutionary psychology is a laughing stock for a reason. Stop trying to school people when you yourself have no clue what you're saying. Every thought we think is not based off of genetics. That is a ridiculous over-statement on the face of it. Genetics has an influence on our basic drives, but our basic drives don't influence every single thing we do and how we behave. You're going too far to excuse your dumb beliefs.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh That's very ironic of you to say. You yourself have no clue what the hell you're trying to convey, but still make comments saying others don't. Every thought is the byproduct of neurons. All neurons are tied to the brain. The brain is ENTIRELY structured by genetics. You do know what genes are right? They dictate how every fucking thing is structured and developed in our body.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I have been pretty clear on what I am trying to convey. If you can't understand it, then that is not my problem. I am not really sure how the fact every thought is tied to neurons ties back into the notion that the gaps we are looking at are all genetic. Or the notion that every thought we have is based off of genetics. You do realize that neural activity does not mean every thought is based off of genetics, correct? Some thoughts have nothing to do with genetic drives.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh You haven't been clear at all. You claim things, then take their correctness as granted. That's fucking retarded. If every thought is tied to the neurons, that means our brain dictates all thoughts. And what in the hell do you mean by genetic drives. Genetics aren't just neurochemicals, a gene is the basic building block of our entire body. Everything is based off of them. Honestly, I can't believe I'm explaining such a basic scientific fact to you. Have you never been to school?
Vengrence 3 months ago

Religious!" Not sure how you got there, but it makes no sense.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Starting off with an insult? Nothing new. Speaking like a physics student would entail actual understanding science, something you're having an enormous amount of trouble with. If you're an atheist, I'm calling bullshit. You're claiming that some kind of mystical forces affect intellect, and that it's not all based down to genes. To believe genetics doesn't entirely determine behavior is to be ignorant of science. Everything we know passes through the brain, which is structured by genes.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Aw, you're insulted after saying truckloads of stupid shit? That's a shame. You're lucky I don't throw more insults your way, with all the time you're wasting. Anyway, I am not claiming any of those things and I understand the sciences (at least the ones related to our discussion and my field) just fine. Stop repeating that genetics completely determines behavior. It makes me cringe every time you say it, because I know how geneticists would laugh at such a claim.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh The time I'm wasting? I'm 3 comments ahead in this whole conversation, keep up. I'm saying what every geneticist I know would say. You clearly have no clue what a geneticist would or would not do, but arrogantly claim they would agree with you despite not knowing any. I'm quite sure you live in your mother's basement, so it'd be quite hard for you to know anyone.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence You're three comments ahead because you're responding to me. Would you like me to get ahead of the conversation by responding to things you've yet to write? Not that this is a competition, but of course you're going to be "ahead" if I have to wait for you to respond. That makes no sense. Also, I study at Caltech and our biology department is pretty nice. I know a few geneticists here, although mostly professionally.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Wait for me to respond. I've already responded with 3 comments that you've yet to read, genius. Hence why I said speed up. The comment I'm responding to right now is your newest one, the comment you responded to us my comment from around 8 mins ago. Oh you do? Good, go tell them that the brain(something determined by genes) doesn't determine behavior. Enjoy being laughed at.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I am not seeing 8 minutes on my end. I respond to your comment within an average of two minutes. A bit more on this one because I responded to something else you wrote after this comment before hitting post.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence Also, I am not really sure how you establish what I've "yet to read". I read all 3 when you posted them and responded to each in order. Of course it will take 8 minutes to get to your latest one.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@Vengrence Holy shit, is your derail into religion actually related to dualism? Do you think that, because I don't think genetics dictate our every thought, I believe in magic/Cartesian dualism? Haha! You dipshit, my view on the influence of genetics in the way we think is perfectly compatible with materialism. There is no magic involved whatsoever.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh No, your view on the influence on genetics is most definitely not compatible with materialism. Considering how genes dictate our entire body, including the BRAIN, the only other thing that can make intellect would have to be some kind of mystical voodoo that you believe in.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence It seems to me that you need to either familiarize yourself with materialism some more, or familiarize yourself with genetics. You are telling me our genes dictate every aspect of our thought process. I am telling you they don't. This is not incompatible with the notion that the human mind as a thing is simply a series of neurological processes. That the information is contained in our neurological processes does not mean it is due to genetic imperatives.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh What you are telling me is your religious belief then. Genes structure every fiber of our being, and our thought process is clearly of our being, UNLESS, you believe it is a metaphysical and immaterial force. Do you understand what I am saying, it's not that difficult? On the point of your last sentence, neurological processes don't contain information nor do they make it, they pass it between the brain for it to interpret. This is something very well known.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Being affected by society and it dictating certain behaviors is not metaphysical. Neurons change as new information is obtained, and this has been shown quite conclusively. The influence on behavior there is very much physical (the brain), but not genetic (the new information that now affects behavior is not a biological imperative or passed on through genes). Knowing anything about neurology would help in this conversation. That's compatible with materialism.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh No shit sherlock, but when you are affected by society, all of that information passes through the brain. I'm tired of having to explain the same basic shit to you, I've wasted an hour on this crap. Not everything has time to listen to someone spamming shit from their mother's basement. And FOGHIGWHIPGHWG"H"IW, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE BRAIN IS IF NOT BASED ON GENETICS? For fucks sakes, do you even know what genes are?
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Do you know what "determined by your genetics" means? It doesn't mean that anything which "passes" through your brain is determined by your genetics. Nor does it mean that how you interpret such information is solely determined by genetics, because you may have a few "layers" of social influence in there influencing the thought process more. Being influenced by genetics would mean there is a biological predisposition to all behavior. There isn't.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh "Being influenced by genetics would mean there is a biological predisposition to all behavior. There isn't."
OH MY FUCEGJIWPGWGJW"WPIHGWP
I give up. You don't even know basic science, yet claim you're a physics student with many many geneticist as acquaintances? I'm done, I don't see the point to continue arguing with such an arrogant ignorant fuck, as you're not even capable of basic scientific understanding.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I am glad you give up. I don't get to hear any more stupid shit from you now. Thank god. Anyway, good luck showing that there is a biological predisposition to all behavior and no behaviors complex enough to be the product of only social influences exist.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Indeed, good day sir. I hope you are one day able to prove that behavior isn't based on biological factors, but on MAGIC.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Enjoy knowing there is no genetic predisposition to learning any particular language (a behavior if there ever was one). I never said "no behavior is based on biological factors", just that not all behaviors are based on biological factors. Way to read.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Yes, yes, good day sir. There's no part of the brain used for linguistics whatsoever, clearly not a biological factor. You're a genius mate, how could I not have seen it.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence That's not what I said. Good job being illiterate. There is no biological factor in predisposing someone to learning any particular language. You need to (and I repeat myself here) educate yourself.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Mate I said you're a genius, what are you going on about? I AGREED with you. Are you telling me to educate myself because I agreed with you. You're wrong then?
In all seriousness, yes there is. It's called your wants. If someone wants to learn a language, he will. That want is dictated by his personality, which itself is dictated by the brain.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@dsbnh Anyways, I have to go. I know you have nothing to do, but not everyone is so... fortunate.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I can study for my quantum mechanics class and knock your silly arguments down all at once. Shame you can't study for... What is you do? Computer science at some junior college? Anyway, shame you can't do that and debate someone at the same time. Then again, you can barely do it when that is all you are doing.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Nice assumptions, but no, I had to go take a shower. And now I have to go out. You know, OUTSIDE. Wonderful place really, lots of fresh air. I'm afraid I'd rather breathe some fresh air than talk to you. Shocking, right? You're such a wonderful conversationalist.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence Maybe you should spend a little bit more time inside, reading and educating yourself. I know fresh air is wonderful, but when your words have as much weight to them as said air it becomes obvious that your should re-prioritize.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh I do spend quite a bit of time reading, mostly writing code and such. I know I don't spend as much time inside as you, but can you blame me for not wanting to sit in my mom's basement 24/7?
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence I don't know, can I? I did not know you lived in your mom's basement. I don't think writing code counts as educating yourself. Good to know you're a code monkey. Computer scientist sounds so much better.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Oh this is good, are you telling me computer scientists don't have fun with code?
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence No, I am telling you you're a glorified code monkey. Telling people you're a "computer scientist" just sounds nicer than "code monkey" I guess. I wonder what actual computational theorists think of kids learning how to write code in a particular language calling themselves computer scientists. Anyway, fuck off.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Considering I work on artificial intelligence and what not, I doubt it. Thank you for assuming what I am though, clearly anyone who has a bit of fun with code only knows coding. You have a fine mind on you sir, you'll go very far. And I'm sure computational theorists wouldn't care if someone played around with code. Now you on the other hand, I'm pretty sure actual physicists are face-palming over retards like you calling themselves physicists.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence You don't do any work on artificial intelligence. I have gone very far, actually. I don't suppose you are a code monkey because you have a bit of fun with coding and therefore only do coding. I suppose you're a lowly code monkey because you're not intelligent enough to be anything else. No one who has said the stupid things you've said about the brain is working on anything substantial in the field of AI. That is not how AI researchers view the human brain and behavior.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Actually, I can tell you from experience that's exactly how AI researcher's view the brain. They certainly don't think our behavior runs on magic like you do. I know you're desperately trying to prove you're some kind of physicist or scientist by claiming random shit, but atleast say shit that makes sense.
Vengrence 3 months ago
@Vengrence No it isn't. I don't think our behavior runs on magic either. I've explained how most people think about behavior a million times now. AI researchers don't think all behavior is controlled by genetics. That is the very antithesis of AI, which focuses on creating intelligence that can learn new behaviors it has not been programmed to do. You literally claim they believe the exact opposite is true of the brain.
I am not trying to prove anything. I don't have to.
dsbnh 3 months ago
@dsbnh Yes, you have explained it. You believe that behavior is somehow not predisposed by biological means, but by magic. There's no other explanation unless you involve metaphysics in it. Or if not that, you believe that the social factors we are influenced by do not involve the brain at all(as that would be a biological predisposition). And once again you show your ignorance. Yes, AI must be able to create new data based on the interpretation it's "brain" sees of outside factors.
