What happens if you get a grumpy panther or one is ill and turns nasty? We see this with normal pets but with something that can kill a human with ease its dodgy. I do think that the best big cats are Panthers and Tigers. Lions I find repulsive especially males.

actually there are black panthers. Panthers is a generic term for big cats that fall under the Panthera feline genus, such as tigers, lions, leopards, jaguars, cougars. The term Panther can apply to any of these species. a "Black Panther" is any of those species that is black. A black jaguar is a black panther. A black leopard is a black panther. Its similar to being called a black canine. A black dog is a black canine. A black wolf is a black canine (canis = genus, panther = genus)

Sorry I meant to say they are the 'only' cat that cannot retract their claws. This is why they have problems climbing trees, once reason their kills are often stolen from them. Cheetah's, of which their are actually several sub-species are 'not' big cats. The key differentiator is that a cheetah cannot roar, only purr as it inhales. But you don't need to be an expert to know this - its all on Wikipedia for instance! :-D

I've worked with both and love the Jaguar. Both are smart and both are unpredictable. The Lions are easiest to work with. The Tiger is the real King of the jungle. About the same, or slightly more strength than a Lion, but a whole lot smarter and quicker. Cheetah's are my favourite cat, but they are 'not' a big cat. They are the largest of the small cats. The difference being that like a domestic cat they can retract their claws.
