cmsahe - a very perceptive comment. The Smurfs are obviously communists. They live in a cooperative, each Smurf / communard has a unique skill that they contribute to their society, which in turn clothes and feeds them. They share what little they have, they're happy, they sing jolly songs, they wear little hats and they live in the woods, like partisans.

Plus, Father Abraham bears more than a passing resemblance to Karl Marx.
