  • The water on the floor may be getting there due to a bad seal at the base of the windshield frame. (cowl rubber)

  • runs like dave rocks bulldozer!

  • You got to get your spacers back on the right side elese your back lash will be wrong an it will make nose an ware out faster

  • Its a Dana 35, the C- clip type there not known to be strong, count your teeth on the pinon gear and the same on the ring and that will tell you what gears you have

  • 5:47 wtf was that.. scared me

  • @billstmaxx I Agree Bill..Leave the Front edge on so nothing rolls off....Awsome table BTW. Keep The Vids Comming my man...

  • its a dana 35 c-clip axle. the weakest of all jeep axles.

  • on the strip down video, "just watched" the retainer thrust shims shows wear one more so than other, inner bearing o ring spun / damaged, yet the other one good. umm .

one of the cups shows reduced lubrication from banding and the sun gear / side gear shows pitting along face this will lead to stress failure.

pretty conclusive its needs some parts and setting up.

everything Bill needs to know is in the workshop service manual, easy job as long as the details are totally understood.

  • Bill when you get round to chopping the rear chassis off to fabricate a new one. I take it you will be knocking up a setting up jig frame .works every time for me.

  • love your need bench. give it a few weeks before MR Plasma trims the front edge off as its dickered.

  • Bill buddy that sun gear is fucked, its needs to be replaced, she dickered from to much movement, Destructive pitting from incorrect gear mesh & over load , noisy and rough gear in serious times. need replacement. in short that diff was on borrowed time.

why ditch the tramp bars how else are you going to keep the axle stable, leaf springs DON'T do the job , hence the point of tramp bars & 5th / 3th diagonal to keep axle in check, you need to stop listening to the frigin goofs.

  • Hey bill If you want you can pm me and i can explain how to put it back together and walk you though it! I do thois for a living and its not hard! just gotta know how

  • Hey bill u need a dial indicator some special diff paint to set correct backlash u will need a shim kit for your diff side preload ect u shouldn't of tookin it apart

  • @biggdaddy2001 As long as he keeps the the same shims he wont have to mess with the backlash, however he will have to set the Pre load on the pinion bearings!

  • @o7powerwagon look at the condition of the sun gear ( side gear) the 1 bill pick'd up, its dickered, Its in need of replacement, its been new to long . complete re-shimmed required.

gear wear patterns will tell everything you need to know good and bad, use it .

  • @redneckhillbillyjon Well yeah if he replaces that gear then yeah he will need to shim it

  • @o7powerwagon the preload is set with the crush sleeve i used to work on diffs

  • @biggdaddy2001 I work on diffs for a living, I know that the preload is set by the crush sleeve! when you take the pinion out you have to replace the crush sleeve and tighten till the proper preload! Hes ganna need a dial type inch pound touqe wrench and a impact with alot of balls or a breaker bar with a 4ft cheater bar

  • @o7powerwagon ore he can use a torq multiplier with a regular handel 1/2 inch ratchet and he will need to build a pinion flange holding tool while he tightens the pinion nut i feel sorry for bill who a non traind auto mechanic tackleing this kind of job lol

  • @o7powerwagon but he had all of the shims mixed up while he had it in the parts cleaner

  • Did you label the shims and collars so they go back in the same spot? Can't mix them up.

  • is it just me or is the audio outta sync?

  • Don't have to worry a our backlash as long as you remember where all the shims went

  • All u need to make sure is put all the shims where they came from and get a new crush collar to set pinion bearing preload

  • Turned away from the screen for a minute and when I came back it was like watching a Chinese Kung Fu movie. You could make a great ventriloquist.

  • Thats the weakest link on the YJ...ditch that 35 for a Ford 8.8. You'll be happy after going through all this work...plus you'll have disc brakes when you're done.

  • dana axle

  • some of those axles had a rubber ring that was used when the axle tubes were pressed in , you can't replace them , just silicone that from the inside , all it does is keep the oil from seeping out around the tubes ...

  • if you are not going to run it on the road , just bolt it together and check the pattern , if it is in the middle of the teeth , and you get all the bolts tight , you will be fine , if you are putting it on the public roadway , you need to replace the spider gears , those pits will fail , and you need to set it up right too ....

  • dnt worry bout putting it back together fella, its the reverse of the strip down you did on her, most of the ppl that are saying good luck putting it back together are just worried about the amount of work and parts needed to put them back together. take your time and dont try n force things together n u will be good to go

  • its a dana 35

  • Pinion has inter and outer seals!

  • turdy 5.... loose that axle if you plan on wheelin it

  • Don't ask pug hahaha..

  • i replace my rack and pinion and spider gears in my 2000 gmc sierra and i just threw it all together thinkin it was right and it was dickered! howls like a sick dog make sure u do it right somthin to do with puttin paint on the ring and runnin it for a while then adjust your lash i didnt do this just tighted the piss out of it

  • @dazzeddude96 He still needs to check back lash and clearance.

  • yur audio is off from the video by a few seconds

  • dana 35

  • re assembling the diff is accually not that hard just difficult.. is getting the ring gear and pinion pattern set up correctly...

  • @y2kxj It is called back lash

  • @rollerman454 yeah you need to start with the back lash and then check where the pinion and ring are touching on the tooth... you can have good back last but have too deep or too shaallow of a gear patttern

  • the top of that stainless table needs to be flipped over or the front edge needs to be cut off so it doeesnt feel like you are working in a sink. has potential to be a kick ass bench

  • Luke I said yesterday, not all Canadians ate like that!

  • the audio, its dicked!

  • does anyone else knowdis the sound doesnt go with the video during the jeep?

  • Its a dana 35 c rear axle !!

  • first comment frig yeah
