Didn't realize how young Ms Agnew was when she first began to sing this beautiful song. I first heard it in the animated film "THE SNOWMAN" and immediately was filled with wonderful emotion. I love how her voice has that childlike, youthful sound. It's quite soothing. On shows like American Idol, the emphasis seems to be on big, powerhouse voices with a lot of melisma. Not that that's a bad thing, but those can tire your ears after a while. Sometimes it's nicer to listen to something that has a simpler kind of beauty.

@Celtic7Rose Tin whistle, pennywhistle and Irish whistle are the same thing. This sounds like a simple brass whistle (Generation or other similar brand). It's got a nice metallic "chiff" to it. The tune being played at that point is "The Last Rose of Summer".

I heard them live the day before Valentine's day in Tupelo, MS...they were FANTASTIC!!! It's a small arena there, and we were pretty close...I found out I was gonna get to go THE. DAY. OF. THE. CONCERT. And I freaked out, because I'm a huge fan :) We were sitting next to a couple that had been married 60 years, and this was her Valentine's Day present. We would chat in between performances, and I don't think he ever realized my accompanying friend wasn't my boyfriend, he's my gay bestie...

That is because it was actually made for that Cartoon, The Snowman. Not sure if you already knew though :)

However it frustrates me a little that such a beautiful piece is not credited as much to it's original creator, but rather more to bands such as Nightwish who cover it (even though Nightwish does present it nicely). Not that the performance is in anyway bad, but still.

Chloe is a part of Celtic woman, this is just her song. She always sings it. It's part of her own CD. Each Celtic woman has a CD that is just them singing. Then they have collective songs. So this song is part of Chloa's CD but she is singing as part of Celtic Woman. Hope this helps.

This is one of the most enchanting and magical songs I've ever heard -- due to Chloe Agnew's child-like vocals and the perfectly balanced arrangement. I listened and watched (via You Tube) to the animated cartoon that originated this lovely tune, which then led me to CW's version. Everytime I listen to it I'm mesmorized and transported to somewhere back into my own childhood. Chloe's pure beauty then pushes the tune out of the stratosphere.

I'm pretty sure their DVD shows like this are lip synch. They sound virtually identical to the studio cuts. I've seen them live twice, and they definitely sing live on tour - and its very human, with the odd flat note here and there but they are quite good when really, truly singing live. Just not this perfect :)

The song was created in 1982 by Howard Blake, who wrote the music, the lyrics, and composed and conducted it for the animated special "The Snowman," (originally sung by St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty).

Ritchie Blackmore (Rainbow), Nightwish, and Celtic Women, only did covers, and had nothing to do with the lyrics.

It's kind of lame that many people are confused by the origins of this great piece.

I've noticed that with the first album. I don't know if they dubbed in the voice tracks or not for this performance. There are definite differences between the live performance and the recording in "A New Journey" though, and then they redid their songs in their later tours.
