What is there to explain about it? It's very similar to that of the United States.
-Due to guns, there are far more murders in the US.
-UK suffers from a higher crime rate in part because:
--Greater incentive to remain on welfare; and welfare is insufficient.
--Less effective law enforcement, shorter sentences, etc...
--Fewer guns, therefore fewer murders. Recall that criminals are disproportionally affected by murder. Lower murder rate means criminals live longer, and can commit more crimes.

It's more about the ability of citizens to own guns. If there is a good chance a random house will have a gun, then criminals will be less likely to commit crimes, but if there is absolute gun control, the criminal will get guns illegally, and then have free pickings on all the law abiding citizens he knows don't have guns. In every country where this has happened, crime has skyrocketed after gun control. It's very simple. Take away the ability for self defense and self defense is impossible.

There have been shootings at gun shows and shooting ranges - they are exceedingly rare. So are school shootings.
School/workplace shootings are (generally) carried out by insane people who intend to kill their associates AND commit suicide.
Allowing students/teachers to be armed wouldn't reduce the number of would-be shooters, but could reduce the number of victims.
Crime is high in MO, TN, FL, OK, TX and NV and they do not have strict gun control laws.

As for the Swiss - their rifles are for national defense, not home defense.
They have a full-size SIG 550 assault rifle in their closet somewhere, wrapped up, and the ammo is kept in a sealed container. This is a horrible set-up from a close quarters combat or battle readiness perspective. Swiss criminals know this. But like I said earlier, Germans are obedient and lawful people with a cultural appreciation for repression and collectivism and so you'd expect far less crime from them.

Your right about the rifle ,but more so than not they also keep the army issue sig saur 9mm pistol. In the case of a few jobs and for officers its mandatory. Guns lower crime in a general sense ,but almost all of the time there are other factors that come in to play that matter more. Guns might drop the crime rate a few percent if nothing else comes into play. Otherwise its a crapshoot trying to guess why.

When the ban fails to have an effect, pro-gun people tend to jump to the opposite conclusion and suggest that the ban increased crime. Neither is correct - guns have a negligible effect on the crime rate.
Crime in the US has declined since the AWB was passed. Coincidence? Absolutely.

Crime in Australia was on the rise before anti-gun legislation was passed in 1996; the trend merely continued. After guns were banned and eradicated in the early 2000s, crime actually dipped slightly for about a year, and then returned to its upward climb. Again, none of this had anything to do with guns.
Keep in mind that Australia and the UK had repressive anti-gun legislation for years before guns were actually banned; criminals were never worried about a legit citizen carrying concealed.

I don't wonder at all. I know why it is. We can't dance around with allowing citizens to be armed, but with lots of restrictions. It should be fully armed, or not armed at all. Disarmed citizens are not governed, they're ruled. If we were allowed to carry guns everywhere, there'd be less violence. More guns actually equals less violence, you never see shootings at gun shows do you? But you always see shootings at disarmed places like schools. Criminals prefer unarmed victims, guns stop crime
