Gabriel's first three albums are my favourites. He hadn't locked into a style yet, so was trying out lots of different ideas. That always makes an artist more interesting IMO.
For some reason here Peter reminds me of a grid-iron player trying to dance like Michael Jackson... ...as for the location, it reminds me of Heathrow without any passengers, and the travelator almost represents an assembly line...
modern love is such a strain he was wearing a fencing uniform...so he doesn't get poked in the face with a foil...or saber or whatever weapon of choice. For all the people who miss his hair...ditto. Gosh, I have such very strong memories of his music from when I was a kid. I remember going to play pin the tail on the donkey and there was fleetwood mac and peter gabriel and paul simon playing...at my request. LOVE THE MUCIS OF THE 80s
I loved this song when it came out - and I loved the video. I remember that it really captured how I felt about 'love' (whatever that is) and women.
The line of beautiful women coming down the escalator and the cardboard cut outs are brilliant - physically perfect but completely empty of all feeling and emotion.
I think deserved a place on the Sixteen Golden Greats album. Better than the unexciting version of "Here Comes The Flood," which wasn't even released as a single...
You just have to adore PG for just not being a Sheep, he definately thinks outside of the box & is innovative even when it comes to doing music videos. I love him.
Superbe clip. Toujours aussi fou lors de ce premier album. "Car, 1977, PG 1" Grande chanson. 3ème plage de cet album juste après le classique "Solsbury hill". Le talent à l'état brut. Dommage qu'il ne l'ait pas chantée au Gaou...
Yes, he stopped costumes except for this video!

One of the rare times Peter Gabriel used a costume as a solo performer.
