  • Totally the bridge operator's fault---the draw was on its way down.

  • @AEMoreira81 BTW, there was alcohol involved; he was arrested. This was in Welland, ON, and that was a lake freighter.

  • wow

  • omg

  • Well it appears you all really don't know why the ship hit the bridge. The bridge's Manager or whatever wasn't paying attention and put the bridge back down before the ship crossed under the bridge therefore the motherfucker lost his job.

  • "Captain to the bridge!... NO!!.. NOT THAT ONE!!!" *crash* xD

  • oops

  • It was the bridges operator fault. Crew can't do anything to stop the ship already on this distance. But also I think communication between the vessel and the lowering bridge must not be well performed.

  • HEY captain, MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION TO HOW TALL YOUR SHIP IS! XD

  • it was like : "captain to the bridge! Nooo not this one!" xD ROFL

  • The music ruined this video

  • @Recordbhoy

    No...The music made this video.

  • I just found out the bridge operator was on painkillers and intoxicated by alcohol at the time of the incident.

  • Ship hits Bridge

    Bridge hits Bridge

    Shit hits Fan

Fuck me dead, I thought that was the worlds worst captain. But no, watch closely, the bridge is going down before impact!!!! The operator then tries to put it up again, but it is too late... Once the ship was on approach capt. was commited to that course, and a bridge moving down is hard to detect. Fault lies squarely with the bridge operator.

  • nope,i thinkthe bridge hits the ship not ship hits bridge..

  • As i remember the Captain died (RIP) the rest of the people where OK.

I´m not sure, but i beleive that the captain was drunk and therefore did not stop the ship.

Please correct me if I am wrong..

  • @02powertube Yea. You are wrong. The bridge was lowered onto the ship, this can be seen from the video. Nothing the ship can do about that.

  • @TheManWhoSpoke

You are right, nobody died - sorry :-)

Just found the article from the newspaper, in Danish so i guess i just dont link to it ha ha.

  • @02powertube It was the bridge operator that was intoxicated and on painkillers, as I stated above, stupid people do stupid stuff. Just saw it on World's Dumbest Motorists.

  • How does something like this even happen? Is this a blind captain or something?

  • @Tomeroni10 The bridge were going down to soon,

  • The P reminds me of that on Poseidon in the remake.

  • the guy at 0:48 cant find his phone

  • This is a HUGE loss!!!

  • What is the name of that ship.

  • @1kikojr Windoc

  • WOW SOUNDS LIKE GREEN DAY OR NIRVANA CANT TELL ..........ASKING ALEXANDRIA DEFENETTLY

  • @nate4032 Piet Veerman - Sailing home, a Dutch singer :)

  • such a beautiful video. truly inspiring, ty

  • suck

  • Thumbs up if you dick...

  • Ships cant play limbo X(

  • i like how the bridge lifts after he wreaked his boat

  • selber Schuld pssssssss

  • what a plonker of a skipper not knowing the height of his boat or the bridge

  • @damiano776

    Wrong.

If you watch the bridge go down as he enters

  • o kurwa

  • captain: Arrr!

    Insurance company: What happened?

Captain: Arr some dumbass forgot to lift the bridge

Insurance company: well by the looks of it your ship is totaled

Captain: Arrr we need to get a different ship

  • i think somebody might get in trouble for this.

That could cost a few bucks to fix

  • This is why boats dont cross roads

  • STUPIDITY IS ENDLESS...SAD BUT VERY TRUE...

  • Hopefully this will get rid of all speculation. I know the bridge operator and his family personally. He was sick and on multiple medications which severely altered his state of alertness. He was called in to work that day on forced overtime ("work or you're fired"). Some responsability does fall on the operator however a very large portion falls on the Seaway due to making him work in unfit conditions... The labor code now protects employees from unsafe work

  • @NTRT11

No excuse. If it took the "labor code" this long to reflect common sense, there are much larger issues.

  • Was the captain drunk or what? How could anybody think that ship was going to fit under that bridge?

  • @JackKangaroo1 It's a draw bridge and it fit just fine when the bridge is completely open. Not so much when they start to close it.

  • @TexPhoto Okay, it's a draw bridge (technically called a "bascule" bridge) but couldn't this guy see that it was closing? And didn't he radio ahead to learn the status of the bridge? I work for a state DOT that operates lots of bascule bridges. There is a protocol that should be followed by boat captains when advancing upon one of these bridges. This guy screwed up big time.

  • @JackKangaroo1 No, technically that's a vertical-lift bridge. Was it the master/watch officer's fault, or the bridge tender or both? This is a well known historic event. Rather than speculate, why not look it up. 30 seconds with google shows: "investigation... impaired bridge operator lowered the bridge before the ship had cleared." Look it up on Wikipedia. Search: Allanburg, Ontario

  • @TexPhoto I guess it depends on what state you're in. Vertical lift or bascule bridge, six of one and half a dozen of another. In my state the bridge dept of DOT calls them "bascule" brides. As for the incident, I'll Google search and find out more about it. If the bridge operator screwed up then the boat owner has a helluva good lawsuit brewing on this one.

  • @JackKangaroo1 There are cameras all through the Canal, and the ships are continuously in contact, that wasnt the issue (you can listed to seaway Welland communicaas called in to work that day on forced overtime (work or you're fired). read my comment that I posted and it explains what actually happened

  • @NTRT11 Well then I'm sure the boat owner has a nice lawsuit in the works to collect damages from the bridge operators. Sure did mess up that boat.

  • Thanks:-D

  • what music is it?

  • @PeterGrzona sailing home by piet veerman

  • Love the music

  • Where did this happen at?

  • Bridge 1 ship 0

  • I can't help bu think of how much better this video would be with the actual sound from the clip rather than this music.

This music is perhaps some of the gayest music ever created.

  • I was working just down the canal when this happened. The stench from the smoke was terrible. The bridge operater was supposed to have the day off. He was drinking and was called to work. He told them he was in no condition to work or drive but was forced to go to work under duress. It was kept hush hush. Lucky no one was killed.

  • How to stop an boat without an brige? :P

  • Hey did the captain achive any licenses?

    too incredibel to be true

  • @singhaization It's not down to the Captain, it's down to the operator of the bridge that lowered the bridge onto the ship. From personal experience I can tell you that a lot of the bridge operators on the US waterways are unpleasant and I've had them start to lower the bridge as I was going through.

  • Not surprising at all and bound to happen one day given the shite, lazy attitude of the bridge operators up and down the waterways of the USA. They're that bone idle they part open bridges and shut them as you go through. If you radio about it they've got some kind of fuck-you answer lined up.

I hope the bridge operator is sued out of existence.

  • the ship had a big P on it…it stand for Pokemon Center

  • that bridge operator got to be fired

  • that wasnt all the boats fault the bridge was closing to soon look closely it would have made it if the bridge wasnt going down

  • Bridge hits Bridge

  • thats the weirdest looking ship ever!

  • Hi This is onstar help is on the way

  • theres an unemployed bridge operator right there

  • @zeke6785 not really, govt. employees usally get promoted

  • there should not be a valiant song playing to this video.

  • in soviet russia bridge hits ship.

  • shameful.

  • jerks

  • I hope no one was in the top

  • @sophiesnake Yeah it would be fatal probly mostly death

  • fatal means death idiot

  • p down! P down !

  • I love how the advertisement before it is snoopy driving a ship for insurance. i thought that was actually the vid at first LMAO!

  • Now it is a convertible ship. :P

  • redneck diy cabrio ship

  • Stupid Ship >.<''

  • damn bridges and trees and walls what the fuck are they good for? ooooo look at you you can make oxygen BIG WHOOP! ooo you hold up buildings!! WHO CARES! wow! you help truck, cars, trains cross stuff GET A REAL JOB!!! lazy objects

  • its not the captain's fault i saw it on tv. if you look good you see the bridge was closing.

  • who put this bridge on ship trace??

  • wait....Was the captain drunk or some shit....Didn't he do any calculations before passing ? I mean this is like...." just hit tht shit...Who cares " !!

  • @smartdon007

It wasn't the captain's fault. the bridge operator accidentally lowered the bridge before the ship passed through. you can see it if you look closely

  • oh shit

  • huston we going down

  • i happen to know that it was actually the bridge controller who was drunk and lowerd the bridge to early. thats a fact.

  • who the hell was doing the driving

  • oops

  • I can imagine Peter Griffin as the captian "What the hell was that noise? Sounded like... Crashing and glass breaking"

  • failfailfailfailfailfail

  • to much henikens! lol

  • theres a fukn ad on this?

  • the bridge made it look like a crumbling cookie

  • OMG wow hope no one got hurt

  • drunk ass bridge operator.....asshole

  • what happen the drawbridge controler drunk on duty and cannot open the drawbridge? wtf man

  • @robregD03100282 If I remember the story, yes he was drunk, he was called at the last minute when the other bridge operator couldnt make it.

  • lol at the people in the beginning just walking around like nothing is happening.

  • lame

  • wow the ships captain is a fucking dumb ass

  • @masonkent11 nope he wasn´t do you know anything about ships?

  • @masonkent11 umm no the guy operatiing the draw bridge is a dumbass since he was drunk on the job

  • Did people get hurt?

  • Elodea sounds like a weekend sailor to me. The bridge tenders do not open the bridges on command. There are procedures and radio communications to be adhered to.

  • @landis444 Oh really. I've been a licensed, all oceans master for over 40 years. If you think commercial vessels don't have right of way, YOU need to get out the rule books. The only time ANY Us/Canadian bridge can refuse a vessel passage is on hurricane or maintenance lockdown, with prior notice.

  • @Elodea want to be a licensed engineer

  • @badgerattoadhall What?? Move off the bridge and live down with the snipes???

  • @Elodea Yes I will be will be applying to the great lakes maritime academy in a month or so, and I will be taking their engineer program as opposed to the deck program. Why? Better job placement (engineers can work shore side in like power plants and stuff so there is somewhat less competition for jobs) and better pay.

  • @badgerattoadhall Hurry and get your ticket. I know where you can get an immediate berth on probably the last, large, reciprocating steam yacht in the world. SS DELPHINE. Twin, 1,500 hp, quad expansion engines. Built 1921 for Horace Dodge founder of Chrysler. The owner is looking for an engineer.

  • @Elodea i wont start the program till and wont finish the program till 2014 :(

  • i was there when this happened. It is the Allanburg Lift bridge of the welland canal. I was coming home from work on the Niagara Falls side of the welland canal. It was lift bridge operator error. On the opposite side of the ship, is a house where my friend lives, it is now an indian food restaurant. It simply was an awful night. came to rest at the corner of the canal right by the Hayes Dana Plant.

  • this bridge accident happened at Allanburg bridge, on Highway 20 heading into Niagara falls from the Welland Canal. I was on the other side(niagara falls side) on my way home to fonthill from work. The bridge operator was under the influence. I witnessed the whole thing, it was simply amazing.

  • CONVERTIBLE SHIP

  • stupid drunk bridge control

  • I wanna make love to this song

  • Where is the Video Taken?

  • @jorgos9

This happened in Ontario, Canada back in the mid 90's .The Bridge is on the Welland Canal between the towns of Thorold and Font Hill

  • Should be titled "Bridge hits Ship"

  • @jakphlash for sure, and that's one helluva well made bridge.

  • @Shauism If I recall correctly, the bridge operator was under the influence of "various chemical enhancements" and had been on duty well beyond his normal shift.

  • 0:02 'We can make it, WE CAN MAKE IT!'

    0:09 'Fuck we lost this.'

  • At 0:05 - 0:09, it looks like the bridge took the first devastating hit. Anyone know if the bridge was evacuated in time/

  • @marineur2

It's a lift bridge, so when a boat get's within a certain distance, all cars have to stop at the stop lights on either side until the boat crosses.I remember I used to go this way alot and had to re-route for a while until they fixed the bridge.

  • "Sailing home" => Piet Veerman

  • "Captain to the bridge... No! Not THAT ONE!!!"

  • @KrautGoesWild LMAO xDD

  • What's the title of the song?

  • in canada too eh

  • "Hey, you scratched my bridge."

  • Lol to the song!!

  • Dive! Dive! [whoop whoop from the siren]

  • bridges dont move the ship has breaks...therefore the fucking ship made a fatal mistake fuck him

  • @liroyals4 hey fuckface a ship has no brakes it has a bow thruster it has his props and a ship cant stop in a dime it needs a path of several hundred feet at least and he has got no stern anchor so he could not have used that either therefor it could not stop he did nog made a fatal mistake the bridge tenders open the bridge at request (and as first mate on a sailing vessel i think i know how it works)

  • @falcotje

    lol are you retarded?

  • @liroyals4 It's a lift bridge, which does move, ships don't have brakes, and there's something called inertia. When a propeller screw stops spinning in the water, it doesn't exactly have the same effect as when you force a wheel top stop against pavement. Water is kinda more slippery than ground, which you may have noticed.

  • @Sactreats looks like the bridge was lowering. that will get a bridge operator fired.

  • we can clearly see the bridge going down as the ship approach, the bridge tender must be blamed for that

  • Hope they didnt block the side street to Holland Rd with firetrucks...

  • whats up with the song man i'm sorry this shit funny

  • someone wasn't at the birds nest!!!!

  • I remember seeing this. That was the captain at 0:50 getting ready to jump off the ship lol.

  • @southForzaMK2 sorry but he was closing the emergency valve's and close off al the doors and alarming the crew

  • what song ?!

  • @tracerab sailing home

  • CONVERTIBLE :D

  • CONVERTIBLE :D

  • @Gebruikersnaam10011 HAHA! faggot you would look good in a convertable you queer fuck

  • ive watched this many times now and just figured out what the problem was. The bridge was to low

  • @kayam2002 how stupid you cant be ....

  • to quote homer simpson. DOH!

  • Because im sure the wealthy-ass guy rich enough to OWN the yacht wouldn't be able to pay the damage, right?

  • @firefly3466 You're an idiot. That yacht is obviously used to bring in money the same way people pay to stay in a hotel. It's not a several thousand ton vessel made for one man's enjoyment. Some people...

  • Who's the fucking idiot controlling the bridge to go up and down?, he should get the fucking bill for the ship.

  • Lets just hope nobody was hurt. What a fantastic song. Does anyone know what its called?

  • @stevenjo1966

Piet Veerman - Sailin' Home (1987) (search on youtube)

  • maybe the sign holland rd is to blame. the dutch meassure in meters not feet.......

  • @sjeessjees nobody fucking uses feets, only u assholes

  • the bridge operator, was called in, and was on some sort of painkillers, the seaway was aware but needed him to take the shift, and lowered the bridge too soon obv.. so really seaway at fault,, i used to live right along the welland canal, where this happened..

  • I've seen this before. It was the Bridge Operator who was at fault. He started lowering the bridge way too early. The captain in the wheelhouse barley escaped.

  • What happened here ?

  • thats freaky..

  • that's a shame.

  • Dumb motherfucker...

  • Damn, there goes my no claims bonus!!!!! Shiiiiiiit.

  • the bridge is being lowered as he goes through dang

  • Look at the light on top of the bridge (middle)! (0:07)

    Green = free pass

    Red = passage prohibited

  • 0:06 WOOHOO convertible :D

  • Looks like our captain was napping or something.

  • Haha! I like the sigh that says:

    "Holland Rd.

Do Not block the side street"

  • hahaha winner

  • This sort of thing happens all the time in Duluth.

  • Id like to see the rest if this video and see what happened to the ship itself.

  • that was total pwnage! i wander if the bridge is okay. lol

  • What a nightmare... I feel realy sorry for the guy !!!
