Ronnie was not only the best vocalist in hard rock and metal,he also was a college educated extremely intelligent human being..He was an absolute monster lyricist and worked every day
on being an all around artist and producer..I had the joy of being his confidant for 30 years and I was blessed..He was kind and always positive but a perfectionist when it came to his music..I miss him dearly and I am just now able to listen to him again..R.I.P. My brother..
Dio is my favorite singer, I have all his Rainbow, Sabbath, DIO albums. He was the best chest singer of the world with F. Mercury , not like some of those falsetto singers. He was born catholic, then he became atheist, but his lyrics are so subversive for the holy church. He always used metaphors, his lyrics have sometimes multiple meanings, it's the mark of a great lyricist.
he knew it he knew it he knew that music was going 2 die from that shit people listen to these days :) jenifer lopez's new video has 400 milion view .. and if u listen to fools the mob rules \m/
who the fuck is the.. ohh man .. he is an idiot bullshit.. fuck you DIO..
if you say something like that.. believe me i will find you and kill you..and when police arrives i would look their eyes and i would say "there is one reason that regret about going jail,i am sorry.. and that reason is that coudnt kill more of the dickheads"
Ronnie James Dio was very often (and rightfully so) recognized as one of the greatest metal vocalist in the world. I used to favored Rob Halford more but recently my view have changed and I will have to say that I think Ronnie James Dio was the best metal vocalist in the world. But what have been often ignored was due rightful recognition of his amazing talent as a vocalist was that Ronnie James Dio was one of the outstanding and poetic lyricist in the metal world. We miss you Dio. RIP.
@unorthodoxtrotsky Halford is just a falsetto singer, like Plant and Gillan and many others. Ask Halford to sing chest like DIO or Mercury and you will see the result. Dio never used falsettos.
As much as you are right, it's also true that falsetto also have very special and unique role in the traditional Heavy Metal vocal. As much as both of us agree with the greatness of Ronnie James Dio's vocal skills(and Freddy Mercury too) over Rob Halford's(who is still undeniably talented vocalist even if one consider Dio's skills to be more superior), I will still put Halford's vocal (and his falsetto) as the important element of traditional Heavy Metal vocal.
:)))) I thought that was your stand but I just wanted to make sure. :) One of the major reason why I put Dio above Halford is due to his vocal skills but also from my numerous experiences of listening to him live. The way he carry on his vocal from song after song and his ability diversify his feelings are just amazing. Have you ever heard "At Donington UK Live 1983 & 1987"? JUST AMAZING!!!!!
You know, I had never seen Priest live until recently (since they were never quite at the top of my list)... but I have to say, after catching their goodbye tour... holy crap. I have never, ever seen a vocalist do live what Halford did. He was so powerful, and never hit a note wrong the whole night.
My favs will always be Bruce and Dio, but I have never seen either perform live anywhere close to what I saw Halford do. No disrespect intended.
I've favored Rob over Dio most of my life as a fan and it was only recently that my view changed more toward Dio without EVER denying the greatness of Rob Halford. If you think Halford is great in live today, he was WAY BETTER back in the 70's and 80's as was with Dio. Unfortunately, I think neither are as good as they were during their prime but nonetheless, they are still the legends. Halford's vocal is quintessential Heavy Metal vocal while Dio have greater dynamics.
If you listen to the vocal of Dio's "We Rock" and intro of "Don't Talk To Strangers", it's difficult to believe that they are all by same vocalist. That's the dynamic of Dio's vocal unequal to most of metal vocalists. I was at the Halford concert(not Judas Priest but Rob's solo band) where he opened for Iron Maiden. I arrived there little late and Halford was already playing. I can hear his voice all the way out in the parking lots and recognized his voice. AMAZING.
"There's perfect harmony/In the rising and the falling of the sea/And as we sail along/I never fail to be astounded by/The things we'll do for promises", "We bring you beautiful/We teach you sin/We can give you a piece of universe/Or we will disappear/Never to return again.", "They say you are beautiful/And they will always let you in/But doors are never open/To the child without a trace of sin." These are one of the finest lines. As I love Dio's lyrics, I think this song have the best lines.

@middlefingerpuppet I'm sure that Lady Gaga is listening to Dio tho. She has a rock background. Even her name is taken from Queen's Radio Gaga song. In addition she has studied music and she is composing her songs her self. And before you attack, I'm mainly listening to metal.
@TheWaveofthe80s I do not understand you comparing this song with Last in Line the subject matter is not the same at all and LIL is a power song more a dramatic description of a perceived worldly dichotomy
Honestly... this song is good but not great... kind of a weaker version of "Last in Line". The song itself is great, but it could have been delivered with a bit more strength all around and had a more well-defined ending.
However, the angelic babes were HOT!!! and very well dressed! Makes the vid worth watching over and over ^U^
Everytime I listen to this beautiful song, I feel touched inside and tears fight for coming out of my eyes, it's so fucking unfair that Ronnie went away.. A nice person, a great artist.. The greatest metal singer, and despite of this a humble and kind person. Rest in peace Ronnie, thanks for so many great moments you gave to us... Eternal glory for Ronnie James Dio, eternal glory for heavy metal!
This is one of those songs that just showed one of Dio's many sides. He could be Hard, he could yell, shout, scream, and then be soft, melodic, charming. This is one of those songs that shows just how much Dio impacted music, and how much he will be missed for decades to come. Rest in Peace, Brother.
It always astounds me that a few can and could control control tthe multitudes I mean look at all the world leaders they are the and the world is the multitude, do control everyone like wise someday.....the anti-Christ will control the whole earth(including governments) they will be the multitude and clearly the Anti-Christ will be the few, subduing the entire earth,......Just something too think about
Every Dio song is based on true events and most of his videos reflect this. Take Holy Diver for example, Dio really did wander the wilderness with a sword in hand.
one year ago today (may 16) the world lost one of the greatest artists it had ever seen. you body may be gone but your heart and soul lives on in the words you so beautify crafted. R.I.P. Dio. I can think of no better song to tribute such a great man.
I saw Doro Pesch live about 3 weeks ago and when she said .. we recently lost a briliant musician and we love you Ronnie! it gave me goose bumps.. kinda felt like Ronnie was there watching over us.. R.I.P!
I met him a few times, and well, he was awesome. On stage, he is a musical God, but off stage he is JUST like you and me. He wanted to be taken for a regular guy. He wanted to hear your opinions, good or bad. He liked to laugh at the same stupid jokes we did. He wanted to be treated as one of the guys, but he always ended up treating YOU as the star. A real genius, a real person and a real friend to his friends. The industry needs someone like him again.
If you go back to Dio's beginnings in his High School bands and Through ELF , Rainbow, BS, and DIO you will see that RONNIE was capable of singing several types of rock and other Genres quite well, he was very versatile and also very intelligent
R.I.P. RONNIE JAMES DIO.

Yeah, in the end the top metal vocalists are hard to compare. They sing with different styles and often very different types of songs.
For me, Dio was always the more melodic vocalist, while other top metal singers sometimes had more power and/or range.
But anyway, no comparison is necessary, they are all great. I just wanted to say how amazed I was with Halford since I saw you were a big fan :)

one year ago today (may 16) the world lost one of the greatest artists it had ever seen. you body may be gone but your heart and soul lives on in the words you so beautify crafted. R.I.P. Dio. I can think of no better song to tribute such a great man.

These lyrics contains so much reality and levity that even the song can't bear them...Excellent lyrics......And so true.
