  • Your level of honesty in your songwriting astounds me. You're not afraid to lay it all out there, which is what makes you a great songwriter. And the way you arrange your vocals around all of that is just perfect.

  • Thanks Mate

  • Thanks Kimmo, I'll let you know if I find out.

  • can't believe i almost missed this one matt. my ABSOLUTE favorite. your vocal is rougher and grittier than usual to convey the pain and bitterness you mustve felt writing these words, (assuming it's autobiographical.) and sounds AMAZING..

'one day soon she's gonna hear me on the radio'

thats for sure. thanks for bringing me here this morning.

  • Thank you my friend

  • Like the way the melody comes in full force. Sometimes it is a challenge to figure out how a song should begin - will it build? If it comes in full force, how to keep it interesting throughout? - but you made the perfect choice there,

You like to toss in non-standard movements, don't you Matt? The "why she left" line is pining for a C to resolve nicely to G, but you went with an F instead. It has a C in it so there is some resolution, but it introduces a whole new dynamic...

  • continued....

You did it again! The middle bridge wants to land on a C but you go to an F. I'd really like to see what could be layered on top to spotlight the movement. On this part in particular, you could slap a really cool bass mini-solo. The bass could be structured to lead the song into the chorus.

I like the final couple seconds the song closes but the ending does drag a little. You could probably cut out one or two of the chorus stanzas without harming the overall feel...

  • continued again...

Either that, or some layering to make the song feel like it is continuing to progress through the repeating.

The second verse would sound super cool with some simplistic lead work on top. You structured it nicely to work as a solo piece while still leaving plenty of room for additional tracks.

  • Cheers Justin, about the ending, I had just written the song, as I got to the end I was thinking Shit, how do I end this, hadn't thought about the end, thats why It goes on a bit, trying to work out what to do. So it's improvised, wanted to end it on a G but it fell on a C for some reason.

    Matt

  • i can feel the sadness....a bit of sorrow through this song.5 stars Matt...i really liked it

  • Will do.

  • Great job Matt! Very passionate! *****

  • Thanks Juan

  • You're incredible. You truly are... and gosh, I know how "old fart" this is going to sound, but I detected a really nice mid-70s Rod Stewart sound to your vocal on this one... having shared chips and dip with him at a house party - I can say that this is a compliment (like the guy - what can I say).

I really love your arrangements and lyrics... wow, I'm real impressed.

  • Thank you very much, had a few people mention the Rod Stewart sound, but I don't think any of them have shared chips and dips with him.

    Thanks for the compliment.

    Matt

  • Hi, great song I was writing the back ground music in my head when I was listining to you play. Its got alot of potential. I see people like your music. Remember what I said when you first started? You were like an artist waiting to be discovered. A talented one at that--P.S. I still like your chord arangments too.

  • I remember my friend, you were the first to discover me, never forget that.

    Thanks my friend.

    Matt

  • I'm really envious of how quickly you can write songs! Seems like you always have a new original up! Keep up the good work, I like this one.... kind of has a Glen Hansard feel to it, the raw angst kind of sound. I like!

  • Thank You, never heard of Glen Hansard I'll check him out.

    Matt

  • Hi, Matt!

Oh wow, at times if I were to close my eyes, I would swear that Rod was right there...let's see...a song about drinking? Yeah, I could see Rod having done that. Hey wait...didn't he do one not too long ago called "Cigarettes and Alcohol?"

I thought this was just great and the sound of your vids is always so clear. One thing I noticed with this one, though was the strange way that everything kept being light and dark. Was that intentional, Matt? Great vocal and song. I mean it.

  • It keeps going light and dark because of the camera, the light from the window and me moving me head, glad you liked the song.

    Matt

  • the singing is good, kinda rod stewartish
