  • If you were around at that time and weren't living out in the desert somewhere then you knew what was going on with music if that was your bag.About the same time the Ramones showed up on the scene Johny Rotten was spitin and cussing at the queen in the UK gettin her in a tizzy;it was all over the news;this was like 74'-76'(its hard to remember)when DK did this in 80' it was still a year before MTV.Every generation has a % that says FUCK THE SYSTEM & THE MAN This DAMN SURE says FUCK THE SYSTEM

  • This song is genius if you know why it was made. Music cooperation brought in Dead Kennedys and were going to sign them to a deal as they figured they were part of the New Wave. This pissed them off so at the awards show, the only time they recorded/did this song they said everybody we're no longer a punk band, we have to show we're adults. Pulled out the ties and shits with dollar bills on them and sang this song.

  • The fact that jb's even mention'd in the top comments makes me hate the world.

  • wish someone would do this on the fucking x wank final... prefab superstars still shit.

  • Anybody else think that Jello sounds like weird Al a little bit?

  • Dead Kennedys to the fucking end godammit!

  • punks not dead its just hungover

  • There's always room for Jello!!!

  • i wanna be a prefab superstar

    like yello

  • Dk forever!! Wheres my fuckn jello?

  • This song proves that punk is all about the attitude, and the message you convey.

There may be a "punk song" but without a message and attitude, it crumbles.

Being awesome is always a bonus too, as in the case of the DK.

  • if i could actually sing, i'd try out for american idol with this song

  • @SexyHexyKitty HE cant fkn sing*, so why the hell not.

*he "can" sing. just not "well". sounds like the guy from LOVE SHACK. good times :)

  • this song is awesome

  • Everybody. Put your hands together. SHUT UP AND DANCE EVERYBODY!!!

  • glad to see people posting good shit

  • is my???

  • Definatley my fav DK song, they're so well -rehearsed for a one time only song and it has everything: ska, awesome solo, sampling of another song, classic lyrics, and a big fuck you to the tv show they were on.

  • hey fucker!i commented!r u happy??ts ts ts....

  • yeah....the truth...has been for decades :)

  • HALÁLOSAN HATALMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song = accurate description of most Idol contestants

  • The beginning threw me off .___.

  • @thedirtyhippie01

haha that happen to me years ago. this song rules

  • @pitaapartayy Fuck yeah it does

  • ,,shut up and dance"

    love it :D

  • fucking great!

  • Dk we dont sell girlscout cookies here dk

  • yeah, fuck the ramones! :)

  • @thatsMRtaylor2u i'm pretty sure this song is about the knack rather than the ramos :)

  • Oh Dead Kennedys. You're one of the very few bands I can think of that mixed music and satire. We really need way more of that. Cuz we got some good TV satire in the Colbert Report and the Onion. But we need more music satire.

Man I miss the Dead Kennedys

  • @zzyzx0788 not everyone likes it, but frank zappa also has lots of satire in his music. though it isn't punk like, like this.

  • @megasam10000 Got any good songs in mind that I can look up. Satire is like crack to me

  • @zzyzx0788 :D it would be a pleasure. he made over 60 albums so there's plenty of it. 'jewish princess' 'flakes' 'bobby brown goes down' 'harder than your husband' 'why does it hurt when i pee?'

flakes is kinda a satire of bob dylan and 'beatles medley' makes fun of the beatles. not in a bad way though.

  • @megasam10000 His instrumentals were amazing too.

  • @cartmammainia ofcourse.

  • Jesus Christ I didn't know Lou Ferrigno was in the Dead Kennedys!!!

  • @AleksandarMitrevski Real punks don't bitch about modern musicians.

  • @clonecomanderfox have you listened to the lyrics of this song? maybe chickenshit conformist would better explain to you.

    punk is shite.

  • Ugh, what the fuck is this shit??

I was searching for some good-quality EMO!!

    *user slits wrists*

  • @ParadiXe311 seems like this song fits the emo category too.

  • Mike Hunt

  • I like the groove of this song

  • "M-m-m-my Payola!"

  • dont think i would have made it through high school

  • wow the knack got owned.

  • @AleksandarMitrevski I wish I could give that comment 1,000 thumbs up.

  • Drool Drool Drool Drool, my payola!

  • @AleksandarMitrevski this statement is almost worth creating a dozen more accounts just to give this a thumbs up even more.

  • no cock no brains..good enough!!

  • Damn, I recently got into Rock music a couple years ago, and am starting to get in more on Punk Rock.

Anyone suggest any real Punk bands like this, doesn't matter what time they are from.

  • @MusicalRelease

    Sex pistols

    The clash

Reagan youth (don't be put off by any of their album covers, their anti racist)

    The subhumans

    Circle jerks

Just some I like but there are so many like minor threat which are quite hardcore punk and others like bad religion and black flag. Most of the bands I listed are quite well known in punk so they would be pretty good to start off with

  • @silentsniper125 Thanks man

  • @MusicalRelease minor threat the faith the void ss decontrol dri mdc the germs crass and shit like like that

  • @MusicalRelease Hi there, I'm 35 and also adore DK since maybe 15 years. My personnal advice would be the great great speedcore album named "Something to prove" by the Spermbirds, a german band which singer changed since then. So it's different. If you wanna go crazy in another way try The Toy Dolls, 25 years existence, many many hits. Try "Toccata in DM" My wife's a psychopath" or "Idle Gossip" among plenty !

And don't forget the worldly beloved Punk Rock Popes ; The Ramones.

  • @MusicalRelease Besides Dead Kennedys? Operation Ivy (my personal favorite), Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Religion, Bad Brains, NOFX, Rancid, Stiff Little Fingers, Leftover Crack, Subhumans, GBH, Conflict, Crass.

There's a pretty good variety from 70s to now, and from different styles if you ever wanna know

  • @AleksandarMitrevski thats because what is going on now has been going on for 30+ years now, its really nothing new

  • @centralscrutinizer13 im sure he wasnt fond of it, many metal bands in the 80s kicked ass though and loved punk bands, motorhead, megadeth, slayer, sodom, overkill etc. the hair shit was only segment of it

  • Anyone who likes this song should research into why it was ever performed (They were supposed to play California Uber Alles). It's makes me proud to be a punk.

  • I dont know. Am I supposed to hate this song for being 'new wave'?

    I love it.

damn Dead Kennedys making everything good.

  • 16 guys said they didn't like this video, I guess their strings are to tight

  • This song always reminds me of Nickelback.

  • kesha has tits? why wasnt i told this.

  • the "is my cock big enough" part came on right when i got in my car at walmart with people right next to me. i laughed my ass off.

  • I like how my sharona is in there

  • @AleksandarMitrevski Actually popular music has always sucked, so really it's pointed at all shitty music.

  • guys the solo is just part of the act to nake fun of the solo itself ummm get it. he is making fun of it

  • @AleksandarMitrevski i concur

  • Twinkies are the best friend I've ever had.

  • i love the pink twinkies

  • Sort of ironic that the Dead Kennedy's did this song.

  • @IwroteHansmoleman How so? Are they not known for their political incorrectness?

  • @IwroteHansmoleman Well, the rest of the Dead Kennedys Save for Jello. The rest tried to sell out, so they sued Jello.

  • I wish someone would infiltrate American Idol by singing constantly shit songs, until they made it to the final and sang this song instead.

  • @thestranger4812 haha thats my new life goal

  • @thestranger4812 I think it would be a lot better to do this on MTV!

  • that's one of the few things i don't agree with Jello. Guitar solos are music whether he likes it or not. I think Hans Christian Anderson said "Where words fail, music speaks" and i agree on that. That's because music holds more emotional charge than words and songs are a great and powerful combination between these mediums. Anyway i love the DK the way they are - too complicated for punk and too sharp for rock, just can't put labels on them.

  • I agree with you 100 percent dude.

  • @0live0wire0 I'm pretty sure Jello doesn't hate solos themselves as much as the notion of an "obligatory" solo thrown into a song just to make it more marketable, whether the song needed it or not.

  • @0live0wire0 Agreed. Even if it was done jokingly, I really enjoyed it and I don't care who knows it

  • @0live0wire0 But, alot of solos suck to and aren't intelligent at all.

  • @0live0wire0 Andersen*

  • Shut up and dance everybody.

I fucking love Jello he's so funny and smart

  • ahh i thought this was a different version of california uber alles

  • The people who are saying the solo is good are stupid. Jello said that the solo was making fun of all the 70's bs solos that ever happend.

  • just because he is making fun of it doesnt mean you cant appreciate the beauty of the solo.

  • I love this song. It is one of my favourites from the band.

  • pretty rare these days that you find lyrics this blunt and socially conscious...

what am i saying, it's always been that way

  • best best been listening to this song my whole life. better prove were adults now.... watch?v=X84iEfkR8is

  • @AleksandarMitrevski whoa my dude

im all for what you said the other two is spot on, but gaga

do research before you say stuff. she writes her own stuff, she's very intelligent

& artsy, gaga's very punk rock in my book. she does what ever she pleases the only difference is

a bank account, & the mainstream.watch an interview or two you dont have to be a fan,

but she does deserve respect. :) &she loves gays, enough said.

  • 1:38 Hahaha making fun of The Knacks' "My Sharona" Love it.

  • @AleksandarMitrevski well, gaga might have a big dick. people still aren't sure about that. but somewhere on youtube there's a video of her covering led zeppelin when she wasn't lady gaga yet. it's weird how that goes

  • the solo is so fucking good

  • jello "eric boucher" biafra and the dead kennedys best all around punk band ever

  • Love this tune

  • anybody else know the real story behind this?

  • @DrOwnage97 Search "pull my string" at wikipedia.

  • @AleksandarMitrevski well, gaga probably has a big cock as well.

  • @megasam10000 She does i saw a video

  • is my cock big enough!!!!!!!

  • @MLGRegulaR

    yes, it is...

  • HOLD IT..... WE got to prove were adults now...

  • who is that singing in the background after jello says everyone sing it one time i always picture it as klaus but i can picture east bay ray doing it

  • @stateofeuphoria12 It's klaus, I just saw them do it

  • @stateofeuphoria12 Its East Bay Ray, 80% sure

  • timeless

  • Great song. Love DK. Does anyone know where I could see actual footage of this song? I think that they played only once at an awards ceremony.

  • Dead Kennedys Never DEAD

  • Comment removed

  • 14 people like Justin Bieber.

  • @MangoSalsa Actually, I doubt any of Justin Bieber's fans have ever been w/i 100 miles of DK, or any other hardcore band. Despite their lyrical and musical prowess, DK remains rather underground. Which is why it's odd that people would go out of their way to dislike a song that most people have never heard of by a band that most people have never heard of.

  • @artistwithouttalent Eh, DKs aren't underground. They're well-liked; they were underground in the day.

  • @CrawdaddyJoe Fair enough, but that's within punk as a movement. I imagine if you asked a random survey of people, most wouldn't know about DK; in particular anyone who listens to Beiber.

  • @artistwithouttalent who is justin bieber?!?!

  • @youlyssess *slowly claps*

  • it fascinates me how most of the dead kennedeys songs apply to modern times equally or even more than when they actually came out!!!

  • @facethruster138 Well, history has this funny habit of repeating itself when you don't know it.

  • Forever got me hooked.

  • One of their best songs... Punk rock doesn't get much better than that.

  • I won't offend or rock the boat, just sex and drugs and rock and roll!

  • I've a small cock and a Big Brain, what can i do to be a superstar? To have a lot of money, or to fuck some big breast's women???

  • @clementles No. You have to BECOME a big breast woman.

  • @clementles No. You have to BECOME a big breast woman!!!

  • EARGASMS.

    dk=Win!:D <3

  • Would love to see a movie made about DK someday...

  • 15 dislikes must be emo-punk fans who hate the true sound of punk.

  • @diemutha666 Either that or nazi punks.

  • Man, these guys had some balls to basically fuck the bay area music awards in the mouth like that. seriously, i have mad respect for these guys now that i've read the back story on this song. i'd like to see any one of the so called 'badass' musicians of today do something like this. but they won't because they're too worried about sucking dick to further their career.

  • i aint no artist im a business man......

  • nice solo!!!

  • @antipopboner Yeah! It's bad ass! I have to learn it.

  • Everyone, the wonderfully intelligent YouTube community!

Shut the fuck up and listen to the song.

  • Holy Fuckin Shit. Jello Biafra is my hero of the day! Goddamnit he's singing about my fucking art class, I hate the shit outta those sell out suck up bastards. Oh the rage. I wanna punch someone in the face. why am i not at a show right now? I want so bad to just yell this at the top of my lungs to those fucks.

  • best texte ever!!

  • jello biafra 2012

  • i just love the story behind this song

  • fuck cant wait to see em at the house of blues on dec. 3

  • To story behind this song :)

    wikipedia ,org /wiki/ Pull_My_Strings

  • Is there a studio version of this song?

Or is this a cover or something?

  • @LieutenantIDan this song was written specifically for an award show they were asked to play california uber alles. its the only time they ever performed it. you should check wikipedia for the whole story.

  • @JakRules365 Ah. Thanks, friend.

  • @LieutenantIDan please dont listen to DK we dont need dumb asses following this band

  • @plasticcat1285 Nice way to look intelligent with no grammar, you stupid fucking twat.

Now, all I was doing was asking if this was only a one time song or if they did a studio version of this. I'll listen to what the fuck ever I want, and if you've a problem with that, shove it up your ass and shut the fuck up, because nobody cares.

  • @LieutenantIDan i may not put in enough periods or commas or anything else but i do know about punk rock. So go listen to my chemical romance or something

  • @plasticcat1285 Way to come up with something original, you stupid pig.

Why would i listen to that pathetic swill? the logic of a delusional idiot is the most difficult to deal with.

Don't you have something better to do like shaking down three year olds to feel big or something?

You're the one who's too unoriginal to leave numbers out of your username and too stupid to use punctuation, so I doubt you should be lecturing me on Punk, if you're too stupid to use periods.

  • @LieutenantIDan i bet your dad jacks off during sex

  • @plasticcat1285 What the fuck does that even MEAN?

  • its time for punk to take over the fucking world.

  • Ain't this fuckin' true.

  • i bet everyone at the show thought they were doing california uber alles at the beginning

  • this is hardcore at its best ...punk is needed to remind us our stupid governments politics ...Demon 'east 'los angeles ..

  • What was the story about this song again? I remember hearing about it...they were at an award show I think...and they did this song rather than what they were supposed to? Something like that. If anybody knows the details, answer me gosh-dangit.

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds Well, obviously they were supposed to be doing California Uber Alles, but where was this at again? An MTV thing? And they never did this song again, right? That's what I remember hearing when I was a kid.

  • They were asked to play at the Bay Area Music Awards to give the event some "New Wave credibility". They were supposed to play California Uber Alles, then 15 seconds in Biafra yells "HOLD IT!". They had white shirts with an S in the middle, and pulled ties from around their necks to make dollar signs. From there its attacking the the mainstream industry and making fun of the The Knack's new wave "My Sharona".

Gotta love em I already had a ton of respect before I heard about this

  • @venomviper32 Right, right. I knew it was something like that. Thanks for the info. I know, that's such a great story. Jello was the coolest guy from that whole era, if you ask me. I think it's lame, though, that they are continuing to use the DK name without him. I read somewhere where he called them "the greediest karaoke band in the world", haha.

  • "Is my cock big enough, is my brain small enough, for you to make me a star?".

  • @DumbD0wnSociety yes you heard it right, you get a cookie

  • great song :)))

  • i love that part after the guitar wen someone goe... UUUUUAAAAAAAAA HOOOOOO ! or something. hahaha its fuking great.

  • o kad se sjetim, 16 godina u parku i cugamo

oh, when I remember, 16 years, in the park, and drinking

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

  • My favorite DK song. I don't think it could be stated any better. Oh, on a side note, when I was a kid, my mom heard me singing along with the chorus at the top of my lungs, and she came into my room, grabbed the CD and snapped it in half.

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty She must've been too goddamn conservative to take real chances.

  • @Veggieman87 I think she was just being a protective mother. I'm sure if we sat down and discussed the meaning behind the song, she'd come around.

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty I agree, I just liked the opportunity to use MTV Get Off the Air lyrics.

  • @Veggieman87 Haha, oops, didn't pick up on that one!

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty

    :O I'd snap her neck...

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty You should have snapped her in half

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty tell your mom, NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF!

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty Good thing you can back up music now. "Can't go around snapping mp3 files mom, now get out of my room."

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty ... Similarly, my dad threw out all 66 albums I had at age 15. Give Me Conv....was one of 'em...D'oh!!!

  • your mom is a bitch.

  • damn theyr good.

gonna seee them in concert soonn :]

  • MY PAYOLA!

  • SHUT UP AND DANCE EVERYBODY!!!
