man o man...im a good girl gone bad, gone good again....but boy o boy...stevie stirs something inside me...even here what is he about 38, 40?? ......still cheeky as hell....sweet boyish eyes, cheeky grin.....flippin eck i seriously wanna...ummm....yeah....i wana let my hair hang down, so to speak ;P....Stevie is the spunkiest frontman to any band ever...he kicks Jaggar's, Hutchence's, Morrison's and everyone else's asses any day...I LOVE YOU STEVIE XXXXXXXXX
Ever since I found this video, I have to watch it, every morning and evening. I was too young to appreciate Stevie in the 60's, but since I discovered this video a month ago, I'm doing a lot of catching up!
Stevie hated the Bowie version and was never in line for the acdc gig. Bon and he had different ranges! Keep an ear out for the stage show Stevie the life and music of Stevie wright and the easybeats!!
@mrbillhicks Life's like that. I know he's been through hell & back. The output, however, is the result of having lived a life. I'm considerably older than you, Mr. Hicks. 44!?! Watch what happens to you. The difference between decade to decade is positively bizarre. Once middle-age is upon us we shift - physically - with such momentum that it will make your head spin. Such shifts in our appearance aren't even contingent on the lifestyle we've led. It's age. Don't judge or compare.
@irynski Someone seems rather interested in old Billy boy, checking out my profile to find out my age... By the way irnski.. your's would suggest that you are fucking weird.... Check it out folks... Fucking weird !!!
@mrbillhicks Please define, "WEIRD". I may be weird (as if you're the first person to judge me!!!!), but I'm meticulous. Look at you: impressed with your own big banana when you haven't established how big the average banana is! Nought wrong with weird if weird knows what weird is. Being convinced of being the biggest banana is sad, sad, sad. I wouldn't deign to comment on other people's comments without having researched (to the best extent I can) who they are. WEIRD is an easy judgement call.
@mrbillhicks I hope that, for your own sake, you can come up with a better line of derisive schlock. Think of the difference between being 1 & 21... the difference between being 21 & 41... & so it goes on until we cease to exist. Forget about the 20 years as some sort of benchmark: 10 year periods serve more than adequately. Has your life been so cleanly delineated that you can judge others because they haven't lived up to your exacting principles? I'll wager that you've always been repulsive.
@mrbillhicks It was the enforced stay in Chelmsford psych hospital that fucked our Stevie. A conservative OZ attitude formed an opinion ,based on ignorance and newspaper reports from overseas, that all pop singers were drug addicted sex maniacs . Stevie ,like a lot of talented folks suffered from depression and this was misdiagnosed by a real nutcase doctor who subjected Stevie to long periods of drug induced sleep. it completely ruined him and it was years before Chelmsford was exposed.
@Mercmad I'm utterly horrified to read this- Little Stevie- in that chamber of horrors?????? OMG!! Poor darling, no wonder he looked so damn crook in the last pic I saw of him.
@Mercmad :just read your comments from 3 months ago and so glad that you wrote this comment to set the record straight. Some lunatic psychiatrist decided he was going to do live experiments on people. Some,he filled with drug coctails, others he did psychosurgery and stuck metal plates in their heads. This evil-doer got Lil Stevie in for a few days.According to an interview,Stevie woke up,knew he was in the wrong place-wrapped a jumper round his legs and bolted!!(ps I own a 190e and a 300e)jk,sydney
Bravo Stevie! I'm in California and never had the chance to see you in person but I want you to know there's a lot of people that love you yesterday and today. You are my hero.
@joolee75 This song was done at the Australian Bicentennial Concert in 1987. If you were there (I mean in the 60's as well as then, as I was) this is an historical recital. Stevie came back from the dead to do this great performance. Stuff the brass section; it's still great.
The concert; "Under the Southern Cross" showcased MANY brilliant 'aussie talent' including Masters Apprentices, Darryl Braithwaite, Men at Work, Ross Wilson, Russell Morris, Skyhooks, Brain Cadd, Max Merrit, the late-great; Billy Thorpe and a host of others!!
This sits proudly amongst my music-videos...thanks HEAPS for sharing this 'highlight' of Stevie Wright!
The Easybeats are easily the most talented '60s band that missed out on making it to the big time world wide. They did however score a top 10 US hit with Friday on My Mind in 1966. Possibly it was not a hit in Canada. Get hold of one of their 'best of' CD's and you'll be amazed at the dozen killer songs that were top 10 in Australia and the UK. Check out the other yourtube clips of songs like 'Sorry', 'I'll Make You Happy", Wedding Ring', 'St Louis', etc.
@glenlyons98 Quite correct, a small story for you Paul McCartney heard this song driving in his Car and commented it was one of the best songs of its time. David Bowie also did a good cover version
@joannehall2916 When they were in Holland for some concerts, (1966) my friends and I got to see them and had a great 'night out' with Steve and the rest afterwards.... that was awesome and a lot of fun!
Thanks for that! I can believe it. I read that he hated being short. I wonder if it had something with being born in the Age of Austerity in Britain. Maybe that is why his family left! People are so much taller now.
Your welcome. Yeah I read somewhere that he didn't like being called "Little Stevie," but I don't think he minds too much these days, its sorta his trademark now. Maybe that could be linked to his height, with the rations and all, I'm not sure, but it could be. Course Stevie's parents were not the tallest people around either. I think he is so cute because of his height. I am 5'4" myself, so he is just my size. lol.
Ooo, giving Stevie a make-over, now that sounds fun! (not that he needs any) but perhaps it would be fun to play with his hair. I could really like that. :D
Do you know what happened to Stevie's life in those twenty years? Shocking is a good word to describe it. The very fact was still in fine form here is amazing. He was wearing the fashions of the time and looking good. Good on you Stevie!
Stevie slipped in and out of a MAJOR battle with heroin and alcohol, and in the early eighties took part in controversial "deep sleep" therapy that almost destroyed him mentally. This guy has really seen some lows. Search his name to see what he looks like today, there is some live footage of him performing in Australia. It is TOTALLY amazing that he still does, and demonstrates how resilient his character really is.
I was lucky to meet Stevie Wright recently and traded a few lyrics with his song (in my book) one of my favs a Australian legend
