What is truly amazing about Jackie Gleason, the Honeymooners, his show, his various improv sketches, is that that all of the above managed, and still manages to remain in a cult like status. Additionally, they manage to remain funny! What is truly amazing though, is that they remain funny without the needed input of sexual innuendos, profanity, toilet humor. Not once in the Honeymooners did they tell a dirty joke. Yet, the comedy in that show supersedes what they play Saturday nights today.
That IS him shooting his own pool shots in the Hustler, Willie Masconi did all of Paul's shot. Tony Curtis is quoted as saying one of his worst things he saw was watching Neuman shoot pool!!
Me and my dad didn't have much in common due to the "generation gap" but one thing we did have was "the honeymooners". I can vividly rmember me and my dad saying the lines out loud together. "one of these days alice, bang-zoom"
@BigDickMcGirk Because they weren't part of the Hollywood club and cocktail party circuit. The same reason that guys like Rod Serling, Alfred Hitchcock, and George C. Scott were rarely recognized for their contributions.
The reason that Art and Jackie were so good actors..is because that they were clowns.They had pathos and sincreity..they could make you laugh and cry.Clowns can act..comedians just tell jokes.
I was also raised in The Bronx,NYC and I could relate to the characters and situations that were a part of Jackie's TV Comedy/variety shows. I'm just sorry that I never got a chance to meet him.
Wow, in this era that we now live. With this bullshit that's passing as entertainment, How desperately we could use Jackie Gleason now. Well, thank god for reruns. And by the way, watching this breaks my heart more so know that Audrey and Art are gone too. Christ they don't make them like they use to.
When I go to the Botanical Gardens here in Brooklyn, I always make sure his celebrity square is cleaned off and a quick prayer. He gave me hours of wonderful entertainment. Thank the gods for re-runs. R.I.P Jackie.
It brought back many great memories of what good TV shows were like.. How I miss them! The junk on today with the sex , violence and vulgarity cannot hold a candle. I could watch these Honeymooner reruns and I Love Lucy reruns all day long and laugh out loud..
I never missed watching the Honeymooners when I was kid, I would still watch it but they are not on anymore. Maybe Nick at Night has them but the hours are always late. Jackie Gleason was the best!!! I was born and raised in The Bronx so we have the New York connection in our hearts.
Audrey Meadows STILL gorgeous.

I like the way Ralph Kramden talked to Alice. No sugar coating, just laying it on the line. Pow -- right in the kisser ! LOL
Can you imagine Raymond (on Everybody loves Raymond) talking to Debra THAT WAY ????? We men have been pussied down.

Jackie was a class act! He had really poor and humble beginnings in life---losing his dad,mom and his brother all before the age of 19.
He will be remembered always!

I think they posted the wrong date of death! 1989 is when I believe he past away not 1987.

@scorpionkings Nope. 1987 is correct.
