Thankyou, steaming Ned, for posting this genuine classic. Takes me back to saturday teatimes in 1963, goggling at the black and white, steam driven TV, at all my faves. Long live the "Famous Eccles".......................(and Sabrina!)
I do remember listening to the original Goon shows on our electric wireless ( THANKS SPIKE) fell about at the Telegoons and now when I pop in at the pub on a Sunday I am greeted by an old school frend by morning Major Bloodnock my response being ah grippipe and we still both smile
I think the Telegoons were funnier than the radio show, and Sellers has nailed the voice of Major Bloodnock bang on in the tv series.
Just watched all the episodes on my 2 disc DVD, and have never laughed so much in all my life..well since I last saw Peter Sellers in THE PARTY.
Kids today would never understand the genius of these masters of comedy, that's why tv has been crap for the past 20 something years..and it's getting worse!
@raymondlang Hahah that's a good statement! I know that about the channel I only wish I was in Britain or i had cable to watch it!But I'll definately buy the dvd when it's out!
Right, the guy that comes on at 0:39 i believe was sculpted by a genius. In fact i would go far as to say i'de sit down and have a conversation with that puppet.
I saw the telegoons at about 6 years old, many years before hearing the radio show or reading the scripts. To me telegoons were the funniest thing ever. It is SO GREAT to see them again. That kentheguru: what a lovely boy, oh yes, what a lovely boy!
I first came upon the Goons via Telegoons, rather than the radio. Absolutely loved the TV shows, but can understand that if I'd come to them via radio, I might have been a tad disappointed. Does anyone know if the Milligan and Company had any say in how the characters looked? Anyway, many thanks for clip - great for an old bat to see again after all this time!
Unfortunately I am old enough to have listened to the original series on radio. Most who saw the telegoons were unimpressed and I think that included Spike. I feel the reason was that each of us who just listened, had our own mental pictures of what the characters looked like. For many the telegoons didn't look quite right. Ironically televising them making a radio show as in "The last goon show of all" seems OK. However whatever introduces people to Sellers. Milligan and Seacombe is OK by me
I've loved the radio shows since NPR rebroadcast them in the 1970s, but this is the first I've seen the fabled TV "translation." Kind of like a cross between Gerry Anderson's work and some bizarre fever dream!!!
HAving grown up with the radio version (through my dads wierd taste in CDS on long car trips, I'm nto that old) this doesn't seem quite so charmingly timeless. Telegoons never got quite as wonderful as 'Stand on my shoulders and give me a lift up'

@ThePythonfan
It's not out, but I keep checking with Amazon, so I can replace my video copy I did years ago when it was on Ch. 4.
There should be a tv channel that caters just for vintage shows from 50s to say 1985 and sod the rest off.
Anyone easily offended by political correctness of old comedy shows need not watch, like I don't watch any modern day show.

Sure, the pictures can't be as good as on radio, but it looks a lot better than 'Down Among The Z Men'.
