Let's say you have 2 distant people. According to past relationships, they'd both be considered dumpers. Put them together, and 1 becomes a dumpee. Think of a spectrum, not labels.

As for imagining being other people, I don't know if it really makes you happier. Unless you have a lot of self-confidence I think placing yourself in a state of consistent comparison by example can and often is detrimental to your opinion of yourself. In my own experience, anyway.

On the other hand, if someone else dumped you because he/she couldn't put up with he/she being so clingy and you being so distant, you're secretly the dumper in disguise while you haven't actually dumped he/she.

I'm a dumpee for sure, every relationship I've been in has been ended by the other person. Clinginess was never the reason for it (although I will admit I can be very clingy). I think the reason why I've never dumped anyone is because I reject most people who ask me out. It leads to long and rather lonely stretches of time between girlfriends, but I never ask people out or say yes to their advances unless I trust them and there is no doubt that love will come of the relationship.
