  • Enya's beautiful music takes my imagination to another reality the way that no other artist can.

  • I have this original CD at home since 1988 :) thanks mum.

  • Now this is real music...

  • Frayser Boy sent me here xD

  • OK, beautiful melody, except, that Cursum is not pronounced Cursu um is just one word Cursum, not Cursu...............um. I thought there was something off.

  • @djmz1969 I think Enya pronounces Latin in a way that suits the melody, it doesn't matter anyway, it's a dead language

  • @NaTonnta True, true.

  • Awe inspiring stuff....beautiful Enya

  • Great memories of the time and environment in which I met my wife (the song had been out several years at that point). She liked this music and, with her influence, I grew to like it better. To this day, hearing it makes me think of being there at that time (without the context, go figure!). Love this one and the full length (unabridged) Orinoco Flow best of Enyas. And, this from an outlaw country and classic rock man (but smooth jazz as well). Thanks!

  • Why are all of her albums so popular? Multi-platinum many times over each and everyone? Listen . . . .

  • Cursum Perficio means Here Endeth the Chase, or My journey ends here. It is the Motto of the Clan Hunter (my mother's maiden name), and it was also written on the portico of Marilyn Monroe's last home

  • My dad would play this all the time when I was growing up when he was drawing I would fall asleep to this I love this song and Enya <3

  • My dad always played this record when I was a little kid on his huge speakers.

This specific track is to me both nostalgic and very sad in some weird kind of way.

    Absolutely love it

  • @JoeyDeanie ME too! Exactly the same!! It's like I wrote your comment lol

  • I love this song because being decended from the Scottish clan Hunter (my Mother's maiden name is Hunter) Cursum Perficio is the motto on the Hunter family crest. It means I accomplish my course.

  • One thing I can't understand is: isn't Irish her first language? Then why the hell does she pronounce evrey single word of every language she sings in (except for the Sindarin she uses in Aníron) with such an American English accent?! Seriously! Pay attention to her R's...

Anyway, great song. One of the best in the album.

  • @Phastolph may have to do with attending Irish Catholic Masses in Latin. IDK, JMO.

  • I remember hearing this song when I was a child and everytime I swear, I was having chills. It was a wierd feeling becauce I was scare and I would stop talking for a moment just listening to the song.

  • my mom doesn't like this song because it sounds like a witches chant

  • @CrazyNative4 ha! get earphones.... :P

  • @teliomi6 why?

  • omg, i finally found it! i heard this song years ago- we did an exercise to it in my high school drama class. all i knew was that it was by enya, i didn't know the name or album or anything . just stumbled upon it by chance! yay!

  • the tune remiinds me of something frm a Tim Burton movie

  • I love the cover art for this album

  • Who agrees that this song sounds like the first stage of the NES game Raid 2020?

  • @ConstableVee Oh yeah that horrible game.

  • acabar de correr en latin es cursum perficio no????????

  • @general3407 Cursum perficio = the way I pursue/follow/walk (or I am pursuing/following/walking).

  • Sweet enya why do you have to be catholic? You really would have made a wonderful pagan artist.

  • Oh... I love playing this song very loud in the dark... with soft flesh against me, oooohhh... i am in heaven.

  • Does this song have opera in it?

  • @socal1982 no. its just a song.

  • The title is Latin, meaning "I am finishing the course" (course, as in a race track). I don't have proof, but knowing how Enya frequently draws inspiration from her Catholic upbringing, I suspect this is a reference to II Timothy 4:7 -- "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

  • @VallesSuffuscus The liner notes say it was inspired by a message found (inscribed on the front gate of?) Marilyn Monroe's final home, and loosely translates as "my journey ends here."

  • @VallesSuffuscus Which is to say, your translation would be more precise. But that's how it was translated in the liner notes. Ah, liner notes. I miss liner notes. Drat this digital age *anyway.*

  • This is probably Enya's WEIRDEST song. But indeed so powerful!

  • This may be a longshot; does anyone rember the advert this song was used on for a bank, which was an animation of someone building a barn?

  • There is no hope for humanity......we truly are doomed....forever.....

  • This is truly RMS Titanics theme and death song...... so majestic and so sad at the same time

  • Greek to English translation

It is wrong, more and more they want! Sages and spiritual leaders who care only for their party ... So we are mentally on the edge of the cliff as a world, and why artists such as Enya did not receive the recognition they deserve ...

  • @W52RockBottom ...This is in Latin ...

  • @IsabellaIvy

RockBottom was translating Katoidexia's comment since it is in Greek. The song itself is in ecclesiastical Latin though.

  • one of THE BEST songs I know. 50 stars! :D

  • This song never fails to give me shivers!!

  • Enya, You give me goose bumps all over with this song. This is an excellent piece. I highly admire your work. You create an art like no other. The art of music.

  • @gause44 hey, glad u found it, and thanks for bringin me here too! :)

  • I miss my loves of old... and all the love yet to come.

  • It sounds like something evil is about to happen!!!Great song, great artist!!

  • You know. A long time ago, when Disneyland had Carousel Of Progress, the show started with a special 3D light show, and this song would have fit in perfectly with that infinite effect.

  • I love this song!!! It's marvelous.

  • Am I the only one who first heard 'quite simple, quite easy'?

  • Oh Gott! Ich liebe diesen Song so sehr! Ich zählte all die Male, dass ich es und es kam zu 167 Mal hörte! In einer Nacht hörte ich es 83. ICH LIEBE ES! : D

  • This is one of my favorite Enya songs. Love the intensity of the lyrics and melody. I also like the harmonies a lot.

  • @johnredhd Ja! =D

  • happy valentine day, AFTER 2 YERAS =d

  • This is definitely my favorite Enya song out of all of them.

  • In fact, the word "ITERNUM" in the end of this song is a brilliant invention from Enya herself: it unites the words "Aeternum", eternal, and "Iter" or "Iterum", journey: the all-celtic feeling of Life being but a never-ending journey, spiralling onwards towards Death (Nubilae) then outwards in bursts of manifested Life (Phoebus). All of this and more, in one word ;)

This song is way more profound than most people acknowledge.

  • this and pax deorum............

  • My parents would play this album all the time when I was growing up and I would sing a long "cursing moons, burping seagulls!" haha.

  • @kCuFfication this cool song has a haunting quality to it ! and it's still cool

  • SOUND COOL NICE PASTELS ON CANVAS

  • Cursum perficio - The course is finished

Verbum sapienti: - A word to the wise:

quo plus habent, - the more they have,

eo plus cupiunt. - the more they want.

Post nubila, Phoebus - After the clouds, Phoebus (the sun)

    Iterum - again

Yeah, it's not hard to see how those lyrics apply to Marilyn Monroe. But despite the greed and the clouds, the sun will shine again...

Phoebus is a title of Apollo. Phobos is an attendant of Ares (Mars)

  • Just a little trivia, the latin chorus of this beautiful music is Marilyn Monroe's epitaph

  • I love love love this song and I hate hate hate myself for not being able to get over that single mispronunciation in the title phrase.

  • This has such an epic feel to it, absolutely stunning!

  • Salue, magna música est

  • prekrasna sjećanja, prekrasna pjesma....

  • This is one of my favorites from ENYA. Love it.

  • Best Enya song ever.

  • This and Tempus Vernum are her more dramatic and dark songs. But I like about everything she has done.

  • @Renew3D Also Pax Deorum

  • WHY THE HELL IS SHE SAYING WORKING SEAGULL.

  • "Cursum perficio": this was engraved by the front door at Marylin Monroe's house and is what inspired the song.

It means litherally "the road is finished" -as, "it has been walked through completely"- and thus metaphorically it means "the goal has been achieved".

  • This song is extremely inspirational.

  • I see very evil creatures with horns and tails attacking when i listen to this song.....and the toward the end I see the knight on a white horse coming to push them down into the abbys for all enternaty

  • @ur2slow4me2 Without all the repetitions, it only means:

    "I finish the course.

    A word to the wise:

    the more [people] have,

    the more they want.

    After the clouds, Phoebus"

  • @NVanWendy Thanks. I did not know that. It just sounds so scarey and uplifting all at the same time........very good song overall, i'd say.

  • hair raising type of music!! very beautiful!!!

  • omg, this song is amazing.

  • I heard this song on a National Geographic video matches perfectly with a horrible disaster.

  • Dear Enya!! I love this song. You are so blessed with your talent. May you always succeed in all your artistic projects... Love

  • THE BEST SONG

  • sublimeeee¡¡¡¡

  • New youtube layout sucks thumbs up if you agree

  • lol i learnt this on the piano today XD

  • It was actually irish munks that saved the knowledge of the western world after the roman empire ended.

  • Post Nubila Phoebus.

    .. et pax infinita !

  • how enya achieves such a perfect recording sound, is what i long for in my music...

enya is ireland's gift to the world...

along with the cranberries and U2, michael kamen, James Joyce, it's a very short list...

not surprised erika adores this music, listen to erika sing!!!

    douglas

  • Don't take me for a crazy but when I listened to this for the first time I was half asleep and had a daydream of a Roman Battle...12 years later I still see the same image after hearing this song.

  • @MikeofWyoming That's awesome!

  • C below middle C and high A flat? ...... I am wowed. That is an incredible range. The woman is amazing.

  • I thought "My journey ends here" was an inscription found on the fireplace mantle of Marilyn Monroes' house in which she died?

  • You are right FanyaKaplan2008,the title translated is MY JOURNEY ENDS HERE.

  • This song is about a man that say, You cant stop me, Lucifer and the unic one...

  • She sings the C below middle C in this song, and a high A-Flat above the treble cleff. She's capable of extraordinary things

  • @musicnarts22 I wish I had that sort of talent. :0)

  • The song is about one person's trip out of life, a note on the demands of mortality (the more they have the more they want) and "after clouds, the sun, eternally" indicating that after the uncertainty of human life there is the after.

  • I thought this was inspired by a visit to Marilyn Monroe's old apartment.

Great song. Most of her music is amazing.

  • Cursum perficio.

    Verbum sapienti:

    Quo plus habent,

    Eo plus cupiunt.

    Post nubila, Phoebus

    Iternum

  • I knew it was Latin so I just let myself improvise ...

    (2:14) Pergom sapienti

    (2:18) Vivum dum scypienti

    (2:36) Ad costu vitae viibus

    (2:54) Ooh fui sta vii

  • Any idea what the end is? Like, 3:48 on?

  • I thought it was simply RETURN but it's actually AETERNUM, which means ETERNALLY or FOREVER.

  • My journey has ended

    A word to the wise

The more they have the more they want

    After the clouds the sun

(English translation, well at least my best effort)

  • lol...great song...i know it's Latin but it sounds unmistakably Russian...yes?..

  • it´s latin she says:

    "Oh post nubila, Phoebus...."

    means "after the clouds,phoebus"

  • 2.36

Sounds like "Jag måste vinna" that means "I must win" in swedish.

  • Some said it sounded like Hon måste dricka mer must :D

  • thanks,

    happy valentine day too you.

  • the idea of video is like the structure of coffee.

    happy valentine day

  • Great song...The images and the journey that the audio takes the listener through is amazing

  • I think this is one of Enya's greatest ever songs. I call it the soundtrack to the Apocalypse, music for the Armageddon. If ever there was a song playing when the heavens opened up for the Second Coming, this would be very appropriate, dont u think so?

  • no not really if you have ever been near dieing then there is no sound or much really, all the sound in music are just romanticising emotive feelings it never feels that way.

    peace out brother

  • I agree with you. Back in 1998, when I first heard it and listened to it very thoroughly it reminded me of the Crusades, but then the first half of the song reminded me of Napoleon's sad defeat at Waterloo. The second part reminded me of Marshal Grouchy's refusal to appear at Waterloo (to Napoleon's rescue) with his 33,000 despite being urged by his generals: Gerard, Vandamme and Exelmans, to do so, when they all heard the terrible sound of gufire from the fields of Waterloo.

    I agree!

  • @pinolobu I have to agree with you on that and I gave you thumbs up.

  • @happycat2010 :0) Awwwww shucks! Thank you ((((()))))

  • @pinolobu

I agree totally with your appreciation for this song. it has a mystical quality, especially when it gathers pace. It makes me think of a chase through a dark forest and when i first heard it the hairs on my arms stood on end. great to find a fellow admirer. Stew C

  • @pinolobu NO. Diemos et Phoebos. That's what happens after war, driven by Christ, Man, or devil. Chaos and fear. Post nubila phoebus. After the clouds come the fear. Too bad you are already afraid. Fear drives you to Christ. Fear because your sin stains your soul. Fear drives you to dad. Dad knows you're a coward. Cower in your tower! It is better that you run away prodigal son! Maybe then after you see what's left of the fairy tale you'll come groveling! With redemption and truth you'll flee!

  • @pinolobu After war, driven by Christ, Man, or devil. Chaos & fear. Post nubila phoebus. After clouds come fear. Too bad ur already afraid. Fear drives you 2 Christ. Fear sin stains your soul. With redemption and truth you'll flee!

  • @pinolobu the Dark Knight hunting you through a dark forest...that's what I always imagined, LoL

  • When I was travelling on the train and I was listening to this song I felt the rhythm, enjoyed the view, the field, the forest. It was amazing.

  • In fact, this song was the sound of the one of the official trailer of the EXPO Sevilla 92, in Spain, and the movie was exactly as you says, images from cities and forests in motion!

  • nice:)

  • bella canzione

  • love Enya's music!

  • wow

  • Love this song. Gorgeous! Thanks for adding!

    :D
