  • 1:40-1:50-acoustic purity

It would be cool to see him and Mac live.

  • A genius at work.....

    Wow!

  • in my opinion he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time

  • And, you know, he's never listed on these "best of" compilations. When I see those lists, Lindsey can play rings around 99% of the guitarists listed--and don't forget, he's not a shredder. Melody and counterpoint are central to his songwriting and playing. Though very different players, I put him right up there with Metheny as a Guitarist-composer.

  • ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

  • How did he just do that?

  • there's guitarists on youtube who have done it too,not quite to this level, but still very impressive.

  • A lot of the time Lindsey's actually doing banjo runs on the guitar, and then throwing in the eccentric time signature, he's often hitting a beat and counterbeat. Extraordinary playing that few can match--Mark Knopfler? Pat Metheny, but he usually uses a pick.

  • If you're a Mac fan. search DEAD LIKE HARRY, LEADMILL for a band you might like

  • I'm going to see Fleetwood Mac in March. I hope hope hope Lindsey plays this song!

  • how come this guy never got beyond fleetwood mac? great guitar player, good song writer, good solo recordings, but he never achieved what i thought he would

  • How big can you go? FM are up there with the very best. How many 'Names' have failed after having gone solo, thinking they were bigger than the band from whence they started. How many bands have splintered only having to reunite later?

  • My opinion, Lindsey's very introverted and introspective, he's never been a self-promoter. Also, one of the things I love about his talent, he's eccentric and completely unpredictable. You either get him or you don't ("you either will, or you won't") and many people expecting FM put his music on and go "WTF?", so he's not been promoted heavily by Reprise over the years, they just don't see him as a commercial artist. And it's a shame, he belongs in the Hall of Fame as a solo artist, too.

  • Extremely hard to play, shit ! This is absolutely incredible. Voice and guitar together is nearly impossible. Lindsey is crazy and a genious musician. I can't get enough !

  • He is playing against a slapback echo on this. Not quite as dry as the 75 or Rumours album, so don't beat yourself up trying to fingerstyle this realtime!

  • Buckingham played this version live on A&E Special Sessions this past Sunday, with the delay turned off. It's still very difficult too play, and he nailed it.

  • his picking is amazingly hard, like 2 different beats at the same time... i can't do it lol but i tried... and i will certainly try again

  • what a good soundtrack<3 luv it

  • i dont think hes the best but hes certainly way up there. tremendous performance here from lindsey, great voice to.

I play guitar, this song is NOT easy, especially to sing it with the timing he has

  • Hard to play...

By god I wish I had written this one!!

    A pale copy.

  • You hear the same thing about Paul McCartney, "Oh, I can play that, it's easy." Yeah, until you try to play and sing it like Paul, then you understand how original, brilliant, eccentric and talented guys like Buckingham and McCartney are--yes, they deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence, too.

  • Yeah, he's using a delay, but virtually every virtuoso rock guitarist does, some use 2. Still, his finger picking style is amazing, he stays in rhythm and time perfectly. All you guys posting that this is really easy to do, well, tape yourself playing and singing this piece and post as a response to this video. I guarantee there will be no one doing this. This is an effen hard song to play and sing at the same time, at a pro's level--plus, he...wrote...the...song...and...did...the...arrangement.

  • This man is amazing!! what a voice and guitar!

Check him out with "go insane" at the same concert, even better. 5 stars both songs!! WONDERFUL

  • genius

  • I remember seeing this for the first time, and I was so impressed...This performance really moved me. I do not play the guitar, but to me it was the most beautiful guitar playing that I had ever heard... Just listen to 0:43 to 0:56. Also 1:39 to the end...FLAWLESS! Lindsey is THE BEST. PERIOD.

  • seen him in concert, total madman on guitar.

  • Agree, boho, saw him twice this fall--his playing has never been better, especially on those Turner customs--also, he's rehabbed his voice somehow, and he's back wailing in the upper tenor range. Lindsey's at the top of his game right now.

  • i like the fact he is underated

    makes it even more special

  • He really is underrated as a talent to me. Ususally those that sing and play guitar at the same time are usually rythym guitar. Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson etc. And they really do it well. But to pick notes at that rate while concentrating on vocals is crazy type of genious IMO.

  • WOW!!

  • Thanks, I missed that bit.

  • Simply amazing guitar playing!

  • what humans can do is amazing

  • I have seen Lindsey in concert solo twice. See him while you can, he is one of the best acts live!

  • i'd give up 5 years of my life to be like Lindsey

  • Only 5 years???? Why not just kill yourself now?? You will never be like him!

  • then i said scratch that my whole life...

and how in the hell do you know i wont be like him? you dont even know me dipshit

  • excelente guitarrista

  • fleetwood mac songs, not this one. songs where hes only playing guitar

  • One Man, One guitar! Lindsey, you're AMAZING!

  • cripes I knew Lindz when he redided in San Fran in the late 60s...I wss 8-9 yrs. old ...ny babysitter lived a few doors away...he was on Reprise Records at the time and I have some Reprise paraphanalia he autographed for me ,to this day..and we are still pals.Wonderful man.

  • this song is soooo great.....

  • Lindsey has got to be one of the more underrated guitarists out there.

  • He isnt really underrated, i mean everyone knows how good he is. He is an innovator and has one of the most successful guitar lines ever....

  • Yeah he is definitely respected by many musicians, but you won't see his name appear on many top 50 guitarists lists is the point I am making.

  • Well he uses a delay effect in this performance. The extra notes make it sound more complicated.

  • He is fucking amazing.

  • this songs pretty simple but the more complex ones where he wasnt singing needed 2 players to do it

  • CARA, COMO EU AMO ESSA MÚSICA! :)

  • this was a brilliant dvd. it does sound like more than one guitar. he is amazing.

  • that fingerpicking is rediculous.....it sounds like 2 guitars...not one

  • when he left the band, they actually had to hire 2 guitarists to replace him

  • one of the best

  • He did this on CBC radio a month ago, just as good. It was cool having a person (younger) in the car that did not know Fleetwood Mac. Instant fan.

  • Jimi Hendrix-Blues, Steve Vai-Precision/Technique, Yngwie Malmsteen-Speed, Lindsay Buckingham-Finger Picking Mastery, Joe Satriani-Precision Technique(again)

  • This performance has haunted me since the first time I saw the concert on TV. Totally raw, and yet technically great at the same time. Real passion. Brilliant.

  • I thought Lindsey is a name for women.. hmm.. lol Anywayz, the performance is really cool, the song was used in the movie "Elizabethtown" also :-))

  • It´s simply fantastic!!

Thanks for sharing it with us all.

  • this is greaaaaaaat!!!!!!! what a man!

  • he still sounds awsome !!!!!!

  • he is fricken amazing

  • WTF? You've got a brilliant singer-songwriter guitarist frontman of legendary Fleetwood Mac, and you use the video as a launchpad for all THIS crap? Get a freakin' life. Your school district should set a filter on Youtube so you can't be doing this instead of your school work... And they should take away your use of electronic devices in the classroom...

  • This performance is so breathtaking. Amazing.. This is what you call soul... One of the best underrated guitarist.

  • As a guitar player who loves metal, I couldn't imagine playing this and singing at the same time. Killer musician.

  • Awesome just awesome

  • You're right buddy - awesome!

  • greatest live performance of all time

  • Really amazing. I remember this performance when Fleetwood Mac reunited. One man playing the guitar and singing that song. You would be hard pressed to find a better indivdual effort than that.

  • Gah! I love this man...I saw him at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City last weekend...when he played this i bout crapped my pants...every note just rips out of him..it's so amazing. Also, his explanation for the title was amazing...it's about how he was "looking out" for love by trying to avoid it, not find it. Lindsey Buckingham is easily one of the best musicians of my time. (i'm 18)And it sucks that so few people my age know about him.

  • a song i never liked until i saw the man play it this way. we love you lindsey

  • This song from Lindsey= E=MC2

  • As a guitarist myself with over 40 years of playing behind me, this performance by Lindsey frightens me in it's skill and virtuosity. A fabulous underrated guitarist, songwriter and vocalist whom I wish to see play in a live performance. Thank you for this video.

  • I'm so excited to see Lindsey at Berklee this week. I've been waiting a long time and now I finally get to see him. :)

If you like Lindsey's solo music, you might like my music. Stop by, have a listen, and let me know what you think. Thanks. :)

  • yeah i just saw him at the clinic. hes awesome

  • you lil slut come to my house. and i'll show you what fun is

  • Lindsey is truely a legend! His great guitar solos and live performances is hard to beat, if not impossible! Fleetwood mac makes my life worth living!

  • Amazing unplugged rendition <3333

  • ha ha ha ha

  • amazing

  • Brilliant very nice well done keep jamming !!!

  • I am a dedicated metal fan, and my friend sent this to me, omg it is amazing.

  • Great, great song...awesome musician...and highly underrated.

  • so-so voice??, are you kidding me?, i wish i could sing like tha that while playing the guitar like that, you probably listen to celine dion or cristina aguilera

  • It's called an OPINION and I'm entitled to one. And no, a lot of the music I listen to has no vocals, but being a classically trained musician with two degrees under my belt (one in performance one in production & engineering) I feel that I can form a clear and fair opinion about a piece of music or an artist and then rate the vid and express said opinion like the website intends me to do. Anyways, taste aside Celine Dion could out sing LB anyday. See what happens when you give CD a banjo though

  • Oh, I see... now you have a "professional opinion" after you commented that he's got a "so-so voice" and consider it a "clear and fair opinion"...way to go!, I'm a musician as well and just like you I'm entitled to an opinion, this is truly amazing and as a musician you should appreciate that. I guess I was right... you do love Celine Dion...

  • No point in debating with fanboys.

  • God this song makes me wriggle.

  • This is just fabulous! :) I wish I could play guitar like that... ;)

    Thanks for posting! :)

  • I was having a dream where I was married to Lindsey Buckingham, and then the damn cat woke me up. Lindsey is so hott!!

  • dude i so know what you mean!!

  • mad skills

  • absolutly incredible

  • Great song!

  • was in the audience for this

  • You lucky bastard.

  • Man he sure could play! This is classic Lindsey in his guitar strumming prime! Unbelievable how he could move those finger tips across the strings.

  • I am going to see him Oct. 12.. Sounds like it will be a good show

  • Anyone else love that wicked smile he flashes at the end? *sigh*

  • Anybody who plays guitar knows how difficult this would be to duplicate. Sensational version from a highly underrated guitarist.

  • i play guitar.

and i just learned this song.

and yes, it was very hard.

    lindsay buckingham is my hero

  • The guy is touring this fall - I'm going to see him in Reading PA just outside Philly in mid-October. I'm sure his concert will be as fabulous as Mark Knopfler's.

  • ♥ ~ ♥ ~ ♥ Him! this is awesome *s*

  • MAY!!! Where have you been?? I couldn't have said it better!~~Suze...come back girl :P

  • Fantastic!

  • a great classical/flamenco piece. up there with andres segovia in this instance.

  • This is a bit special.

  • Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most creative and important figures in the musical world.

  • notice how when he plays the solo he plays the bass line to lol thats crazy

  • notice every time he plays this song he's always wearin' that dark blazer. I gotta get me one, must give some awesome guitar playing powers lol.

  • One of the greatest guitarists of all time!!!! and this video proves it!!!!!!!

  • I've always thought this was an excellent live performance. I have The Dance on cd, but it's nice to see this video. Thanks so much for posting this. I adore Lindsey!

  • the rythm is key to playing this song well- it is very easy to screw up.. then add the difficulty of singing and an audience and you get 1 shot at it. thats why he is rich- he can pull it off on stage.

I think the guitar is a Gibson classical - and I suspect he is using a delay but not sure- anyway, it is brilliant- and the end is primal...true art.

  • Sweet!

  • This is the best version! Thanks for posting!

  • Absolutely sick. Five stars.

  • There's definitely some kind of delay. If you watch him pick (and listen) he only picks the (ignoring the capo) high A on the G-string one time each measure, but you can hear it repeat softly exactly one beat later, and same with the E on the D-string. It might be possible to play it like it sounds here, but without a delay pedal, but unless his finger pattern includes re-picking every single note in the entire song (including the solo) one beat later, he's using a delay.

  • kinda sounds sexy at the end there...:P

  • lovely song, anna!

  • AfroNinja187: Love the way you are defending your love(r). Nice.

  • Ok, this guy, just my opinion. Not a big deal. He is using a rebounder, which makes it sound like he's doing a lot more than he really is. And second, there are many other guitarists who are infinetely more talented and more musically genaic. Not to say that he's a bad guitar player. He's a great entertainer. But he's not as good as you all think.

  • he's not using a rebounder. he really is playing that many notes. my friend can play big love and it souds exactly like this, no rebounder, just a guitar and a pick.

  • Well, you gotta understand that he's playing on stage, concerto style, so the notes he plays are echoed. I know I'm probably pointing out the obvious, but it plays a factor in the sound of the guitar.

  • Coldplayere:

Don´t judge buckingham by this video alone.

Listen to fleetwood and his solo stuff.

He is good, not only a good player but a great songwriter, one of the best!

  • He is a great musician, I'm not saying he's not. He totally deserved his Hall of Fame rep. And his guitar playing skills are sick. He's a goog player. But this song, i'm just saying, is at his regular level. That's all. Not trying to diss him or anything. Nothing against him.

  • to coldplayere: also just my opinion. saw F.Mac only twice. Loved them.

to AfroNinja187: with only a guitar, pick(?), and that many notes, your friend must at least use a capo, some sound engineers and a mixture of strings . Btw, can your friend sing?

  • yes he uses a capo. and he can sing but if he sings while he plays the guitar doesnt sound as good.

  • to coldplayere: we'll stand our ground.

  • fine with me, hornstra1.

  • thats nice your good guitarist man!!!

  • My mother used to play this song all the time, but she hasn't played it for a long time. I heard it again while watching Elizabethtown and I just had to find it!

Wonderful song, really magical and he is amazing at the guitar! A true musician.

  • nice guitar work,very nice

  • It far surpasses the album version. A great song made even better with a guitar and voice live version. An impressive accomplishment!

  • there are some moments in this song, i can only describe as magical.

  • i'd like to see him and drie straits and hank marvin on stage together

  • The fact that my girlfriend refuses to believe that there is only man playing the guitar through the course of that song is enough justification that he is the greatest guitarist.

  • This is why Lindsay is truly great.

  • For some reason the "experts" don't rate Lindsey as one of the best players. Would be interesting to hear why...

...He obviously got the skills and he sure as hell don't lack passion.

  • ya i 100% agree with u

  • Damn, that man is talented.

  • this performance always amazes me. in my opinion he is hands down the best guitarist on the face of the earth.

  • i totally agree with that statement.. If I could only meet him... it would be one ofthe greatest days of my life!

  • Amazing. I always felt Lindsey was such an underrated musician. The level of intensity he manages to pull out of a simple acoustic rendition is astounding. Go man Go!!!

  • hes so damn good its insaine he deserves so much more credit

  • They were never married...

They were going out but not married.

  • Unbelievably talented guitarist and musiciain!

  • Phil Collins once said of Eric Clapton's guitar playing "It brings tears to my eyes". If that's the case, Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing should have everyone in hysterics. He IS the king.

  • i'm not much for "my guitarist is better than your guitarist" debates, but while Clapton serves a purpose on the guitar scene, he's never played anything as amazing as this, emotionally or technically.

  • I agree totally. Regarding my comment on Clapton's guitar playing and Lindsey, the "he" I am referring to is Lindsey, not Clapton. Lindsey unequivocally and consistently delivers the ultimate performance.

  • excellent

  • Chills....

  • I get the chills, everytime I listen to that. UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE!

  • You still haven't impressed me as much as this video has...

  • Post it then!

  • wow this version is amazing! a lot less reverb on the voice so you can hear every pitch perfect note(which is rare live!) ,guitar isnt too shabby either!

  • Not only a great guitarist but a great voice and of course, composer. Awesome video, thanks!

  • god i love this song!

  • Much, Much, Much better then the original! Go lindsey

  • very few with such raw talent... not a note wasted...

  • I would do him in a second

  • There may be people who are technically more adept, but Lindsey has a style all his own.

  • WTF BOOOOOOM!

  • sexy

  • yeah right

  • lindsay is a genius he has demonstrated it so many times You have my respect

  • You just don't get any better than Lindsey Buckingham. A true master.

  • What passion! Beautiful song.

  • loove this version :D, heard it first in Elizabethtown, and I didn't even know who it was..

  • same case with me:)!

  • Virtuoso

  • this is is so hard to play. rythem and lead guitar at once WOW this man has my respect. all of Fleetwoodmac does.
