  • I liked when they did the computer testing for Ruffnut & Tuffnut @ 2:30- 2:38.

The way they moved in that test perfectly matched how they moved in the film (I could imagine one of them saying, "Ok, so this is a weird place. Nothing but white everywhere, and I'm stuck here with you!"), and when Ruff casually punched Tuff I LOL'd!

  • I love to see the work behind of an amazing animations, its really great to see all the movements, textures, lights, sounds, voices, special effects, storyboard, brainstorming, all in one amazing work of art.

Really i never get tired watching this scenes

    Great work Dream works

  • Please tell they don't edit each and every frame on Photoshop... Do they?? I mean that would take ages :O :O :O :O

  • But in another video about character`s voice(an 21mins one) ,Marionette appeared ,I saw a pic of Marionette of google,I found these program are simaliar

  • I like thie fire effect in this movie~Hope fire in video games to be better

  • But I didn`t see HTTYD in the page of Marionette in wiki, and I didn`t see the Marionette logo in the end of this movie.......

  • Isn`t there Adobe`s After Effects in this?or I`m wrong,at least,I saw PS

  • People asking for software:

    1. Animation was done in Maya

    2. Most of the tools were made in house

    3. Tools won't make you a good artist, so pick any just to express your self.

  • Sorry i mean 4:15.

  • What Programs do they use

  • @TheCettomafia They using a private programms wich don't have a name and are not in sale at 5:39 on that screen is write (Propreity of Dreamworks) this mean that is they programm. It's the same thing at Pixar and all others....

  • @danielosbay why the hell would pixar use software made by their competitors?

pixar uses an inhouse software called marionette

  • @humanidt Ofcourse pixar uses an other software.

  • 0:15 is that Photoshop? O-o

  • go fo bo? Judoon?

  • ahw man!!.. i wish i can go to there studio just watching what they do for whole day

  • @halosociety Try Blender! EPIC free program!

  • Oh my gosh, I LOVE this movie! This movie is the catalyst that got me into art and design study for feature films! Hope to work on something like this in the near future!! :)

  • @halosociety Don't ever say that you wont be able to do it. JUST DO IT! If you work hard, one day you will achieve that dream. Believe me =)

  • OMG! Did they do the color-correction and final touches all frame by frame 1:18 ?!

  • @ennisbucci Not exactly. In 3D animation the image is taken through many different stages. Color correction wouldn't be done on a frame by frame basis, but it would be done shot by shot. It's up to the final lighting crew to bring out the last details. But yeah, it all results in about that much work!

  • when i saw the movie i thought all the time.. hey the dragon looks a lot like stich, his face.. and how he acts sometimes.. and now i look at wiki and saw that the directors of lilo and stich worked on this.. i m so good :D

  • woah...i wanna touch-screen scetchy thingy!

  • really a good movie ever in animation industry

  • TEAM DREAMWORKS!

  • GOD BLESSED PHOTOSHOP. :D

  • i saw photoshop!

  • Gawd this is awesome. I was looking at the studios of Pixar as well, and it's funny how much they differ in style ect.

    Love this so much.

  • how do they make the picture move?

  • Sorry DreamWorks. TEAM Pixar! Who's with me!?

  • @MuellerVLOGS I Love Both of the Studios , Sometimes Pixars movies have more emotional storylines which I like .. But Dreamworks last movie Megamind was just so much fun to watch the animation was off the charts

  • Its so great to know how they do all this, and actually being able to do it. I love the Industry. Most of you guys will never know just how much work gets put into this type of movie, but i think you all should at some point in your life try to model and or texture in a 3D package.

They use a lot of software, 3dsmax, Maya, Motionbuilder, mudbox, zbrush, Adobe systems packages. ECT

We have to know them all. Its a lot of work,

  • Dreamworks Should make a Warrior Cats movie

  • @yellowfang101 While I love Dreamworks, I think Animal Logic (Happy Feet, Legend of the Guardians) would be a better choice. I loved the way they did Legend of the Guardians and I'd love to see that same skill used to make the Warriors world come to life.

  • The physics, fire, water, HAIR, smoke, and to some degree animations in this movie were TOP NOTCH!! Some of the design choices on the dragons were kind of silly though, and made them look either cross-eyed or like they had friggin down syndrome.

  • The part of the movie on the screen at around 0:37 looks like a deleted scene. I really hope they have deleted scenes on the DVD, as I assume they will be on the Bluray.

  • I think these behind the scenes kinda reveals some of the magic behind the magic.

  • I just love that my favorite directors ever, worked on this movie. Gahhh love. <3

  • Wow they put so much effort into this!! Great movie. Seeing this makes me appreciate it even more.

  • damn! that's a lot of work!

  • Anyone knows with what program they edit the movie?

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia They probably used LOTS of different programs. Maybe Maya with customized shells or interfaces. Or they might have used even their own in house program.

You can get results with any 3d software out there though. I personally like 3ds Max just because it's what I learned first and is easiest for me to get great results. After Effects is also great.

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia Every studio has it's own personally developed program they use that is not available to the public. I think Blue Sky's is the most kick-ass though. Dreamworks is a close second.

  • @psychgoth Ah see, i never got wich program these proffesional movie makers use!

    But now i get it.

    thanks bro!

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia Looks like Autodesk's Maya

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia It's probably proprietary to Dreamworks, they made it for themselves and it's not a publicly released tool.

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia 3D max MAya adn mudbox

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia at 0:29 they are editing in photoshop ... though i wanna knwo what they use to animate

they also use the wacom cintique tablet

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia i saw photoshop cs4 @ 0:23

  • @InfiniteMultiMedia I know one they used is called fireworks, we use it at our school also

  • they must of have grossed billions!

  • the envoirment was made with mudbox like stones, and other things and the dragon-vikings models were made in maya

  • Awesome movie! i'd watch it again XD

  • I love watching these Behind the scenes vid, its very inspirational for me

  • i watched the movieand it was so amazing.i love dragons...

Made wicht mudbox too but maya is the main program!!

  • @peprnoot17

Wouldn't Mudbox be used to make the models, and Maya used for the animation?

  • @swimfastfly27 Lol can'y model in mudbox!!!! only sculpting/painting

all models made witch maya and the details are made in mudbox!
