@immortalcelsius CIC was initially canceled in 1985. When production resumed for season 2, there were problems with the season 1 cast (Jonathan Ward, the boy who played Douglas, had a show on ABC at that time and was not available while Julie Cobb, who played the Pembrokes' mother, was offended by the salary offered, which was less than what she made when the series was in CBS.) Instead of a split family, the writers decided to get rid of the first family and they introduced the Powells.

There was an awful lot of Navy references in this TV series. The Grandfather was a WWII Navy Vet, the Father went on deployment, he was a Commander... and never returned. The uncle was a Boatswain mate.

@jayce79 Believe it or not I remember reading something about the season 1 family and that was just exactly the case. Everybody loved Scott Baio and Willie Aames but the family just wasn't cutting it. So, due to low ratings they were written out of the show. Personally, I liked the Pembrose's better.
