  • The most loyal friend you'll ever have. The Blues.

  • The only sure thing that I've found - I will never lose - My Old Friend the Blues - how many of us knows how that feels Steve? More than those who will admit it , I'd say!

  • Joe Nichols did an amazing cover of this song. Sad to say, I think he put a little more feeling into the song.

  • I love this song....Thank You!

  • What I like about Steve is that he honest and will tell you what he believes - whatever the conceniences. He is the real deal - think whatever you want about him.

  • With his Goodbye with Emmylou up there as one of the greatest country blues numbers

  • some of the best pure country gold ever. PERIOD!

  • I like them both Proclaimers and Steve but for me; no doubt Steve is the best :)

  • My fave genre is Metal but Steve Earle kills..

  • Pure country magic old boy .Best country album ever .

  • The Pahinui Brothers did it the best in my humble opinion with David Lindley on lap steel

  • For the past hour ive been hitting replay. Such a soulful song.

  • the proclaimers cover is better. Though this version is also good.

  • @Wunderbred66

I'm a fan of the Proclaimers, but I have to say I prefer Steve's own version...but each to his own choice!

  • @twocanoes his own version? You know Steve wrote this, right? XD

  • @Buggaton I do.

  • @Wunderbred66 they do not cover it better, they sound horrible. No offense

  • @Wunderbred66 better than Steve Earle? wow.....

  • Beautiful, i love it

  • Patty Loveless does a respectable cover of this song, but Steve's version haunts the soul.

  • mt old friend the blues

  • Great song, thanks for including the lyrics, all around great video.

  • Lovely song - when was this written?

  • @mcs1hr the record is from '86 so I guess it's from there or probably earlier, which would mean he'd be about my age when he wrote this :)

  • @mcs1hr This was off his "Guitar Town" CD, from about 1986. Killer.

  • @wygakyl very underated album.i put this casette in my truck and still put in from time to time.

  • I met steve when this album came out at a small club in santa cruz california Shook his hand and watched a kick ass show. His tour bus busted down and a greyhound stopped and brought him to the gig. they played beyond curfew it was great!!! Steve Earle and the Dukes!!
