  • ok so I am getting routed to dunsp.vzw.c0m /newselfprovisioning/selfprovisioning whenever I try to access "droid" hotspot that foxfi created. am I doing something wrong or has verizon caught on and shut this down?

  • It works. thanks man.

  • looks like there is no good reason to root my droid razr. Foxfi is free tethering app with no root, there are no roms for the razr that are worth it. Only valid reason I can think of for rooting would be to get rid of bloatware that never runs anyways. I want to root, but it really doesnt seem like its worth it on a droid razr.

  • @scgamecocks22 Rooting is fairly simple and only takes a few minutes, then you'll never have to worry about having an app that you can't run because of it. There's not a big choice of ROMs for this phone, but most are better than stock. Bloatware getting removed is a definite plus, and also getting a ROM that has faster UI is a big plus too.

  • @poqbum thank you for the insight. could you recommend some of the best roms for this phone? Please

  • @scgamecocks22 Go to xda developers, then find the droid RAZR section, then post in the General or Q&A Section and ask people there. You will get more opinions than just mine which would be better :p Also ICS is available already as a ROM, the problem is it's still a little buggy, so personally I wouldn't flash it just because you don't want some weird crashes or some things not working. But it's good that it's already out and making progress.

  • @poqbum yeah I already did that and you got back to me before anybody on XDA did! Thanks a ton, i'll be patient and wait for it to not be so buggy.

  • I can't get it to work either. I get part of the way through running the "runme" and it stops.

  • how does one go about reversing this?

  • I recommend doing this. Just rooted my RAZR MAXX 2.3.6 and this works FLAWLESSLY. Fantastic work.

  • You are the Man! Works great with no issues on my new Droid Razor running 2.3.6

  • what mobile hotspot app do you use..... mine is still using the red one and not the green icon like yours

  • Works..... But, i use the hot spot with my Ipad . its strange but there are many web sites that load SUPER slow or not at all???? i thought it might be the ipad so i tried it with my laptop and same thing, most work but many don't , like facebook, words with friends and many other sites.Any help or reasons why this would happen, or how to fix, would be greatly appreciated.

  • It works! Great tutorial! I just subscribed because I have grown to like many of your videos.

  • @PimpBunnyRabit Great to hear!

  • Worked thanks.

  • This thing does work .... Do this! I recommended it .

  • whenever i turn on mobile hotspot it says mobile data link lost, then it reconnects and disconnects. any suggestions?

  • get sqlite editor for free on 4shared lol thats what i did

  • can't I just use one of the free wifi tethering apps like Barnacle?

  • @reptedjess don't think so.

  • Once you unlock the bootloader your phones warranty is voided. Oh, and btw, once you unlock the bootloader you can never lock it again so don't think that restoring your phone to "stock" will do anything lol. Just thought I'd point that out.

To answer if you could get charged, if you go to wireless tether and turn it on it will simply send to you the VZW site and tell you to purchase the service so no you cannot get charged. FYI, VZW allows USB tethering for free, 4G speeds too..supports HTML.

  • what if it dosnt ask me for the super user permission.. but it does not send me to the page where it says to agree ... will this still work? i my going to get charge or not ?

  • hello, me again. the rooting worked great for my razr maxx. i have done this and i get a mobile data link lose? any ideas?

  • @thephatee24 same thing with meh. idk why. people say that its becuz verizon is having trouble with the 4g mobile hotspot and it will be fixed. but that was a month ago and its still the same.

  • do you necessarily need to use sqlite? my droid razor is rooted but is there any other way to do it?

  • What the fuck does being grandfathered mean?

  • @iAaronHD Having a data plan so old that it still maintains unlimited data, which is no longer available for those who now want to join verizon.

  • @iAaronHD it just means its people that have had the unlimited data plan before verizon began dividing up the data into 2gb, 4gb ....etc, plans.

  • @iAaronHD if you bought an unlimited plan a few years ago for 30 bucks or something u get to keep the unlimited plan now.

  • Nice work mate, what stand do you have your Razr sitting on? Vertu Kewl

  • does this only work for droid zarz?

does it work for other verizon phones???

  • Never mind. I had changed the USB entitlement check instead. This still works great! Thank you!

  • Not sure why this isn't working now. Did the update break this?

  • The best one yet... Thanks for sharing very useful... U gave me back my freedom

  • do they charge me if i don't have internet?

  • Works like a charm! Thanks for an easy to follow video!

  • 1:34 that's a HAMMER you jackass!

  • Excellent upload, worked perfect on RAZR. Thank you for taking the time to explain this and post video.

  • This hacked work perfect for me on new RAZR update ty. Free wifi tether sweet!!

  • hah, found a diff link that Works and it was Free, didnt need to download no paid apps to get it working, dont waste your time here.!!! HOWTOMEN <--

  • Didnt work. Liiiieeeees to get you to buy sqlEditor. Which is $5 now. Hmmmm. Coincidence?

  • @j37justice I have no personal connection whatsoever with Sqleditor but the hack works fine if you follow directions.

  • @j37justice Why buy when you can BT it? Making this whole scenario totally FREE and TOTALLY worth it!

  • @j37justice you could just go to 4shared to get sqlite editor dumb ass

  • i have a rooted incredible 2. i was on my parents plan which was grandfathered through alltel. my parents want me to get my own plan so if I get a prepaid or even contract and my phone is rooted will my wifi thether be free unlimited eventhough I'm not grandfathered in anymore or will it charge me.

  • @victoryore I think prepaid isn't unlimited so you probably will get charged.

  • @zedomax do you think i if i hook my tethered droid razr into a router, it would work?

  • @zedomax with tmobiles prepaid 50 a month plan 200mb is at 4g speed and at 2g speeds its unlimited and with wifi tether its Decent for web searching

  • Where I live your lucky to get 3g. 4G is out of the question. Welcome to the desert...

  • It seems that my mobile hotspot is free to use already...why is that?

  • @TheBastardCommie I know right!? Mine was free too. If you signed up before july 2011 and bought the unlimited data I noticed it didn't charge me. Glad I signed before.

  • this doesn't work after update.

  • thanks man it works great

  • where do we get the droidrazrroot.zip file

  • @diusx go to droid forums and look up root droid razr. if not just pm me and ill send you it.

  • thanks so much! "These carriers are...evil." lol so very true!

  • Awesome... thanks so much.. I love the droid razr, and this hack saved sooo many people $30 a month.

  • do u lose ur warranty or get charged for this?.....or is it even legal lol?

  • @adinaa18 You don't lose warranty and don't get charged, not its legal, this is a grey line that carriers taking advantage of to charge users twice for the internet you paid for already.

  • That was awesome. Works great. Thanks for the hacking. you are a life Savior

  • how come after competing the everything and waiting for my 4g LTE to appear mine doesn't but i can turn on the hot spot with out the 4g LTE on. did i miss something? i am in a location where i receive 4gLTE. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

  • this is awesome. works great thanks zedomax

  • Unlocks the boot loader and then I will use the wifi tether apps, so Verizon will have a hard time on finding it.

  • Wouldn't this make it easy for Verizon to look at the traffic? I will probably wait until ics comes and unlocks thee

  • We own our phones and we already pay for a data plan so why should it be any of their business where the data goes?

  • @pyrotech7210 Because they wouldn't make as much money. I fell for the 4g modem Verizon offers but they won't give us the "double data" plan like they are with smart phones. So basically I'm paying over $150 dollars a month for home internet.

  • @Mellonikus Yeah, they're greedy, and only in the USA are they that greedy from what I hear. But I still don't see why it should be any of their business whether I'm passing the data link along to my laptop or whatever. I paid for the bandwidth, so now it's none of their business how I use it. If I go over, I pay extra. If I keep going over, I'll upgrade my plan. That's how it should work anyway.

  • @Mellonikus so take it back bro

  • Looks like it works, but only after you reboot your phone.

  • is this all legal?

  • I rooted my phone and did the whole wifi tether thing. It works but having problems. I can't seem to keep connected to hotspot or tethering. The link keeps falling off alot! Does anyone know why?

  • can i do this without rooting

  • When I get on ESPN or Youtube it has trouble loading pages. Any other page is fine. Any ideas?

  • It worked for me and it is great!!! Thanks

  • is there a way you can edit that file through a usb chord plugged into the computer? that would make a good video

  • Rooted RAZR and when I go into SQL it force closes. And can't pick up internet on any device it always asks for Mac did I download the wrong stuff?

  • Did not work. I rooted and set ti to zero! What do i do?

  • I followed all of these steps on my Razr and the phone still gives me a warning when I load tethering about how it drains battery life. I don't see that when you click it. Does this not work anymore?

  • works, didn't mind paying the $3 for the editor, much better than paying $20 a month for tethering.

  • For a free SQLite alternative, type Softpedia AndSQLite into google, it's the first result. Do it on your phone, click download (don't have USB Mass Storage connected to your computer), and when it's done you can launch the APK right from the notification bar. When you run the app, the db files are sorted alphabetically based on the full name (com.motorola.android.providers.settings) so it's quite far down the list.

  • im in fremont ca

  • can you root my droid razr ??????

  • @will52nd1 Check ebay....

  • How do I know Verizon wouldn't charge me at the end? other them that nice

  • by mailbox i believe you meant hammer

  • sorry, i realize by changing on preference it will go back to default. go to your terminal and type this

    sudo ifconfig en1 mtu 1428

    that resolve the problem

  • to all those having problem on websites not loading. you have to set your MTU from 1500 to 1428.

for MAC: go to system preferences>network>advanced>hardware>configure>manually>MTU custom>1428

    Enjoy!!!!

  • worked great until i tried my frequently engaged streaming sites (e.g. pogo, roblox). what am i doing wrong? Am able to access email, even dl games on ps3. I have no clue

  • work excellent on bionic !!!! thanks man !!!!!!!!

  • how many phones do you have??

  • I agree this should be free to all, but will Verizon know if you are using mobile hotspot/tethering without paying? And can they take action against you, since this is against the terms of agreement?

  • Razr has a firmware update coming out that addresses among other things the battery problem that some are having. I'm a heavy user and batter has been fine for me.

  • thanks it worked really well. I hope they don't patch this.

  • Access to the battery doesn't give you longer battery life. Check out the built in tools like Smart Actions and Task Manager. Also can be edited by Root File Explorer if you have it data/data/com.motorola.providers.settings

  • Access to the battery doesn't give you longer battery life. Check out the built in tools like Smart Actions and Task Manager.

  • Haha, its a hammer n a wrench i think

  • Samsung is koool

  • Does this process work for the Bionic? Also, how do you compare the RAZR to the Bionic?

  • @ryanswan0 Get Bionic if you want longer battery life, the Razr is great but there's no access to battery.

  • @zedomax Thanks. I already have a Bionic, just wanted to make sure I didn't buy the wrong phone. Does this Razr Tether Hack work on the Bionic as well? Mine is rooted and forever rooted.

  • @zedomax Nobody cares! Quit trying to trick other people in to buying that thing just because you got suckered into it a week before the razr came out.

  • what is the sprint repeater on ur epic 4g touch?

  • what is the sprint repeater on ur epic 4g touch?

  • you know, announcing getting this for free and blah blah blah, probably isn't the best idea, and they know your tethering anyway...
