Kyrie is playing better than Rubio right now but both are good players. In the last few years a lot of great young point guards have come into the league. From Derrick Rose to John Wall to Steph Curry to Rondo and now these two. The league is filled with great young point men now and Chris Paul and Deron Williams are still in their twenties too.
What does 1v1 even mean it doesnt matter who wins. Irving doesn't have the ball as much as Lin, becasue he plays on a team of vets and solid scorers. Lin played on a team where he awlays had the ball before Melo an S.T.A.T came back. For Lin the stats are greater than the actual player. Irving has done it all year well Lin has done it for 10 games let him play, and come down to earth then we can see what type of player he really is.
Kyrie is definitely a more complete player right now but they are 2 different types of PGs. Ricky is WAY more pass first, and is a better creator. Kyrie is much better than Rubio at scoring. He can shoot better, and finish around the rim better. Both are great players and do what they need to do for their teams. Just enjoy the young talent!
Technically Rubio is not even a rookie , he is playing basketball for many Years in Europe.
He is experienced but still so far in the NBA is not even playing good basketball , bad scorer bad defender, many mistakes , he is a great passer though.
In my opinion kyrie is better then rubio. Rubio is a Great Player who can Assist . But kyrie can both And in Exotin he s much better. Kyrie = Rookie of the Year an in 5 Years One of the Best Players in the League
@DRose1NBA RIGHT NOW he is a top 5 PG in the league, he has been ubelievable. 5 years from now i can see him being THE best PG quite honestly. he has more a killer instinct and more of a flourished game than derrick rose or CP3 as rookies. derrick rose still has a trouble jumpshot.
i feel bad for rubio and his fans... they really believe that rubio is in the same league as kyrie.. i blame espn tho. they a bunch of idiots. its only so long espn can hype rubio up before nature takes its course..
@TheHeart216 I'll agree that Kyrie is the better player so far but Rubio is totally in his league lol. He's putting up stats that are almost identical to Jason Kidd's rookie stats. Kyrie's putting up stats that are similar to Derrick Rose's rookie stats. A lot of people don't give Ricky enough credit because he doesn't score a lot. He's a great passer and setting people up to score is just as good as scoring yourself. So give the guy credit. Kyrie is better right now but they're neck in neck.
@lasoogneypubes you got it backwards.. rose put up similar numbers to kyrie his rookie year. kyries PER is only bested by MJ, Kareem, and CP3.. nobody else in histoy of the 3 point line has put up a higher PER their rookie season.. and kyrie has a great chance at passing CP3s rookie PER. rubio is like 16. something .. kyrie is in the high 22s...
@lasoogneypubes i like rubios passing ability and vision... but you cant say hes better than kyrie.. you can say he fits the "classical PG role" better.. but as far as whos the better player.. you got to go with kyrie. the kid is amazing. me being from cleveland i get to watch him every game so i may have some bias in me..
@TheHeart216 He's playing out of his mind right now but I'm wondering if he can keep it up. A 19 year old shooting over 500% FG and 400% 3PT??? That's unreal. If he keeps it up then he's gonna be a great. I just don't know if he can.
@lasoogneypubes he may not keep the 3s over 40%.. but the FG% wont drop. hes a smart player, he takes smart shots, he dont play out of control, he shows great composure no matter what he does.. and what makes him deadly.. is that he elevates his game in the clutch to lift his team up. thats what great players do.
Mark my words Kyrie will be better then Chris paul, just give him a two or three years and he will be a superstar guard. He is playing inane ball right now, doesn't look anything like a rookie, but yes he will be better then paul. He has already broken some of lebrons records as a cav, such as hitting a game winning shot already, lebron didn't have one till his third season. Not too mention Kyrie's stats are way better then lebrons was at this point without question.
Plus Rubio is muuccchh better defensively, and will always be a lot better because of natural length, anticipation and quick feet. Basketballs a lot more than scoring, not to say Irving is a bad passer but he's not nearly as good as Rubio in that department. Fact
@olaogung09 Rubio is not "muuccchh" better defensively AT ALL. And just because he has a little bit of length doesn't mean he will always be a lot better. Rubio passes first because that's what they NEED him to do. Rubio can't shoot well, and cannot create his own shot for the life of him. The cavs NEED Irving to score because of the lineup they have. Yes he makes players around him better. But let's not act like he's a god or something. He's averaging 11 and 8.9. but shooting 38 percent.
@olaogung09 Irving is averaging (rounding up) 18 and 5 on 51 PERCENT SHOOTING. Rubio is averaging 11 and 9 on 38 percent. i'm sorry but i'll take the rookie who's making more than half of his shoots on a team with no real lethal offensive weapons. Rubio is surrounded by talent (not knocking him at all for that though) which makes it easier to just distribute. and playing with kevin love doesn't hurt lol
What don't you idiots understand, just because he has more years of pro experience he's still 21 years old. He was a puppy playing against grown men and holding his own. He's gonna get a lot better he's far and away a better passer and its not like he can't score. The TWolves had the same exact team last year and weren't shit, Rubio makes players a lot better. Watch his games on youtube he should have far more assist than he does have if people would knock down there open looks.
look how he uses his left you would think thats his strongest hand thats just one of the reasons he is so tough guard, his court vision & dedication is 2nd 2none when you love the game & you have the skills that he has, sky is the limit! HE IS RARE! only rose at the moment is better, you cant teach what kyrie has like a paul but bigger, he is only 19! the game & most players are too slow, mentally as well!
@nujrz4lyfe i definitely agree... and im not trying to be an ass, but its actually 6 years of experience! Rubio has played pro since age 14... kyrie has played pro for a month... He is by far the ROY, and in all honesty, if he had the players around him to help his assist avg. he would be a top ten point guard statistically. Its no wonder Coach K is considering putting him on the Olympic team.
I dont think most people understand how special this kid is...Hes far ahead of Rubio and Rubio has LOADS of experiance on him...Where talking about 4 years worth of pro experiance!
If you come to Cleveland. on certain back alleys and street corners you can hear faint whispers of K.I. He reminds me soooo much of A.I. and how he plays the game it's not even funny! once he realizes he can get any were on the floor and he combines that with his sweet mid range jump shot. I see K.I as a 25pt 7-9 asst ans 4-6 Reb type player !!!
this is a neat little fact too. Rubio's statistics with Barcelona last year. were 4.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 42 games. shot only 32 percent from the field and 25.9 percent from three-point range. Put him with Love, Beasly, and derrick Williams and there ya go!
put Rubio on Washington, New Orleans, etc. we wouldn't even be having this convo because he would be putting up garbage numbers. Put Irving on any of those teams and he would be playing just as good.
-Kyrie does play with sessions at times so that point is moot
-I would say the only times kyrie lacks on the defense of end is because he's not fully into at the time, but that comes with being a 19 yr old rookie who played 11 games i college. So i would say when Irving is trying his defense is just as good as Rubio.
- Irving has Jamison, Luke harangody, Hollins, Anthony parker..... yet Rubio still has Love ,Beasly and even derrick williams...
@followtheliters but then we must admit that Jamison is still pretty much a decent a player, plus Anderson is really playing well at both ends of the floor this year!
I' am personally sick of hearing the debate between Irving and bricky Rubio. You have to be flat out dumb to think Rubio is better than Irving. Rubio dishes the ball to Love, while Irving has Jamison. Also, add to the fact that Irving plays about 7 min less than Rubio. NO doubt if Kyrie gets another player he will be a 20/10 guy.
- Rubio shares the field almost at all times with another point guard, meaning he doesn't dominate the ball as much as his minutes suggest
- He plays near elite level defence, while Irving's defence is still very lacking (his coach even agrees)
- Rubio has Love, but he also has scrubs like Johnson, Randolph, Darko, Ridnour, Tolliver etc. Using your crystal ball logic, give Rubio a proper SG and he would average 15 assists. You can train a jumpshot, but not Rubio's elite vision
