I remember this moment so well. It was a Saturday, early December. We were decorating the Christmas tree and i was trying to keep track of the game at the same time. It became a media-hyped NFL story for the next several days. I'm from Boston but i sure loved my Baltimore Colts. Super Bowl V remains to this day my most favorite of all Super Bowls...
Hey RRaquello, if that fan would have gotten up and challenged Curtis, he would have got his clock cleaned again. Are you kidding? Curtis was, as seen in the video, a bad dude. He would have enjoyed taking another shot at that knucklehead.
This was Mike's reason for it. (I read it somewhere.) "He was violating an ordanance and I simply enforced it." The fan did try to sue Curtis and The Colts, but in a rare case of judicial sanity, The judge threw it out.
That guy should of got up & confronted Mike Curtis. He should of said, "You can't do that to me" and took a swing at him. I'd like to of seen that fight.
Mike Curtis was great and a throw back player who came to inflict punishment and play smart, winning football. How he wasnt voted the MVP of Sper Bowl 5 after he made a dozen tackles and made the games most crucial play with his Interception of Craig Morton with 28 seconds left (Chuck Howley was the only loosing player to get the award).Mike Curtis belongs in the hall of fame along with Tommy Nobis,Chris Hanburger,Pat Fisher,Bill Bergey,LeeRoy Jordan,Mike Lucci,Ken Stabler,Ray Guy,and Alex Karras.
well damn... i come to watch a clip that I haven't seen in a while for a chuckle, and wind up pissed... I thought Mad Dog WAS in the HOF... He definitely should be. I wonder how close he's gotten before, as far as the voting.
Mike Curtis played in the golden age of middle linebackers. Just to name a few - Butkus, Nobis, Nitschke, Willie Lanier, Lee Roy Jordan. These were guys that didn't come off for passing plays and had to play the run and get back in coverage.
Mike "The Animal" Curtis was one of the greatest linebackers, unbellievable intensity and hated to see enemy runners make yardage. That idiot getting clocked by Mike was freakin awesome. I wish he would have done it again. You're freakin awesome Mike, you belong in the Hall of Fame!
I couldnt agree more....Mike Curtis is a Hall Of Famer in any era by any standard, and Fernandez belongs in also, along with Jerry Kramer, GB guard...
@MIKEAVO I had such a list for years. Ray Guy is #1 on it. Tom Flores is my highest ranked coach on this list. I'm glad that I could finally take NFL Films Founder Ed Sabol off the list as a Contributor. Halls of Fame in General are a joke,
I agree Manny he was the center piece to the no name defense an another great player lost though the crack of time it is A crying shame you got coke head dancing pussies in the hall before real men that played the game the way it should be played I am sorry the HOF is A joke now days all the real players who belong their should go and remove their bust to keep them self's from further embarrassment.
well since nothing but reporters are doing the voting on the HOF well Mike will never make it
It should be all of the members of the HOF that are still with us doing the voting now not some one who never at the highest level in the sport of football
@NFLranking -he was wild---I love his comment after this game---Reporter said why did you hit that guy so hard---you could have really injured him? Curtis said----he was trying to run with the ball.
My only regret is that Curtis didn't hospitalize this jackass, then the police do a "Rodney King" on national TV as they drag him off of the field he doesn't belong on, where upon his release he'd spend 6 months in a jail cell. Why anyone regards this behavior with anything other than contempt escapes me. It's the epitome of "Hey everybody!!Look at me!! I have no talent and can't be on the field as a player, but I can take away the attention from the people who sacrifice and commit to the game."
I was a Colts fan since 1970 when I was 5 yrs old. My favorite player was Mike Curtis and Tom Matte. I have been looking for this video and finally someone has it! God Bless Ya!

@yomamakunt
Curtis should have been MVP in SB V. Howley had a great game, but you gotta give more points to the winner to start with.
He had that crucial int. at the end and was also involve in the Duane Thomas fumble near the goal line.

Yea there are too many of the great players left out of the hall of fame from the 50s 60s 70s and early 80s
Sorry todays game not the same level of years ago cause if yesterdays players had the rules today
All the QBs and WRs would all be over 100,000 yards

It's so true..too many deserving player 's left out of the HOF while ESPN created players are able to get in....the HOF is becoming a joke....

Mike Curtis was the heart of that Colt 'D
that pounded Dallas into submission in Super
Bowl V 16-13.
I agree he should be in Hall Of Fame along
with Manny Fernandez of Miami.

e38691, I e-mailed you a video of Mia/Oak '74
playoff game in which Manny Fernandez beats
the crap out of a piece of scum Raider fan
who had ran onto the field and punched Nick
Buoniconti in the stomach. Nick says on the
video that Manny would have killed the guy
if they had not pulled him off.

This is one of my fondest memories of the NFL. Talk about getting hit by a freight train. Mike Curtis' greatest "hit" took place on a civilian.
Curtis was like Pat Fischer and Ronnie Lott, he wasn't a big guy but boy could he hit! Long live Baltimore Colts #32.

The a hole tried to sue Mike but thank God it was 1971 and it was thrown out of court.
I think it was Bill Curry said in another interview Mike what are you doing? That is
One of our fans. Mike's reply
Was he was breaking a city ordnance and I was enforcing it. Softy left a comment how that the a hole in question
Was hurting till this day I had to say good then he will think about doing something before he does it
That is what's wrong with America no accountability for your actions.
