you can do a similar thing with an akai apc20 or 40 just set the loops up in ableton live and set the clips playin loop and trigger them with the controller and have fun with it.

my friend has a launchpad and he's managed to write a code that allows him to choose which of the 3 led colors he wants to use, i dont know how well it plays with other programs though.

i think they really kicked them selves in the foot with the pricing because this thing requires a buzzing community mainly for peal and max/msp plugs to run through it making more than just a button matrix at the retail price plus forking out another how ever many hundreds for max isnt appealing for most people especially when everything it does isnt undooable without one....i have got alot of great melodies and rhythm out of them though using boiing and mlr so i do appreciate their uses

what i think, is. all the tracks you put on there are loops, then you can control it by where you what the sound to start from if you aren't just letting it play through the track. ie 4 beats in the verse and you want to mix it up by hitting the 3rd beat a couple times then letting it roll back to normal. if that makes sense

you have to use a computer with a monome. it's never just a monome. usually used with the program Max/MSP, sometimes Ableton or Reaktor.
