How to fix PS2 Power Ribbon - Part 1

I went to clean mine yesterday, and i had the flipped up ps2 cover on the end of the table, and it had dust on it, so i blew on it like a retard, and the ribbon came out

i was cleaning my lens and my stupid girlfriend ripped out the ribbon and broke it, so my question is there anyway to turn it on and spit out the disk without it. and i dont have the money to buy a new ribbon.

Sorry to hear. She's not stupid, she was being curious I guess haha. But yes there is something called cog swapping which involves you cutting a plastic card (old credit card, gift card) into a tool that can pull it out.

in that video hes doing something that you dont need to do which is switching games but he shows you how to open it clearly. there is a diagram at the end of the vid for cutting the card.

@PrayAndPlayForEver thanks. and ive never heard of your situation before. the only thing i would say to do, and this is only if youre comfortable with it, is to try and see if you can break the top of it off and then just get some electrical tape to hold it down. I really dont know much of anything else with the console so i could be completely wrong and that may ruin the ps2 so be careful. good luck

I have the ps2 version 7 and its pretty much the same, only difference is the ribbon port is a slide in, its a little difficult to get the ribbon to go back in, we had to rock it back and fourth very gently for it to go back in, but after just a few rocks it fit snuggly back in place :-)

At the end, i was able to fix everything BUT the laser beam!!

The shit got unhooked and it's now impossible for me to plug it back!!

Because the slot is located in a such a TIGHT spot. UNless if i would dismental the whole entire playstation. Which is something that i will not bother to do.

You're right. Sony are doing this on purpose. Making it impossible for us to fix our consoles. So that we would have to spend more money on it.

put something underneath the cord where you plug it in like 2 game cases stacked together so it pushes the cord up a little but. if id doesnt work that way put something on top of the cord so it pushed it down. it might just be the that the contacts in the cord or the system moved a little bit.

yeah its probably the laser lens or whatever, i dont know too much about this shit but my best piece of advice is to just buy a new laser and get some info on how to install it.

hey, i have an original ps2, its a little diffrent then this one, but the ribbon to the right of the power ribbon,the one thats under the disc reader, the blue thing that keeps the ribbon at the end straight, so you can plug it in right, came off. i jammed it in there, put a black peice of tape on it and then tried, but it still wont work/go in, i need your help cause i want to play silent hill 2 really bad.
