  • I heard this song on Pandora and I was hooked lol. I love Monty Python!

  • "Nobody will go, sir, if it's not kosher, then no show, sir." - Best line in the song =P

  • David Hyde Pierce was BORN to play this role, utterly fantastic!

  • Niles Crane singing in a knight's attire.... best thing ever

  • @Godaiseirei

It was hay that is why everyone laughed when they yelled hey!

  • .....was.....was that... a ... was that a BLOCK OF SPAM THEY WHEELED ACROSS STAGE O_O!?! AHH!

  • Fiddler

  • I enjoy a singing Gentille if it's you, David

  • niles, huh...I hadn't heard that...

  • When I went to see this I lost my shit when they brought out the bay on the cart at 3:25

  • @SableDement hay*

  • The crowd reaction makes this even more amazing to watch

  • "...you may have unleavened bread..." Haha!

  • So true. In my camp's production of this show (first ever off broadway/tour) they had lighting on the walls of jewish stars. I love the Fiddler dance

    HAY!

  • If it's not kosher then no show sir!

  • Hay!

  • DAMN-O!

  • wow just amazingtcan't velieve i missed this in london

  • this song is very much true to life !

  • He's so goregeous (especially when he's at the piano). Mm...

  • I would LOVE to be a part of this show. I'd actually audition to be Sir Robin JUST so I can do this song. xD

  • In the hungarian version, played in Madách Theater at Budapest, they do the whole Broadway show, all the gags, all the songs - only one tiny alteration: at this song instead "jew" they sang "hungarian".

    Hmmmm.....

  • @LodrogiGyuBa why is that? wierd..

  • @LodrogiGyuBa In Germany it were jews too, but most people didn't dare to really laugh about that. Ok, I think most people even didn't know about the jews and the Broadway, but they were still like "Oh I'm afraid to laugh about that". Well I had fun and I laughed because it was just that, very funny in a non insulting way.

  • It's not the sort of thing you tell a heavily armed Christian

  • I get the feeling they liked it...

  • Just hoping there wasnt any Jews in the audince

  • @LhamoEx Naw, it's cool. Broadway show attendees are heavily Jewish, hence the joke. All my Jewish friends could take a joke and thought it was really funny!

  • @boihero Thats good too know!

  • I guess 4 Jews didn't get chosen 4 King Arthur's army

  • is that david hyde peirce by any chance? i know i'm spelling it wrong but all i know is that he looks like niles from fraiser :D

  • @crimsonprankster Yeah it is =)

  • @crimsonprankster Your are correct that is who it is. He was in the originals with Tim Curry. He is really talented too.

  • i saw this musical last week in belgium and it was the funniest thing i've ever seen :D

  • This is my favorite one!!! i can sing the whole thing

  • I suppose we better go find some Jews then

  • He is amazing! Hahahahah! XD

  • As a jew a truly appreciate this song!

  • Well - whoever did tape it shouldn't have been taping it. ;P

  • ITS FRASIERS BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Omg DHP is amazing. xD

  • At the version I saw it was a Yamaha piano. So when he sat down He said. "Yahmaha... They promised me a yamaka!" and when he fell off the stool he put on a seat belt that was attached to it.

  • For the 2010 showing in South Korea, this song instead satirized other Broadway musicals instead of joking about Jews, the whole shtick would be lost in translation so it was satirizing theater routines both domestic and international instead.

  • so which python's jewish based off this songs message?

  • Those cups must be somehow glued to the hats. :)

  • @ZwiekszoneRyzyko

Actually, it can be done without anything holding them on. It has been done.

  • @sno0323

I saw a production of this earlier this year where one the cups almost fell off the guy's head

  • Aw man. I wanted to see the part when King Arthur asked Patsy, "Well, why didn't you just tell me you were Jewish?!?"

Then Patsy says, "Well, sir... That's not the sort of thing you say to a heavily armed Christian..." XDXDXD

  • @ErbbaIpaj Patsy says that at the end of the show when they bring up the audience member.

  • @stillts151 Really? huh. Well, I saw this like... three years ago. lmao But I could've sworn it was around this scene... Eh.

  • @ErbbaIpaj I actually love that line. It's my favourite line from any musical... ever.

  • @chanaosen lmao! It's definitely one of my favorite lines. I'm pretty sure my favorite-favorite is "I'm sleeping with him." "So am I." from Cabaret. xD

  • notice the menorah on the piano

  • So friggin' hilarious

  • *sniff* this song... it's just so... BEAUTIFUL!

lol but seriously, i love DHP soooo fricken much. he's too talented. it's kind of ridiculous.

  • I saw this show in the west end 3 years ago and laughed so much I can't remember most of it, but I do remember it was hillarious. Thank you Monty Python. X

  • "Papa can you hear me?" - that great Streisand Reference.

and the bottle dance from Fiddler on the Roof.

    Spamalot is fantastic. :)

  • 3 people don't have jews...

  • This was one of my favorite song from the play. I saw it this week in Canada and it was awesome

  • I just saw Spamalot in Poland yesterday. Our Sir Robin was freakin' outstanding. Looked kinda Jewish and had a really powerful voice.

  • David You are amazing as sir Robin!! BUT I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU AS NILES ON FRASIER! :)

  • I love this but I can't help it when i see this it just feels like Niles Crane is acting like Sir Robin... the man is amazing one way or the other though....

  • Aw :) Niles Crane! :)

  • THEY CUT THIS SONG FORM THE CURRENT TOUR!!!

    Annoyed

Thumbs up so EVERYONE can see.

  • @Cranberryvid That is terrible. It's one of the most popular numbers!

  • @Cranberryvid WHAT

I'm Jewish and this is an outrage!

  • @Cranberryvid I just saw it a few weeks ago, it was in then

  • @Cranberryvid kiddin, right? got tickets for next week in Arkansas.

  • @Cranberryvid

I saw it last month in Canada and this song was there in it's entirety! It was, as always, one of the most popular numbers.

  • @Cranberryvid not the english one

they have just changed the word 'broadway' to showbiz'

  • @NHall609 aww... that's not as funny. I like the original better then. It makes more sense with the original context.

  • Hay!

  • /watch?v=utcdu49LSM0

  • Absolutely brilliant. Preserving moments of Broadway magic is what youtube is all about. Superb posting!

  • This song ALWAYS cracks me up XD!

  • David Hyde Pierce was perfect as Niles Crane, and he's perfect in this part.

  • Wow. I just saw this at the Fulton Opera house in Lancaster.. and it's soooo much better. You don't even know.

  • truly brilliant! hahahah. wow. i want to see this live. this would be an amazing show! and it's true, broadway wouldn't be where it is today, neither would movies or tv, if it wasn't for the jewish community. truly brilliant!

  • I don't get this broadway thing. Maybe it's because I've never been to one..?

  • @Illyria23alyssa yeah. SO much of Spamalot is a tribute to Broadway cliches. Like the Song That Goes Like This, Whatever Happened to My Part and His Name is Lancelot. A tip of the hat to New Yorkers (city area) in general as well.

  • @kuramasan oh! and the Dark and Very Expensive Forest!

  • @kuramasan Just curious, do you know if the show was altered to suit the audience when it showed in the West End in London? I saw Spamalot on Broadway, and it seems that there are jokes in it that people who don't live around NYC or its Metro area wouldn't get

  • Best piano cadenza... ever...

  • the piano part was so funny XD

  • The 3 people who disliked this must have not had any Jews! =)

  • Eric Cartman's head must be spinning.

  • When I saw this show in its Chicago preview, the audience reaction to this song was something else. There was an almost-audible intake of breath and you could see people looking at each other like, "Is it okay to laugh at this?" I didn't even hesitate - this song is FUNNY! Political correctness be damned!

  • Sir Robin is my favorite knight in Spamalot. XD

  • This is my favorite scene in this show!!! It never gets old and its absolutely funny as hell!

  • We don't have any Jews!

    Actually sir, I'm Jewish.

    Why didn't you tell me?

Well it's not really something you say to a heavily armed Christian.

AWESOME! I'm Jewish and I love this!

  • @brittanythebeast wait when do they say that in the clip?

  • @dayDreemer14 he doesnt

its the dialogue that follows between Patsy and King Arthur. it turns out that Patsy is Jewish ;)

  • @brittanythebeast In the show I saw they dragged a plant from the audience, who was said to be jewish, therefore getting the jew they needed to be successful on broadway.

  • Saw the UK touring production and was surprised when they'd changed the lyrics to "If you don't have any STARS". Not nearly as funny. Plus it robs Patsy of his best joke.

  • love it how he pauses for the audience to laugh at about 0.25 seconds and doesnt start till about 10 seconds later :)

  • Yes, David Hyde Pierce version <3

  • <333

  • what is it with the woman walking over with that thing on the cart?

  • @Musicalandmore she was transporting hay. Which is why they said "HEY!"

For me this was one of the funniest parts of the show!

  • @Musicalandmore HAY!

  • I want to go watch this soooo much!

Movies have let me down for entertainment, I find this more entertaining.

  • David looks hilarious in that wig XD He's HAWT!!!

  • David Hyde Pierce is hysterical and PWNS this role.

  • what is the guys supposed to be doing at 1:53 ? hes just punching air....

  • @kcummings611 Hes met to be showing off his muscles. Some actions in the songs of the shows involve paying attention to the lyrics - So I appoligise for the quality =)

  • @kcummings611

That is actually a girl. The only female minstrel in the group.

  • @kcummings611 i think that one is actually a girl. lol

  • what is guys who plays robins name?? hes fantastic

  • @kcummings611 Its David Hyde Pierce. He also played the part of Niles in 'Frasier'.

  • I adore DHP more than is healthy! LOVE LOVE LOVE this! And yes, Fanny Brice was a real person!

  • I love how they mock, like, every other play that was playing on Broadway at the time. Brilliant, but subtle.

  • the audience absolutely loved this song i would be surprised if any one was still on their chairs afterwards

  • in the "animals from zoos" section, i'm pretty sure someone just did a Wookie call.

  • Wher'd you find it??????

  • no matter how much my day has sucked this always makes it better

  • Bronnie will get this

  • i still dont get how he didnt get a Tony nomination for this performance

  • great great GREAT show!

  • I had the oppurtunity to see one of the last shows with the full original cast. It was the best show I've ever seen. I love it, thanks for putting the video up!

  • LOVE David Hyde Pierce

  • Hey! It's the girls from Castle Anthrax!

  • There will NEVER be a better Sir Robin than David Hyde Pierce!

  • @pursehappygal

We have one in the swedish verison, the standpcomedian Johan Glans!

  • @pursehappygal CLAY AIKEN

  • Hillarious! Genius Eric Iddle, one of the best musicals of all time, couldn't stop laughing when I went to see them on Broadway!!! LMFAO XD

  • i forgot how funny this was! only difference when i saw it in T.O. was that they started to play hockey night in Canada theme on the piano.

  • BelAir! I was there and heard that and I was the only one in our party next to my cousin who knew what this was! LOL!

  • *Bale of hay rolls on*

    HAY!

    *Bale of hay leaves*

Laughing so hard I can't BREATHE.

  • 2:24 - 3:29

    epic (:

  • freaking hilarious!

  • the hay part makes pee my pants everytime

  • David Hyde Pierce = WIN

  • Love DHP.

  • Rehearsals for a local performance of Spamalot start on Sunday! I'm rehearsal pianist!

  • You people in the USA can be so lucky that you have actors like David Hyde Pierce! The song and his performance are fantastic! They also tried to do Spamalot in Germany, but the translation is so bad and most of the audience is not able to understand the jokes. So sad...

  • @Arwen1964 thats so true...the german version is simply shit >_> for this song

  • I saw Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame (Der Glöckner von Notre Dame) in Berlin in 2000. I heard it had a successful run, but lord, was the show bad!

  • the bottle dance . . . or should I say the goblet dance . . . that was unbelievable.

  • Haha, Niles.

  • I laughed so hard with the Hay part that I missed the next few lines!!

  • What website did you find this on? I've been looking for a recording but cant find one.

  • That was too funny. I wish that they would bring Spamalot to Sacramento. I'd see it all the time.

  • we saw this on broadway,

the bit after he finishes on the piano is my favourite...(especially 3.08 onwards) looked FANTASTIC live, the crowd went wild

this vid has been uploaded a few times and always gets deleted.. hope this one stays

  • that was hilarious

  • are they still playing spamalot on broadway?

  • No. The show closed already, which sucks because it was so damn good!

  • It's true you know

where would broadway have been without Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Stephen Sondheim, or Fanny Brice, Zero Mostel, Jerome Robbins and all the rest of them?

All hail the Jews for making Broadway what it is today!

  • Half-Jewish.

  • @WillScarlet16 I think that's what this whole piece was about. Because many of Broadway's finest were Jewish. So it is a tribute in a way...

  • Broadway or American musical theatre and musicals in films wouldn't be the same without Jews, Black or Gay people. A large chunk of my hapiness I owe to them :)

  • @WillScarlet16 wait, Fanny Brice is a fictional character. do you mean Barbra Streisand?

  • @pineapplepie52 I hope to God you're joking.

Fanny Brice was a real person.

  • @pineapplepie52 Fanny Brice wasn't fictional. She was a real performer; "Funny Girl" starring Barbra Streisand is loosely based on her life...

  • its verry cool

  • this is one of my favourite song..XD

    it always makes me laugh

  • this song makes me soo happy
