  • Excellent trills.

  • sorry girl i gotta say my little sister could do better but maybe you just need a better reed who knows....

  • thanks for the comments everyone (except the stupid ones), its been two years since this recording :] I think I've improved since this, perhaps I should put a new video up...?

anyhow, thanks! i'll keep all the C-O-N-S-T-R-U-C-T-I-V-E criticism in mind :)

  • Wow, you guys can be mean. I think you actually did a pretty good job! It's an intermediate piece--relatively hard for someone at that age. Your tone's great, but just a little constructive criticism: it might help to tongue more strongly. You squeak a few times because you don't tongue. Arpeggios will come in time; in the mean time try to think of your hands relaxing. There's a tendency to tighten one's grip when playing fast. Just think relaxed. Good job overall though! :)

  • you picked a tough peice for someone to tackle, people have focused too much on your higher notes and not on your beautiful lower register. my advice would be to keep at it, the higher register comes with time. i'm sure any clarinet player would remember the time when their higher notes were less to be desired, my guess is that the negative comments are from people who dont fully undertstand how technically demanding they are. keep up the playing!!

  • Holy Moly! You're terrible!

  • @scclarinet2012 This is a year late, but excuse me? Have you even seen my other videos? Oh and you're SO nice to answer that question for me. How about we see a video of YOU playing then? Mind you I can honestly and earnestly say I've gotten a lot better since this video.

  • you have soo much moves.that is not god for clarinet player if he wont to be virtouso

  • Just had a curious question, what type of reeds are you using? I use Vandoren V12 strength 3 to a 31/2. My clarinet is a Ridenour 147. I kinda feel like trying the Gonzalez FOF reeds. I hear that they are even more consistent from box to box compared to Vandoren. Then again, my current setup is really nice anyway. People are still criticizing you even though this video is really old. I can just imagine how much you've improved. By the way, I play trumpet, clarinet, and flute. OH, and nice job!

  • I use the rue lepic 56 reeds by vandoren, size 4 (ugh they are SO expensive now, 60 for two boxes! D: ). Ridenour? I've never heard of a brand like that =P;. I've heard of those reeds..but I've never read much into them. My 56 reeds serve me well, but they are inconsistent--you know what? the best way is to make your own reeds LOL. Thank you, I do believe I have improved--and I got new clarinet(s) too! My teacher has peter eaton clarinets customized for him..i wish he would've told me sooner

  • OH, and I wanted to get 56 rue lepic reeds by vandoren but my music store doesn't have them and hasn't even heard of the rue lepics so that's why I got the V12s. Looks like you use some pretty hard reeds. For now, I'm using 31/2s but when I get to try Gonzalez FOF reeds, I'll get strength 4. I just want to gradually increase my embouchure resistance first. OH, and what mouthpiece would you recommend for V12 and rue lepic reeds? I was planning on getting the vandoren M15 traditional.

  • Yeah I know! Sam Ash used to sell them, but now they don't -0-; the only store I know that sells it is all the way in L.A so I get my teacher to get it i tried lowering it to 3.5 but those were too soft...:/ I use the vandoren M30 profile 88 since August, I either used M13 or M30 the past two years before this. vandoren is good. Do you have any stores that let you try the mouthpiece? You get your money's worth :), and at the bottom of the mouth piece, what shape do you have?

  • Ummm, what do you mean by "at the bottom of the mouthpiece, what shape do you have?" Do you mean like how wide the bore is? If so, the bore of my clarinet is .577.

  • sorry i'm writing so much..

wish he told me back in august he was gonna get new ones...:( should've given it to me!! peter eatons are beautiful clarinets =).

Thanks again! I've improved alot but I feel like I could've improved alot more--I scarcely see my teacher, he's been doing movie recordings...i'm gettinga new one...soon..i think and wow! I just play clarinet :(. =] you should post a vid!

i'll try to make a new one soon, i'm working on saint-saens right now

  • you have to practice some more

  • I notice that at 1:38 you are able to produce sound from your clarinet while it is not in your mouth. I'd love to know how you do this as my practice time is limited and it would be nice to be able to have the clarinet play itself while I attend to other things.

  • I am aware of this, and I am being honest in saying that it is the video that lags, I was using a digital camera for this and it always lags when I upload it, regardless of what I do. I am not recording over in this video, honestly. For starters, if I even wanted to fake play, where and why would I have a recording with bad articulation, squeaks, and no sense of timing during a couple phrases? Wouldn't I be picking Sabine Meyer, Michele Zukovsky or any other famous clarinetist? exactly.

  • Thank you. IIIII notice that davidbolg is an ass with no common sense.

  • it lags! toopid O:<

  • Your Bb is kinda choke up try to practice low notes to high notes. High notes are a little scratchy. And legato it would help you a lot.

Articulation needs improvment slurring was great.

  • Thank you for your advice,

I have been working a lot on my high notes, they've gotten much better since then =), so has my articulation (however I still think that needs a bit more work). But thank you so much for your advice, I'll be needing a lot, I have a bunch of auditions soon and I'll be playing this for a couple of them.

  • i'm hearing very good tone! what clarinet do you play? keep up the good work, pretty soon you'll be a pro!

  • Thank you :). I play an E11 buffet clarinet with an M30 mouthpiece, but I'm getting two R13s this friday!! (Bb and A) i'm excited =).

    thank you very much <3

  • that's awesome. i have an R13 (Bb) and it's the love of my life lol. it's a buffet crampron <3...i always brag about it like i am now haha. how do you like yours?

  • I really think all you need is a NEW REED!!!! I mean all the other stuff is there you just can't seem to start the note so just ge a new reed and you'll have it made! and if that don't work try a differt number 1/2,2,21/2,3. I really thinks that it !

  • Oh no, its not the reed, I wasn't accustomed to starting a note with my tongue, you see, the past two years before this when I had a different teacher, I was reluctant to even actually tongue (I puffed), but then i got another teacher and well...things changed...

but I'm working on the whole starting a note thing, thanks for pointing it out though!

  • no problem keep working!!!!!!

  • forget all of these haters-u were AWESOME! awesome sound but u need to fix ur embouchere a little that's probably y u were squeaking a little but other than that rly good

  • need to make a tighter embesher(spelling)???? cuz you gettin lots of undertones.... but its still very good

  • Are you even playing it? Or is the video cutting? Anyways, no offense, but you sound like my sister when she plays. And why did you interrupt during a trill? Oh yeah, and for Mozart, you trill on the higher note rather then starting on the note marked with the trill.

  • mmm...not so good...

  • tone is nice but I don't get the peaceful feeling I'm supposed to get from listening to this. I have the same problem when I'm doing this as well. try to feel the piece. I recommend either Alfred Prinz's recording with the Wiener Phil or Karl Leister's recording with the Berliner Phil.

    otherwise, you're good! :)

  • what version were you playing? it was short

  • are you speaking of the cadenza? I was using the cadenza mozart put in his clarinet quintet, my teacher wrote it down for me...

if you're talking about the version, I was using the concert and contest one [of which i lost :/ two famous people signed it too!!!]

  • what you just said was confusing :],i dont know but i have it ,and its revisd by simeon bellison.i think it has the cadenza.

  • haha I dunno what i'm saying =P;;

I have that one too now...since i lost my first one :/

  • hey ! sounds good ,im actually gonna play this for my section leader audition next

    ps-thanks for all your help.

  • thanks :)

np!! If you need help on this piece I'll be glad to help =D.

  • hello:]

ahah i'm now where as good as youu are-_-;I'm older too, by just a year l0l.

    but ya keep it up(:

  • wow, you sound great.

if i moved around that much i'd be sqeaking and losing eye contact and stuff... but still, you rock.

  • :) this is sonja... your soo awesome at clarinet...0.o

  • How about.. lets record flight of the bumblebee ok?? Are you up to my challenge?

  • Oh lala! mm perhaps I'd enjoy such a crazy challenge...have YOU played the piece? I've never laid eyes on it in my entire life on the piece though :]; but I'll accept...I think...just let me have two weeks to do my all state recording and my youth ensemble audition :].

  • miyoko.. its been almost a yr since i last touch my instrument.. i shall touch it again soon.. lets have a friendly battle.. =)

  • you ARE a clarient pro. HA ppl are replying..lea many times do i have to tell you that you LITERALLY rock on clarient. screw CYMO ppl YOURE soo much better. band geeks 4eva(orch dork? i thout band geek) *sob sob* LOL its okay.

  • hey i played this piece for my diploma you play it pretty well i tried to do a recording and it sounded terrible, but about the arpeggios, if u are on an A clarinet, you can play C... low E low G middle C E G CE and

    D... low F low G low B FGBd etc

it's much easier, and that's how it was played on the basset clarinet!

now how do you get so many views and publicity.

  • :] its a lovely piece isn't it? Thanks! Yeah I still have problems with that, I'm playing it on the Bb clarinet instead, but the notes are the same.

I really don't know how I get it all o_O; its kinda creepy XD

  • im not in band .. orch dork lol anyways u got some problems to fix but overall 2 thumbs up XD

  • thanks!! I'm sort of an orch dork myself [i prefer to be in orchestras more...eheh]

    thank you :]

  • you rock i play trombone visit me under me just work on the begginig but otherwise you rock!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry if this insults you but I think it would help you a lot to drop down 1/2 strenght reeds and try to relax while playing because your movements seems to stressed out specially in your shoulders. Also practice breathing right and let every thing work in harmony breathing, throat, tounge and forming of your mouth(which I like to call embouchure not just the forming of your mouth). For more information I recommend the book Clarinet by Jack Brymer.

  • oh no it doesn't insult me at all! I'm just looking for good feed back :). I dropped back down to a 3 1/2 sometime over the summer. Thanks for the tip about the embouchure, I'll keep it in mind, thank you!

  • well.. you play very good !!

but in the begining you have some prob with ur B and C note..and i heard some peeeeb notes ..:P but u play very good!!What grade are you in now?

  • DUDE! YOU FREAKING ROCK!!! (and you ARE a clarinet pro!) lol. and you got lots of views and suscribers too :D

  • Was this for CBDA All-State?

  • no, this was for SCSBOA all southern, CBDA all state was menuet :] why? were you in all state? :o?

  • CBDA was Menuet? Thought All-Northern, Southern, and All-State were all the same audition piece.

And yeah, I was in Concert and Symphonic Band my frosh and soph year. I didn't make All-State band junior year, but I made the CODA/CMEA All-State Orchestra :)

    What grade are you in?

  • I'm entering my freshman year. Sorry I got you confused! I was thinking of the middle school all state. what was the piece last year for all state? Just curious :];. Mmm are you trying out this year? [thats a rhetoric question isn't it xP]

  • Ok, that makes sense now. I was like...what? Menuet? The HS audition piece was the Mozart this past year.

I can't, I'll be a college freshmen at Long Beach :P For an incoming HS freshmen, you're pretty good :) I wish I was as good as when I was a freshmen >_<

  • really?? it was mozart last year? :O thats so cool <3. ^_^

    Ahh :D I see~. Thanks ^_^!

  • wow=] Iv'e been playing for 3 years too and i just started learning his today...But i have to sayy your Amazing at it! My notes Never sound that smooth...there ways choppy..but i hope someday to be abke to pla it like you!!

  • awe thank you =). Its all in the long tones :]. Good luck!

  • i think youre acatually pretty good....keep up the work...and try your very best

  • How long have you been playing? It was generally quite a good performance. Focus on the technical aspects of the instrument first - tone will come later, it develops as you become more of a musician. I think you should try a softer reed (maybe 1 1/2 - 3 depending on how long you have been playing). This should increase tone quality and improve your breathing and lung capacity, as you will not have to blow so hard.

  • Thank you for your advice! I agree, I was a bit reckless back then always putting the musicality before the technical aspect of it. I've been playing for 3 years. I thank you for your advice about the reeds but unfortunately the strength [3 1/2] became too soft for me, :/. But thank you for your advice, I'll keep it in mind!

  • awe thanks! you remind me alot of my friend :] she always calls me a prodigy...suspicious xD

  • YOUR SOO GOOD! AND A PRODIGY! LOL!

  • omg, this is so cool. I think one of my friends was playing this for a demonstration or something. Haha, i suck at the clarinet. xD when ever i hear people who are better than me, i feel bad, haha, well yeah. awesome. :]

  • haha :), yeah it makes me feel bad too XD but don't worry :). thanks for ze comment <3

  • Hey, loved it, great job, and to be honest, you're about 50 million times better than me on the clarinet! I only started last year :)

  • thank you! Awe don't say that, you'll probably be better than me XD;

  • Practice octaves. Open throat and loosen ambauture. Really practice with a metronome and really work on your rhythm. Your tones pretty good though you're well on your way.

  • I hope you meant 'embouchure.'

  • thank you for your advice! Just recently I started working on octaves :] and I'm trying to open my throat and loosen my embouchure. I'll take your advice! thank you!

  • You have a good tone. I think you should try to check your read position, or grade because you are producing air sounds and not having the full sound of the reed making the sound. You need also to pay attention the dynamics for this Mozart work. In my opinion you will be good clarintist if you practice if you master the full compass of notes the clarinet will produce. Low - middle - high registers need to be praticed regulary. Well done ... Leopold

  • As an old player I need to advise the playwer that holding the instrument still will make for a better all around performance. I hear nice intonation in all registers. Most of the "problems" will be corrected by holding the instrument still.

  • Nice work. Keep at it, and use these videos as a learning experience. I find it is always interesting to see and hear myself on video, gives me a new perspective. Are you a music major? Thanks for subscribing to my flute videos.

  • thank you! Yeah, its always so different hearing a recording of yourself :). Mmm I'm going to be one, I'm still in 8th grade.

    you're welcome!

  • Ha, you're better than me on this.

I have a week to learn this piece..O.o

  • bad bad bad!

  • Why is that when you take a breath the sound is still coming out of your clarinet. You move around way to much. Maybe if you didn't move around that much you'd play better. Why do you squeak so much? You need some serious help at that clarinet.

  • Hmm... more inconsistancies in your finger movements here, but still trying your best its pretty good. I wish I kept practicing this, but I went into Webber's Concerto #1 as soon as I finished Concertino. I think too many people try the Mozart without accompaniment and don't quite grasp how difficult it can really be with a live orchestra. What other literature are you working on?

  • yeah I still have a hard time with those runs, mainly because of the posture of my fingers. its fun to practice even though I've practiced it a jillion time. I've worked w/ 2 ppl on this, my teacher and this 1 lady 4 a concert dinner, it was stressful D:. I haven't started looking over new pieces w/ my teacher yet [all state and all southern got in the way] but currently I'm taking interest in learning Brahms or Weber, but those are beyond my level.

  • i think it would help if you push more air into the instrument, and loosen up your lips. that might helpt he sqeeking.

it also might help if you dont move so much so you can read the music.

  • PRACTICE SLOWLY -the runs. The name of the game is making music. More dynamic contrast also.

  • Hey, not a bad tone at the top -- it's easy to go sharp there. Keep plugging away. VERY nice start!

  • yeah :/ I should've kept my sides firmer and loosened up a bit, thank you!

  • Better than I can do. Don't fret about posters who advise you on the tehchnical spects. That's your teacher's job, and anyway the Mozart Concerto is a piece you can work on for your entire life. Bask in your achievement so far!

  • XD I think many can do better then me at this still ^_^. Yup, I think any concerto is like that. Thank you :)

eh, this info isn't really important, but I just wanted to say thanks for all ze tips you guys gave me, I got first part [either second or first chair iono...] in ze full orchestra of all southern :] so thanks guys!

  • My sister is having to teach herself on the clarinet and I was jsut wondering what an intune one sounded like! Thankyou :) perhaps you could give her a tip (see my videos, the one called "festive duet") thanks

  • awe, thank you ^_^, she has to teach herself? :/ hm I see. I'll check it out ^^

  • Try getting the notes and rthymn down before you actually post the video

  • good tone, but there's more that needs to be worked on. Don't worry about tone, but the technical, pitch, and style aspects of the piece need improvement. This should be smooth without any fuzz. Very good tone overall though.

  • yes, I should have been much smoother >_<; thank you :) yes I know, this piece isn't all about tone thank you very much ^_^ I'll work more on it.

  • Squeaking, yay! xP

Homg, every time I have to watch these things twice. I get caught up in j00r movements. Ish cool

Anywho, yeah, you know your mistakes. *points to the place with words*

You have a really nice sound in your lower octave. *ish repetitive* But I like teh lower octave, so HA!
