can anyone tell me if it would be stupid to buy a 5d2 now? how long could it take for the next gen to come out?! .. i saved up. i want to shoot. but could i end up regretting my decision if i buy a 5d2 now? although the only update to the camera that i would miss if i bought one now is the fix for the line dropping in video mode. I still doubt if the same will be fixed maintaining the same form factor and price. a naked picture of my friend to whoever answers this first!
@chaosderby I have the 5D : from my point of view, you should wait. I already tried the 7D and it is already significantly more advanced than the 5D MII (particularly the AF). If you can wait, then wait. Btw. keep the shoots of your naked friend :-)
@chaosderby I am in the same dilemma. I believe though all signs point to a 5D Mark iii Coming out this year. I would say in the next six months. What I am going to do is go ahead and buy one, get a couple lenses. When the 5D mark iii comes out sell my mark ii maybe as a package, not sure. Then buy the 5D mark iii when it comes out. The good thing is the 5D mark ii will still sell like hotcakes.
@Ipad2Adventures new kid on the block a.k.a d800. video looks promising. i am gonna sit back and watch for a while. considering that i am not heavily invested into canon switching should not be a problem for me. but the heavy 36.3 megapixel sensor is kind of scary though.
@MrNevermore82 thanks! there isn't really a clear answer, if you want shallow depth of field, the 5d2(full frame) wins hands down, the Sony records at a crop factor of 1.86. but has great af during video and image stabilization. if you want the look of the above video, you can't get it with the A77 the 5D2 is your only choice really...
@MrNevermore82 Canon doesn't do autofocusing during video, making the Sony the better choice. Notice how most Canon videos have that manual focus hunting - awful !
