unless you're hunting a bear i think that the .50AE is just overkill. the .44 is the perfect round for this gun , plus the 50 ammo is just pricey. great video
One AWESOME looking gun!!! I'm considering purchasing the matte chrome finish in .44 mag and having that as a add-to-my collection piece and possibly as a home defense purpose. Your thoughts on the home defense purpose?? Great video on an excellent looking firearm!!
@bazookajoethethird Yeah COD, and the movies play it up like its an awesome tactical gun, which it is not. I can say without a doubt that no soldier would want to carry a 5 lb. sidearm into battle. Yes, this thing weights approx. 5 lbs. loaded with 8 rounds of 44 mag. Not the best go to war gun. Limited on rounds and VERY heavy compared to other pistols. However, it is extremely accurate, and well balanced. I love shooting this gun. I would definitely NOT carry it as a sidearm though.
@LSjeans4 ahh! brillaint. so what is the little 'switchy thing' by the trigger guard? I know on my BB gun dessert eagle, thats the safety and the ambidextrous safety is the fire selector xD ?
@Sheepshearer98 on the umarex baby desert eagle (i have the same one) that is a safetey swich on the real deal thats the mag release. im assuming your under 21 like me and you got the bb gun like i did lol. i want the full sized umarex blowback co2 deagle it looks super fun to shoot and shoots flat pellets
@Sheepshearer98 does your gun cock back like a real pistol? on the bb version the ambi safety is molded on. look up umarex blowback desert eagle and youll know whats the difference.
@LSjeans4 hey, my Sidearm is a CYMA airsoft gun. yea, its not blow-back. I thought the moulded on bit was the safety but mines quite different from the Umarex Pistol, the mag is in the pistol grip and it's electric, everything is metal but the lower receiver which is a rubbery ABS plasticand in the UK the a percentage of the gun has to be a bright colour its the slide on mine, which is blue. thanks for your help :) I am under 21 BTW :P
@draco2202 the only ammo issues that I have had with my gun have come from Winchester white box ammo. Magtech shoots great in this gun. However, every gun is different. A different gun could yield different results.
@CupWaSoup I bought this one brand new for $1500.00 out the door, which was a very good deal considering this gun usually went for around $1700.00 or $1800.00 before taxes. That was in 08 or 09 though.
@GTHEBESTDUDE The 50AE has the most power out of all the rounds you listed, but has significantly more recoil. A shooting magazine said that it generates about 60% more recoil than a 44 magnum. Of course the 50AE is a 50 caliber round, where the 44 mag is a 44 caliber round. They both have around the same velocity, but the 50AE hits harder delivering about 400 more ft.lbs. of energy. That's vs a 300gr 50 and a 240gr 44. You are going to pay the price with your wrist and your wallet with the 50.
I'm looking at this in 50AE myself. I definitely don't have a bottomless wallet, but if I'm going all out here, I'm going for the fifty. I already have a few .44's, so I really want to try the 50.
I REALLY get a kick out of the bolt and the extraction..... gonna feel like my AR!
@CTKix Nope. I'm gonna put some Houges on it. It definitely has its own feel in the recoil. It's more of a push than a snappy upward pop, like a revolver. It will still come up on you, so you have to hold it down. If you don't manage the recoil properly it will jam, or not cycle all the way and not pick up another round. The kinetic energy of the slide needs to stay as lateral as possible. I try to manage the recoil with my shoulder by keeping my elbow locked. This works very well for me. Thanks
@TACTICALOPERATIONS10 As with any firearm as long as you keep it clean and oiled, it should last you 2 or 3 lifetimes if not longer. Nickel isn't very corrosive but the satin finish likes to hold on to the fouling around the gas piston. It takes quite a bit of scrubbing to get it clean around that area, but otherwise it's a great finish. Thanks!
@g54023 i got the 50ae its very expensive 60 a box where i live but luckily for me the department pays for it awesome for the range and if a baddie sees it he usually backs down
@supercoupe86 Go right ahead if you wanna pay $35 for a box of 20 rounds when you can get a box of 50 44 magnums for about $29. Also, good luck finding a store that carries 50 AE. Not many stores do. Unless you're going to do some serious big hunting game hunting, or you have a bottomless wallet to target shoot, the 50 AE is way overkill in my opinion.
@g54023 You are correct on the expenses on buying the ammunition. 29 bucks a box isn't cheap. I just like the excitement of shooting it. I have plenty of other pistols to enjoy, I guess it's more of a special occasion thing.
all desert eagles will jam when they are BRAND NEW, you have to break them in, but after about 300 round through it, your "lucky" to get a jam at all, i have only shot reloads through my desert eagle...... great gun, if you hate it, its just becauze you have never shot one, or you just dont know anything about guns.....
I was shot 3 time with a Desert eagle 44 magnum in a drive-by! you don't wanna be in front of this gun! all 3 bullet went in and out. i woke up 2 week later! had to learn how to walk all over again! but think god im still here!
@beautiiiful18 I have to say I really doubt the chances of living after being hit with 3 .44's, unless of course the case was poor placement of shots.
@beautiiiful18 That's nothing. I was shot 14 times with a 50 caliber Desert Eagle, all of them exited, punching out holes the size of XL Pizza Hut pie. I was in coma for 2 days and went through a 3 hour surgery. I was in rehab for 128 years where I learned to walk, talk, type, and masturbate again. Whew, wouldn't want that 50-caliber slugs penetrating me again!
Because of this review, I think I'll go with brushed chrome chambered in .44 mag. I was afraid I would only be able to use Magnum Research's ammunition. Have you tried DoubleTap? If so, do they feed reliably?
@BlowhobPeenad I haven't tried Double Tap ammo. I have only tried Magtech, Remington, Fiocchi, and Winchester. Winchester whitebox would not feed in my gun. Even after I got it back from Magnum Research. Just a reminder also, DO NOT shoot lead bullets through your Desert Eagle. The barrel has polygonal rifling. Lead build up could cause major problems. Let me know if you try Double Tap ammo, and how it performs. Have fun and be safe with that new gun!
@fear693872 Not the Desert Eagle. The baby eagle or Jericho 941 is available in 9mm, .40 S&W (10mm), and 45 ACP. The Desert Eagle Mark XIX is available in .357 magnum, .44 magnum, and .50 AE.
@fear693872 No. The Desert Eagle was designed to be a magnum pistol in a semi automatic frame, therefore only taking magnum cartridges (.357, .44, .50 AE). The 10mm is not a magnum cartridge, so no.
Great review, except the military doesn't use desert eagles. Too big, and heavy, plus a very low capacity. Fun movie gun, getting my 50 ae delivered today.
All that I have used is JSP's (Jacketed Soft Points). They have worked really well for me. I cannot use Winchester "white box" ammo in my gun. It will not feed without jamming at least once per mag. Every gun is different, so do some testing. Yours may prefer a different ammo than mine.
i just got a .44 barrel today for mine! what ammo is the best and best price? i dont know anything about the .44 mag but i have seen a lot of options for the 44
I'm having a hard time deciding between this and a Smith And Wesson 500.
The only cons I could see with the 500SW is that it's only capable of holding five rounds, but it's only logical. I have found a place that sells ammunition for them at a reasonable price compared to other stores, but still fairly expensive. That's about it.
Now with the Desert Eagle, you have to purchase mags which are 40-50 bucks each, and they're prone to failure from what I've heard. If you could convince otherwise.
It's all in personal preference and what you are using the firearm for. The 500 S&W is a little over-kill in my opinion. Unless you are hunting bear or something extremely large, then a .44 magnum has plenty of knock down power, it's also more practical. Desert Eagles require an experienced shooter. If you don't handle the recoil properly, they tend to jam. You won't have that problem with a revolver, but that's not my preference. That's why I went with the DE. Happy shopping, and good luck.
I really don't know if it's easy to scratch or not, but it I know that it is a little tougher to keep it looking new. If your worried about scratches, go with a matte or brushed chrome. That's just my opinion though. Get what you want.
First! I fired one of these just yesterday, for the first time. Man, that is a biiig gun. It's chambered in .357 magnum. Very controleable. Even one-handed. Recoil is about on par with a regular 9mm, i'd say. Maybe a tad more sensation, because of the huuuge chunck of metal moving backwards. That thing is built like a rifle. It's accurate, too. Every time i see one, i am just amazed by the sheer size of it. This is THE gun to show off to friends and family. "Look at what i bought myself..."
