Nixon had to bring the Bretton system down in 1971 because it was horrible. It was not the classic gold standard ( It was the Breton Wood system) put together by a mix of theories from Keynes and White. The problem with Dr. Ron Paul is that he seems to always talk about the same issues and somehow he believes and has convinced a few others that adhering to a gold standard would fix the problem. He states the FIAT system was created in 1971... OK, when did we have the great depression, which was clearly more severe than our current situation. Thousands of banks were closing then, now we only have couple of hundred, if that many. This being the case, is it really a case of the gold standard?

Google "The Crash Course" Yes, we need money to have value once again. In 1971 Nixon took us off completely from the Gold standard. Going back to a gold std. is not the only thing we need to do but it's part of it. We also need to abolish the Federal Reserve & the IRS - both unconstitutional. Yes, the reason for the depression was the creation of the money manipulators we call the Fed today and it's when we started to go off a gold std. The European banks started to buy all gold & silver, too.
