I've played both. I rather take a big hit on the upper body with pads on, than being hit on the ankle by a streched leg in a soccer match. But maybe thats just me.

When you have played both you'll find out that it two completly different sports with different physical demands.

If you look at Portuguise or Italian soccer you will get the impression that they are lying down all the time, but that can't be compared to the way soccer is played in England or northern europe.
