@sortedevaras Go to DBZ for those kind of fights. The logic of this series dictates that the fights end quick. These guys use killing techniques. Every move is meant to either incapacitate a person or kill them. There are no long battles due to the style of fighting they use. The only exceptions are in HnK 2 when Ken faces Han and Kaioh. Even then, the actual fighting is short, but that's what makes this show great. Anytime a person gets hit, they could die. Makes all fights really intense.

Shin was the equal of Rei in terms of ability and the fight should have reflected that by having Shin at least give Ken a slight challenge.

@sortedevaras Calm down dude, I think you misunderstood me. All of those fights that you mentioned lasted only 1 episode or had about the equivalent of the action spread out. Then again, in the manga I believe this fight doesn't last that long either. Jagi's fight was mostly talk. In terms of action, it was probably the equivalent of this fight. You can't compare Shin w/Amiba or Jagi. Nanto fights should never be as long as Hokuto fights otherwise hokuto would be an inferior style.

Re-read the manga. A point is made that they were rivals as much as they were also friends. They weren't chummy in the sense that they hung out with each other every day and told each other jokes and giggled, etc etc but they were friends.

The whole point behind the King story arc was that Kenshiro was betrayed by his own friend, left to die in the wasteland and to top it off, his girlfriend was taken away. These things fueled Kenshiro's desire to get revenge on Shin.
